Polish food in the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area?

Yeah, I know Hamtown alright. Polish Village is where I usually go if I want Polish. I was just at Bozek's today.

Any good Polish places in the area. Moving there soon and I don't know of any.

Tamales in the D?

I'll give another vote for Evie's. You can't beat the price, you get a dozen for about 7 bucks.
There is another Tamale place on Vernor, next to the Geodesic dome but I can't remember the name of the place.

Drive-ins with carhops?

Daly in Livonia, Mi. on Plymouth road. Was a small chain many years ago, but this is the last one. Good burger place.

Scrapple in the Detroit area?

I remember seeing had-written signs for the scrapple at the Southgate Joey's. But it's not on the printed menu. I patronize the Garden City Joey's regularly and they don't have it there.

where to find good breakfast, lunch near Hyatt Regency, Dearborn

If you are in Dearbon, you are in the greatest area for middle-eastern food in the United States. La Pita, Al-Amir, Cedarland, are all great (just to name three). La Pita is really close to the Hyatt and has great lunch specials. If you feel like Mexican, my favorite taqueria, Senor Lopez is only a few miles east on Michigan. Senor Lopez is the only place I've been to that serves Pibil (the dish that Johnny Depp kills people over in Once Upon A Time In Mexico).
A couple more miles east down Michigan and you will find Slow's, some of the best BBQ around.

Which is best for Anniversary Dinner(Italian)? [suburban Detroit]

Yeah, Antonio's is really good. It's not much for atmosphere, but it's not bad either. If you want traditional Italian-American food, Antonio's does it wonderfully.

The BEST places to eat in Detroit/suburban area

Some of my personal favorites.

Burger (slider)- Bate's in Livonia or Farmington. Perfect sliders.

Burger (bar)- Miller's in Dearborn, hands down.

Italian-Antonio's in Dearborn-Really good old-school Italian American food. Awesome marinara and meat sauce, homemade pasta, good pizza., Giulio's in Livonia- amazing chicken/veal picatta. Giovanni's in Detroit-home of the most amazing calamari I've ever had.

Coney-Lafayette. Period.

Pizza- Supino-Fantastic thin-crust artisan pizza. Try the Bismark with the egg on top!

Lebanese- Chef's Restaurant in Livonia. Everything here is always done perfectly and everything is fresh and/or juicy. I can't say the same for the popular Al-Amir.

Mexican (more authentic)- Senor Lopez in Detroit. The only Mexican restaurant in Detroit with Conchinitta Pibil. (that's the dish that Johnny Depp was killing people over in Once Upon a Time in Mexico).

Mexican (the greasy, cheese-covered, ground beef centric stuff)-Xocimilco's in Detroit. This holds a special place in my heart as it was where I always went at a kid.

Subs- Get an Italian sub from Alcamo's Italian Market in Dearborn. Get the extra meat one, it at LEAST a meal in itself and is almost perfect.

Breakfast-Evie's Tamales in Detroit. YAY! TAMALES FOR BREAKFAST! And plenty of other Mexican breakfast classics and breakfast burritos. For a more American breakfast, Louie's on Mack in Detroit. Diner food done very well.

Thai-I like Bangkok 96 in Dearborn Heights. I don't do a lot of Thai so I can't really say a lot about it other than I like it.

Cuban-Vincente's in Detroit. There isn't a lot of competition in Detroit for Cuban. But I like this place a lot.

Best Kielbasa in Detroit?

Lots of good places have been mentioned. I love the Dearborn Sausage retail store, so much good stuff there. Their potato sausage is great. Another Polish market that's pretty good and makes their own Kielbasa is on Plymouth road between Inkster and Middlebelt (closer to Middlebelt, eastbound side of Plymouth). Small place, but good.

SE Michigan - The Current State of Pizza

I finally had Supino a month or so ago. I ordered The Bismark. I had picked it because I like prosciutto and asked if I could get it without the egg. The awesome person behind the counter convinced me that I was wrong. And I was. The Bismark rocked! Looking forward to trying the Smoky.

ammoglio . . . and Detroit?

I've never had this at a restaurant. I'm a firefighter and ammoglio was introduced to me at work. Every time I've had it it was served with thin steak, breaded and fried like chicken parm. The cold ammoglio is then spooned over the hot steak. I've made it myself with a can of petite cut diced tomatoes, chopped garlic, good olive oil, and herbs.

The Flicker stuff was uploaded in 2006. There has been a lot added to the place since.

Ha. I guess that was a pretty vague post. The store is on located on Plymouth road. The first house on the side street is Silvio's. When you walk out the back door of the store you go through a courtyard covered in grape vines and filled with sculptures. You then cross an alley and can go into the big back yard of his house witch has many more statues that he made. Some of the ones in the back yard are at least 10 feet tall. The sculptures are made out of concrete with bits of decorative rocks and tile and found objects (toy cars, trinkets, etc.) Silvio will give you a grand tour if you stop by. He is a pretty eccentric guy. Back when he sold pizza I would go there with friends and get pizza and beer and wine and hang out at tables in the courtyard. There is also a pretty good chance that Silvio will sing for you.
Here is a flickr set someone made.

A thread to celebrate ex-pizza maker/artist/curator/philosopher/historian Silvio, from Redford, Mi.
This guy used to make the best pizza. Too bad "THE MAN" shut him down. I still make it a point to go to his place and visit him/buy a bottle of wine to keep him in operation on occasion. Point is, it is an amazing place. It's on some Willy Wonka level shit. If you don't already know, check it out.

I'm on the Dearborn Heights/Livonia/Westland meeting point. Right where they all mash together.

Taqueria Alameda - Westland, MI

This place sounds great! My favorite Taqueria is Senor Lopez, but this place is a good deal closer to my place. It sounds like they have a pretty extensive menu. I'll have to check it out.

Best Cheese Steak (Philly) in Michigan

It's not on the menu. The downriver one has it on a homemade sign, so it might not be at all locations. If the downriver one still has it, I'm sure you could ask the Garden City store to get some for you.

Best Cheese Steak (Philly) in Michigan

Gabriel's is really good, but Joey's has more to offer. A Joey's recently opened up a couple miles from me and It's pretty great. Until now I had about a 30 minute drive to get to the downriver one so I'd only been a couple times. Not only are the Cheesesteaks good, but they have a really wide selection of other items. They also sell Philly staples like Frank's Soda and Tastycakes. The one downriver even has scrapple. There are a lot of places I can order pizza and subs from around here, but Joeys has prosciutto, sopprasetta, sharp provolone, capicolla and more. Add the fact that you can order delivery online!

Best current Detroit-area Lebanese?

Cedarland was the first place I ever had middle eastern food at. This was back when they were in their old location, '93 or so. Good food plus a drive-through.
One place I think is especially good is Chef's Restaurant on Plymouth Rd. in Livonia. They do a really great job and everything I've had from there has been excellent.

Alcamo's is pretty good. Maybe not great, but it's the best in the Dearborn area.
I have been meaning to check out Honeybee, I hear it's great.
