Anyone use the Marin Sun Farms meat CSA?
Real Food Bay Area CSA offers all sorts of things including eggs, dairy, meat. www.realfoodbayarea.com
high-end chocolate bars: Oialla, Amano, and Felchlin
Not local, but The Meadow has a great inventory of chocolate bars: www.atthemeadow.com/shop
ISO Lamb Bacon
Marin Sun Farms lists it on their site. Not sure if the retail locations carry it but you could call.
Anyone use the Marin Sun Farms meat CSA?
Ah okay. I order a custom share that includes both roast and premium cuts, poultry and eggs. The packaging is interesting. What you get is different every time and so is the sizing of what you get. So, for instance, this month, for poultry, I received one 5.5# chicken, one 3.5 # turkey breast, a turkey leg, a package of 6 chicken wings, on half chicken and 3 stewing hens (which I special ordered). Sometimes it's all whole chickens, sometimes it's breasts and legs/thighs. So, a mix. Same for the meat. Sometimes I get all beef, sometimes I get other animals like lamb (I received two frenched racks this time) or goat (received 4 goat chops) of various sizes. I haven't asked for specific cuts so if that's of concern, I'm sure you could correspond with them in advance. I think it's kind of fun to figure out what to do with whatever I get.
Happy to answer any other questions. Quality is good though there are other products I also like. For instance, I buy all sorts of meat from Pampero at the Mountain View FM on Sundays. They have longhorn beef but also have assorted cuts of lamb, pork, and chickens -- oh and milk straight from the cow. I like their meat a lot, but they haven't organized a CSA drop program yet. Value is good for the quality, but it's not cheap of course. Depends on how much you buy and it's a minimum of a 6-month commitment by EFT.
Let me know what you decide to do. I've learned an incredible amount by necessity to cook some of the cuts I receive. I am a master of stocks now and they enhance everything I cook. I don't know how I lived without them!
Oh, and customer service is good. They respond to emails and calls promptly.

I use the MSF meat CSA and love it. What are your concerns exactly?
SPoT BAGEL
As an aside, I read that same article when it came out, called Bagel Hole and the guys there were more than happy to ship out a couple of dozen bagels every so often. They were exactly the bagels I had been hoping for -- dense, the right size (i.e., not super sized), made the right way (boiled then baked). The flavor shined because there was a little sweetness and a little salt flavor but not too much of either, just not flat like the bagels I've had in Vancouver.
best pancakes
Best pancakes are at Chloe's Cafe. Great every time. Small place and not close at all to where you're staying. It's just the perfect stack of pancakes.
Where to buy veal bones?
I live in Los Gatos and have asked at a few places. A couple of ways to get the bones are to buy veal shanks (Whole Foods has these regularly) or a veal breast (which has a lot of bone mass in it -- at Lunardi's). It's more expensive to do it this way, but having the meat in the first reduction adds to the richness of the final stock.
Cosentinos Market, San Jose- Closing!
I completely agree. I just came from there and the shelves are getting more bare. They're basically not ordering anything else and will close sooner than Feb 8th depending on how much inventory they have left.
Cosentinos Market, San Jose- Closing!
Best grocery store in the area. This is really unfortunate. Now we're left with Whole Foods....
NYC to SF - Must trys?
I was just going to say the same thing about LPJ. I loved that place!
Best tasting menu lunch in the peninsula?
BB - I concede on all points. Given the dearth of good options, I just remember that the last time I was there, we sat along the windows and it was a pleasant experience. Something that OP was likely looking for. Otherwise, you are right.
Best tasting menu lunch in the peninsula?
Another fun place, though not with a tasting menu, is Cascal in Mountain View. Not stellar food, but a fun theme and great energy.

