Hello and Happy 4th of July to everyone!!! I am supposed to meet freinds for dinner at Giorgio's on Pine... I have never been to this restaurant nor have I heard much about it... any thoughts from people who have been there? Much appreciated.

Restaurants that have never changed

Friday Saturday Sunday... simply timeless... has not changed since it opened its doors 36 years ago! Great cozy neighborhood spot!

Pick our spot!

Ok fellow chow's... a special challenge... tonight my father and I are going to the movies and then out to dinner (a little father & son bonding)... We are trying to decide between two of Jose Garces' restaurants... Tinto or Amada???... We have been to both spots many times, and with the decision left up to me, I am turning to you for help... We love both places equally and upon perusing both menus for any notable changes, I still cannot decide between the two. So here it is: Tinto v. Amada. The Garces spot with the most votes will be where we dine/bond and/or kill each other. Thanks for your help and recommendations!
Happy New Year!!!

Monday Birthday: Looking for Great Italian Food

I second the recommendation for Radicchio Cafe... amazing food, especially the pastas and whole fish dishes- some of the best the city has to offer... Service is also very good and they will make your birthday celebration even more special. Happy Birthday and enjoy!

If you are willing to come into the city... look no further than Dmitri's at 3rd & Catherine Sts. for the best octopus in the city hands down... full plate of amazing grilled octopus, splash of red wine vinegar, olive oil, and lemon... gooooood eats!

Center City Rehearsal Dinner Recommendations?

I had my rehearsal dinner at Estia- an amazing Greek restaurant in Center City... beautiful atmosphere featuring authentic, fresh, traditional Greek food (great salads and spreads, fresh fish sold by the pound, amazing lamb chops)... My family is full of foodies and they all loved it... we had a great spread of appetizers (Greek spreads, zucchini and eggplant chips, etc.) during the cocktail hour to hold everyone over until the main dinner... you get a private cocktail lounge downstairs and a private dining room for your party... They provide you with 3 menu options and you can add or substitute to the menu if it does not satisfy your tastes. The event coordinator was amazing and waked us through everything... the staff could not have been more hospitable during the dinner... you can check them out on their website estiarestaurant.com... trust me you will not regret it! If you are looking for a comparison being that you are from New York, Estia is very similar to Avra in midtown Manhattan... good luck and congrats!

Help pick my birthday dinner... please.

Well... I am turning 31 in two weeks and my family wants to take me out to a birthday dinner... and of course, I am left to choose, which normally is not a problem... I love to decide where to go... I have eaten pretty much everywhere in the city, however in the interest of keeing things a bit more interesting I am asking you- fellow chowhounds and loyal food lovers to pick the destination for my birthday celebration... there will be 6 people total on a Saturdayor Sunday evening in June and there is no preference of BYO v. non-BYO.
The nominees are (in no particular order):

Amada
Tinto
Chifa
Estia
Dmitri's
Radicchio

Let the voting begin... thanks for the help! Cheers!

Where will you go back again (and again)?

Have to agree with Dmitri's- a true neighborhood bistro that never disappoints... I go there all the time and each time it is a memorable experience... I would also add Tinto, Raddichio, and Southwark to the list.

recs for eating at the bar in center city

Southwark at 4th & Bainbridge... exactly what you are looking for... beautiful bar to enjoy exceptional local cuisine with some of the friendliest and talented bartenders in the city... they are known for their amazing drinks (order a sazerac or classic martini) or choose one of their wonderful wines from their wine list. The food often gets overlooked but it truly is exceptional... a true hidden gem in the city. Enjoy!

Pls share your absolute favorite casual but delicious Philly rest in the historic district. Thanks! We're only there for one night but want a great meal.

Dmitri's on 3rd & Catherine Sts. Just the place you are looking for... it is BYOB so be sure to pick up a bottle of wine before you go.

my new favorite thing - TINY restaurants

Dmitri's on 3rd & Catherine... my favorite tiny BYOB in the city. I also enjoy Little Fish much for the same reason I adore Dmitri's. Tiny, intimate (in its own way- an extension of home), fresh light food that is always spot on! I also enjoy Mercato, Radicchio and Bistro Juliana...

Your favorite restaurant...

Dmitri's on 3rd & Catherine for simple, fresh food... it is consistently one of the finest experiences you will have at a local corner "bistro" byob... yes it is cramped and yes it can be loud but that is part of its charm... and the food just adds to the overall experience.
On the finer side of things, Vetri or Tinto are in a word fantastic... mind-blowing in fact... true gems.

