Sunday lunch - driving through Charlotte, NC - DC Hound needs help

Check restaurants in NoDa (North Davidson Street). Crepe Cellar might be a good option. Lots of options up there and close to 85. Amelie's for dessert!

Musashi Japanese Restaurant in Charlotte

Thanks for the heads up. Admittedly, I am not a huge sushi fan but I've been happy with the sushi at Yama in Southpark. I really want to try the nabeyaki udon soup at Musashi though. I'll let you know.

Musashi Japanese Restaurant in Charlotte

It's funny that you bumped this thread just a few weeks ago and I missed it. A few years back, I posted looking for a good spot in Charlotte for Nabeyaki Udon, something I used to order all the time in NYC, and crave occasionally. I was just told about this place by a friend. Have you been? I will try to go soon and will let you know what we think.

Leftover Ham - Need an app/dip/snack

So I find myself with quite a lot of leftover ham in my freezer. It's a Smithfield smoked spiral ham that came with some sort of glaze that I threw out. I took almost all of the ham off the bone and divided it into three large zip lock bags and saved the bone. Now I have several holiday parties that I've been asked to bring dishes to and I'd love to use up some of this ham. I would love your idea for dips or anything else that comes to mind. TIA!

Long Gone But Not Forgotten! Manhattan Memories

That made me think of the Red Tulip on East 75th. It was a mediocre Hungarian restaurant but it was MY mediocre Hungarian restaurant.

Bourdain in Thailand

If I was bothered by it, I'd never watch 90% of his shows. The chances of me actually getting to these places and trying the food is remote. But I enjoy learning about them.

Bourdain in Thailand

I loved it! favorite scene was when they were listening to the guy doing the really weird karioke and AB said, "Now that's gonna be stuck in my head all day".

Don't know if I could have managed the raw blood soup, but pretty much everything else looked terrific.

Downtown Charlotte for a Large Group - Your Recs?

Pretty sure your wedding weekend will coincide with Speed Street festivies.

Plan accordingly.

I wonder why his doctor would tell him to avoid chocolate.

Places in Charlotte where you order at the counter

Brooklyn South Pizza comes to mind. I kind of hate it.

OJ & Guinness?

I first had Guiness in Ireland. It's very common for women to drink it with a shot of Cointreau in it, so similar taste combination.

Sbarro get's ready for bankruptcy reorganization.............

I have a soft spot in my heart for Sbarro because I used to eat there all the time when I was young, broke and working at the World Trade Center.

Charlotte's Cowfish coming to Raleigh

The last time we were there, he was "lurking". It was still kind of early so he didn't come in. Just kept walking by looking to see who was at the bar.

It's certainly not for serious sushi but it has its place. I've never had a bad dish, service is great and there's something for everyone.

Your own sauce creation?

Soup in the Charlotte Area

La Unica on South Blvd. does not have this soup on their menu. I would love to try it.

I know I sound like a broken record, but the pho with brisket and rare steak at Pho Hoa is my favorite soup in Charlotte. The Tom Yum with chicken at Malaya Kitchen is pretty tasty too. Of course it's a salt bomb but there are a ton of fresh vegetables in it too.

The Mis-use of "Miss"

Here in Charlotte, all women are called Miss. Miss First Name if you know them really well and Miss Last Name if they're a teacher or the mother of a friend. My daughter started doing it years ago and I got used to it but as a former NYer, I find it strange. In a good way.

Odd/Nontraditional Sushi Rolls?

Smarty pants - I put a link to it upthread a few days ago but I don't think many people read it. I cracked up when I saw the Nature Boy roll. It definitely wasn't on the menu a while back. Guess he's found a new haunt now that Zink is gone. Ric's roll sounds great.