Seeking dining recs in SF
Fillmore and Buchanan are parallel. I believe Les Amis is on Union at Buchanan, the old Prego location.
Need fresh Garbanzo beans in the Los Gatos/San Jose area
They also had them at the Mountain View farmers market last week and today. Farm is called Wholeness Farms.
Fresh fruit and vegetables 40th - 55th and Fifth (or around there)
Thank you, that's perfect.
Fresh fruit and vegetables 40th - 55th and Fifth (or around there)
I'll be in Manhattan for some business meetings next week Monday - Wednesday (4/26-4/28). I'm staying at the Marriott Courtyard on 40th and 5th and my meetings are at 55th and Madison. I'm hoping to buy some fresh fruit (like grapes, oranges, strawberries, that kind of thing) to snack on during the days. I see that there's a Whole Foods in Columnbus Circle, how long would it take me to walk there from my hotel?
Many thanks for any suggestions.
CSA recommendation and questions
I tried Eating with the Seasons and thought it was no better than shopping at Safeway. Especially compared to Two Small Farms. Two Small Farms delivfers impeccable produce - amazingly fresh, generous in quantity and the families who manage it are nicer than any of the people with whom I interacted at EWTS. I also get a share from Full Circle Farms in Sunnyvale. Their produce is also amazing, but the quantities are really small for the money, so the value isn't as apparent. The other issue with them is that they don't deliver, so if you don't live nearby, it's a haul to get there -- and they only allow pick-up during the evening rush hours (4-7).
Tigelleria Ristorante in Campbell
There was a chowdown there last year: Here's the link to the review: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/478444
Frascati or Boulevard?
Frascati is the perfect choice! Only downside is the partking, there isn't any in the area. Take public transportation or walk. The tables are a bit close together, but you almost don't notice because the atmosphere is really upbeat -- not in that noisy way, but in a professional, but casual neighborhood restaurant way. At least a few tables are regulars, or at least that's been my experience.
How can I find out if the Union Square greenmarket is open today Labor Day?
Hi everyone
I'm visting the city and would like to visit the Union Square greenmarket, which I undertand is usually open on Mondays. But, would it be open today? I've visited the greenmarket web site, but can't find whether it's open or not.
Thanks
Where to eat on Labor Day? Everything is closed!
Hi
I'm visiting the city this weekend and just walking around, seems like so many restaurants are closed! I'm at the Bryant Park Hotel on 40th and 5th, need a place for breakfast and lunch -- healthy fare - fruits and salads. Anything?
Fresh fruits and vegetables near Bryant Park
Thanks, everyone. So, darn it all, I'm flying in on Saturday and probably won't get to the Union Square greenmarket. Looks like there are a few open on Sunday....your opinion of the best?
Fresh fruits and vegetables near Bryant Park
Hi everyone
I'm visiting the City over Labor Day weekend for the US Open, staying at the Bryant Park Hotel. Can you tell me where I could buy fresh fruits and veggies in walking distance to munch on during my stay. Also, if there are any farmers markets around on the weekend, I'd love to hear about those too.
Thanks so much
Visiting from SF, need lunch on Labor Day Sunday
Hi all
I've tried to search the board and Menu Pages for ideas for Sunday lunch on Sept 6th. We're staying at the Bryant Park Hotel in Murray Hill, going to Serge for dinner on Sat nite. Need lunch (not breakfast, not brunch) ideas for the area. Not completely tied to the immediate area, but will be 8 people (4 in their 70's, healthy, but you know, not up for a hike, per se -- taxi ok) Thinking Murray Hill, Gramercy or surrounding.
For food: salads, lots of veggies, fish, light fare. Probably not too ethnic. Price not so much of a consideration, but probably won't go to Eleven Madison Park range.....
Thanks
Stacy
Best CSA vegetable/fruit home delivery?
I joined Two Small Farms a couple of months ago too and the quality of the produce is very high. I agree with armaburrito, those strawberries were incredible. Every single one fragrant and delicious. I am very happy with everything I've received and love having the opportunity to try new things I've never even heard of. Additionally, I look forward to the weekly newsletter and all the recipes.
South bay restaurant gift
My favorite restaurant around there is Sent Sovi in Saratoga.

Saratoga/Los Gatos/Cupertino weekend lunch/brunch suggestions?
Manresa is very worth it. I didn't like Dio Deka at all. Nice room, but the food and the service were below par.
Kitsho in Cupertino is the best sushi around in the traditional style. Get the omakaze. However, Kamakura on Santa Cruz is fine for a week night sushi meal.
The Grill in Los Gatos (on University) has a great California-style menu. Light and beautiful plates. Not a destination, but relaxing and pleasant with good food and service.
Afghan House in Santa Clara is great Afghan. Always busy. Consistent. Inexpensive. White tablecloth but not stuffy.
Go to Sweet Peas Cafe on Santa Cruz for Saturday lunch. Really pleasant cafe where you can eat on the patio. And the food is straight-forward - crepes, salads, breakfast, sandwiches. Menu is easy to navigate and its just a feel good place.
SF French Quarter on Saturday night?
Anjou is another one that seems to employ all French waiters and has a faithful ex-pat following.