Rehersal Dinner

I just had my rehearsal dinner at Estia and it was absolutely fantastic... they provided a beautiful room to accommodate our party of 45 and the food, the service, and the atmosphere were all equally amazing!!! Restaurant is beautiful and the staff really takes care of your every need... they even provide a cocktail hour before the actual dinner, with various apps. and spreads to hold the crowd over until you are ready to sit for dinner... I highly recommend Estia, it was perfect! Congrats and good luck!

Bistro Juliana

. Dined at Bistro Juliana last evening with my lady and I must say that this new Italian BYOB located in is absolutely amazing... now I know what most of you are thinking- another Italian BYO in Philly- ho-hum... how special could it be?!?! Well, trust my friends this is a welcomed addition to the already overcrowded market. The owners of Radicchio Cafe have opened this tiny gem right in the heart of Port Richmond and it reminds somewhat of when Radicchio first opened... tiny corner, abandoned parking lot adjacent to the restaurant in the shadows of I-95... and the menu has its similarities, but with updated additions that immediately whisk you away to the Amalfi coast. To start, my companion and I shared the grilled octopus, served in a small dish with ceci beans, celery, carrot, red onions, splashed with lemon and olive oil... in a word it was delightful... an updated version of the classic at Radicchio... the second shared dish was brought to the table by the owner for us to simply try... the sautéed calamari, tossed with escarole, hot pepper, and red onion... a squeeze of lemon and away we go... it was to die for... both appetizers were amazing and the portion size was perfect.
My mouth was still watering as our entrees arrived... My fiancé had the orchiette pasta (whole wheat) with shrimp and spinach in a white wine lemon sauce while I had the whole fish- striped bass, lemon, olive oil, filleted table side with a side of escarole... my fiancé put her fork down and declared that it was one of the best pasta dishes she has put in her mouth in this city! The striped bass was so moist and flavorful; I did not want the meal to end...
The menu is full of many delicious options, I wish I could list the whole menu for you because everything looked and sounded very good... All I can say is trust me- ignore the Applebee’s and Burger King two blocks ahead of it, and try Bistro Juliana... a true local neighborhood gem amongst giants... from the pasta, to fish (salmon and the Dover sole!), and meat (filet and veal) and nothing is priced over $20! The bread is even good here which is my only major complaint about Radicchio... try it and you will not be disappointed-
Bistro Juliana... 2723 E. Cumberland Avenue in Port Richmond.

Looking for Philly BYOB Where 2 Can Eat for $70 or less

I second the recommendaton for Dmitri's on 3rd and Catherine Sts. for amazingly fresh and superbly good food at low prices... My fiance and I are on a tight budget but go their at least once a week and pay no more than $60 (including tip) and we order PLENTY of food! An added bonus is that it is a BYO so bring a bottle of your favorite wine and enjoy! You will find it hard to resist not to go back every week!! Fresh fish, great veggie options, and pasta, too! Try it and I assure you, it will become addicting... Enjoy!

Radicchio, Branzino, Casta Diva, or La Viola??

Survivor Chowhound style... I am trying to decide between the four of these fabulous Italian BYOs for dinner tonight... My first choice initially is Radicchio, but I would love feedback... not concerned with reservations vs. no reservations, with waiting for a table, noise, etc., etc... just want to bring a great bottle of wine and enjoy good italian food... both myself and my date love fresh fish (all fish), light pastas, simple salads... any and all advice is much appreciated!

Challenge: Bridal Shower in the City for 50!

I know it might seem impossible but my sister was hoping to have a bridal shower at a spot in the city (Philly, for those readers in the suburbs and beyond) that could accomodate at least 50 people... nothing over the top, juts a nice place with good food and enough room for a group of gals to get together and have a good time... please help! Thanks for any insight!

Tinto or Amada???... please help

I am trying to decide between either of these two culinary gems... I have dined at Amada and absolutely love it... so does my fiance... and we have not been there in quite awhile. We both do not eat meat, but love all types of seafood, cheeses, and veggies... interested in trying Tinto, but worried we will left unsatisfied, especially considering the price... any suggestions or opinions are very much appreciated.

Anyone looking for Bobbi's Hummus?

Also available at Whole Foods Markets... in a word, this hummus is addicitive, bordering on seductive... just be careful of the garlic hummus... it stays with for days!

Amazing Fried Calamari and Creme Brulee?

Dmitri's on 3rd & Catherine Sts.... end your search now... look no further for the absolute best fried calamari in the city... it is so good my mouth is watering just writing about it at this moment... it is lightly breaded, extremely tender, and fried to perfection... for dessert theu serve a creamy, caramelly custard flan, not quite creme brulee (but it is good), and the fried calamari will sure make up for it... trust me... my girlfriend (soon to be fiance... shhhh!) makes me go every weekend just to get it! So grab a bottle of your favorite wine (or beer) for Dmit's is a BYOB and enjoy the best fried calamari you have ever tasted! Mangia!
