80th birthday celebration at Chinese restaurant in Toronto

Thank you everyone for your suggestions! We will look into each of the mentioned restaurants.

80th birthday celebration at Chinese restaurant in Toronto

We will be celebrating our father's 80th birthday this summer. We are looking for a private room at a Chinese restaurant for 15 adults and 4 children, ages 2 to 10. Our main concern is quality food and friendly service. Location and price is not a factor.

I was told to check out Grand Lake Chinese Cuisine. Your thoughts?

Need your suggestions! Many thanks.

New Year's Eve off The Strip?

We are looking for a restaurant off The Strip to celebrate New Year's Eve. My husband and I are "new locals". A couple of friends from out of town will be joining us. Restaurants on The Strip are charging $200-$300 for their late seating which is a huge turn off, and not to mention the chaos that will result from the Strip closing to all but pedestrian traffic.

Chinese bakery?

Are there any good Cantonese-style bakeries in Las Vegas? I've only come across a "bake stand" in an Asian supermarket with a small selection of goods. Help..... thanks!

In Vegas from Sunday night thru Monday - where do you locals go?

Dim sum is great at Ping Pang Pong.

Pecan and Sweet Potato Bread

It is SO SO delicious! I didn't have any pecans so used walnuts instead. Mine isn't as dense looking as in the picture. It's full of flavor and moist. I'll be definitely making it again!

Singapore-style Laksa downtown Toronto?

Thanks for all your input. MunchieHK..... thanks for the recipe! Can't wait to give it a try.

Singapore-style Laksa downtown Toronto?

Thanks munchieHK. What a shame! I'm dying for some good laksa. I bought a laksa mix from an Asian grocery store to make it and it was terrible. How do you make yours..... from scratch?

Looking for Quebec cheese

Thanks for all your input! Look forward to my hunt for good Quebec cheeses.

Looking for Quebec cheese

I'll be in Montreal for a couple of days and will be staying in the International district. I would love to buy some local cheese to take back home with me. I love the stinky stuff. Can you recommend some cheeses and where to buy it. Thanks!

Tofu in packages (not water packed)

You need to buy 'firm' tofu. This is available at Asian grocery stores and health food stores. Whole Foods also sells it.

You probably won't want to eat it as is as it is tasteless although it is perfectly safe to eat. You'll need to marinate it and then grill it (on a BBQ if you can).

Critique Seattle-hound's Choices for Montreal Food Bender

I'm like frygirl and will be in Montreal for a short visit. I have the same criteria so your replies are really great. I want to ask, what do fellow Chowhounds think about the restaurant Garde Manger? It's number one on my list as I love the owner's show Chuck's Day Off on FoodNetwork. Is the restaurant suitable for a female solo diner?

Bier Market on King W

Nope, just looked at the website again. Bier Markt also has a restaurant on King W. I think I'll cross it off my list after reading TorontoJo's reply. Thanks....

Bier Market on King W

We're thinking of going to Bier Market on King W for either lunch or dinner. The menu on their website looks okay. Is the food any good?
