Sparkling Shiraz

I'm planning to go by price, since I only know what I've read in an article in Saveur Magazine. They recommended Hardy's, Majella, Rumball, Trevor Jones, Deakin Estate and Seppelt Harpers Range (top). I don't know if I can get any of these. I've seen (online) prices ranging from $20 to $125.

Sparkling Shiraz

Thanks. I will try Bristol Farms - just up the street. Glendale is a little out of the way. I may hold it out as a last resort.

Sparkling Shiraz

Thanks. I was at Wally's today. They told me that it wasn't popular enough for them to stock it. I am in West LA so I will try Du Vin and the Wine House.

Anyone know where I can buy Sparkling Shiraz? I've tried World Market, BevMo and Wally's.

Westside Burgers-Counter, Hole in the Wall, Father's Office Tavern, What Else?

I like the burger at the Westside Tavern--cheese, sautéed onions, arugula and a slightly spicy aioli. It is always juicy and cooked perfectly.

West la Saturday night dinner

Thank you all for your recommendations. Unfortunately, I could not get a table for the most highly recommended spots. The 5:30/10:00 times were available, but I passed on those. We ended up at Jar. I had high expectations, but we all were disappointed. A lobster-tomato soup was so peppery that we couldn't eat it. The deviled eggs (I couldn't find the crab) were vinegary. Scallops were rubbery and were served with a sauce (?) of just sliced capers. The pot roast was OK - it was pot roast. French fries and mashed potatoes were fine too. I would not return nor would I recommend the restaurant to others.

On the bright side, I now have a list of restaurants from you all that I can try another time.

West la Saturday night dinner

Not really a party just 4 of us looking for a good dinner. Not looking for the cheapest meal, but not the highest priced eats either.

I'm new to West La (live not far from the Mormon Temple), and would like a recommendation for a Saturday night birthday dinner. Thank you for your help.

Making Sausage. Need Source for Organic Pork Fat Back in LA

I would guess that it isn't. Is the pork organic at any of the meat markets mentioned.? I would love to get some. I think Whole Foods sells organic beef, but I don't know about pork. The last time someone told me about wonderful organic pork, he had raised the pig himself.

Making Sausage. Need Source for Organic Pork Fat Back in LA

I've found the pork fat at various Mexican markets. It's usually packaged and displayed with the meats. If it isn't there, ask for it. I've never had a problem. These markets also have large pork shoulder with plenty of fat for sausage. Most butchers will sell you casings. You usually have to buy a container, which will make a ton of sausage, and I mean that literally. These days, the price of casings can be pretty steep at upscale meat markets, so while you are picking up the fat ask about the casings.

Lunch in Hollywood?

What would you recommend for a nice lunch in the Hollywood area?

Suggestions for Lunch?

Oops. Sorry about that. I meant Santa Monica Blvd at Wilshire. I guess this would be considered Beverly Hills. I will be around Olympic Blvd near Beverly Hills High School and would like to stay in the general vicinity. I don't mind traveling a little in any direction, but would prefer not to go as far as downtown, Hollywood, Santa Monica, or Culver City. I hope this is clearer than my original message. Thanks.

Suggestions for Lunch?

I'm looking for a restaurant for a weekday lunch in the vicinity of Olympic near Wilshire. Any suggestions? I'm pretty flexible as to the type of food, and would like some place that isn't extremely expensive.

Osteria La Buca recommendations for Sat. night...corkage fee?

I was there last weekend. The addition was opened and jumping. I think the corkage fee was listed at $18.95, but I'm not positive.

The Acapulco on Sunset is closed. There is one on La Cienega (maybe north of Melrose).

Restaurant in Chalfont

Based on the recommendations here, the distance from the cemetery, the menu, and what I saw on the website, I think I am going to choose the Joseph Ambler.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions and help.

Restaurant in Chalfont

Thanks for the suggestions. You have made my life easier. I've checked out the websites for all the restaurants, and any of them would work. The prices are so reasonable compared to comparable places in LA. I don't think I want to do the State Store thing, since I don't have any idea what these people like to drink.

Can you tell me which of the three (Ambler Inn, Borghi's, Mama D's) is closest to the cemetery? I would like to keep the driving to a minimum, since many of the folks coming will have already driven a considerable distance.

Restaurant in Chalfont

I'm looking for something nice, but not too casual. This is for a luncheon after a memorial service at St. John Neumann Cemetery. While, I love Mexican, I don't think it would work for this group. Somplace that serves alcohol with a varied menu would be best - seafood, steak, chicken, etc.

I live in Los Angeles, but need to find a restaurant in Chalfont for about 15 to 20 people in September on a Friday for lunch.

Any suggestions?

where to buy pork fat in LA?

Try a Mexican market. When I made sausage, I use to buy sheets of pork fat at Max Foods in Montebello.
