FSU v. Oklahoma State (dinner recommendations)

Let me start by saying I used to live in Plano many moons ago (late 80s). My wife and I - plus some friends will be out there visiting from Florida late next month. We want to hit the BEST Mexican place Dallas has to offer. I'd love some suggestions. We are staying with a friend who just moved there from Los Angeles.

Thank you all very much for taking the time - I will pour through these suggestions and make pick a few places. Has anyone tried Ngam for Thai?

Thanks - just looked at their website and it looks really cool. We have a place locally called the Mandarin Hide and they do tons of those prohibition style cocktails with the 20s-30s décor, etc.... One of the best bars here. Our friend said the Dead Rabbit is a stone's throw from her place.

3 nights in the Financial District

Hello -

My wife and I (both early 40s) are visiting one of her single friends who lives at Exchange Place in the Financial District. She has lived there for a short period of time and has a couple of hangouts.

My wife and I will have free time on two weekdays during work hours to just mess around. We are just looking for a few, "must do", "must eat" type things/places in or around that area. We are from Florida and have been to NYC several times but rarely spent any time in the Financial District.

So - we'd like a couple of lunch suggestion and maybe a couple of pubs/bars to see in the area. We are looking for casual fare - if there is an iconic burger joint or something that would be cool. But any suggestions are welcomed.

We are doing Adrienne's Pizza for dinner one night and Peter Lugers. Those are the only, "set" things that our friend set up.

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Cheers!

We definitely plan to see the 9/11 Memorial.

Florida State fans staying in Redondo beach

Ha - nice. My wife keeps telling me that too - but there isn't much left to stop FSU this year.

Feeling pretty confident my Noles are going to be in Pasadena come January 6th - so starting to plan my visit. Just my wife and I and two other friends are making the trip - no children for this trip. We plan to get out there Friday, January 3rd and spend the weekend doing things along the beach and into other areas of LA.

Demographics: we are all late 30s/early 40s - adventurous about food but don't want to miss the classic "must do's" that your city undoubtedly has too many to list. Money is not a problem - but we aren't there to get too fancy (we are traveling as football fans, etc....).

It would we great to get some local input on dining/drinking ideas. Also - we are not real interested in seeing the iconic touristy things or celebrity sightings. Just real places where the locals go or simply places that are can't miss when you travel that far from home.

Thanks for any suggestions - and we are excited to come to your city.

Cheers.

I am with you on the craft beer thing (I have been homebrewing for about 15 years off and on). We love Cigar City - you can stop in their tasting room and get growlers of limited edition brews that they never release commercially. It is great. We will all definitely indulge in the local beer scene.

I spent four days in Denver in May and was thoroughly impressed with their local breweries.

LH - thank you sir! We have plenty of seafood and Cuban food as I know you know! Seriously though I really appreciate the suggestions and I will definitely steer the group in these directions.

Thanks again,

Hey Texans - I used to live in Plano (late 1980's) but am coming from Florida to visit this weekend. I am coming with a group of about 15 guys for the Bucs v. Cowboys game. We are all staying at the Marriott City Center.

Just need some good recommendations on good local restaurant options. Give me the new "can't miss" spots in your town. I remember the Blue Goose used to be good for Tex-Mex (I was in my late teens at the time). Nothing too fancy - just good foodie joints.

Also - I am an FSU grad and want to watch the Clemson at FSU game Saturday at 8. Any good sports bar suggestions?

Hey - thanks in advance and I can't wait to visit your awesome state again.

Cheers!

Denver, The Big List

Wow - great job! I too have been researching for a 4 day trip to Denver next month. I would only add to Best in Area Rioja and Euclid Hall - from what I have read. Euclid Hall is a more casual fare sister restaurant to Rioja - a lot of raves for those two.

Also - Biker Jim's Hot Dogs for exotic hot dogs.

2 nights at Hollywood Beach

Thanks Phil! I had heard about Le Tub from some friends plus all the travel channel publicity so that was definitely on the list - plus it's about a mile from hotel so perfect. I will definitely try your other suggestions - so Tarks is just down the beach - Dania?

2 Nights in Palm Beach

Two couples late 30s early 40s leaving the kids at home. Looking for good, casual beachfront seafood joint for day. Also good dinner spots that have great food yet accept people in shorts and a Tommy Bahama shirt. We are staying at the Breakers so anything near there would be nice, but we are willing to travel if there is a "must go" local treasure reasonably close.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

40th Birthday Celebration in Vegas!!!

Hey guys - just wanted to go straight to the "source" and get help in designing an itinerary for three nights in Vegas in November. I am going with my wife and about 15 friends - we are staying at The Bellagio (this will be mine and my wife's first time to Las Vegas). We are all from Florida. We plan to do one Michelin type of dinner (thinking either Guy Savoy or Robuchon) - need advice on which (money is no concern for this dinner).

Also - need some advice on other dining destinations and must do things aside from casinos. The group I am traveling with are all mid 30s to early 40s everyone likes to drink and have fun, but we are not really "club" type people.

I watched an episode of Man v. Food and Adam went to this little place off of the stip that looked like they had awesome crawfish. Anyone know the name of the place and opinion of it?

Hey - thanks in advance for all the anticipated help!!

Cheers!

Great Seafood in the Tampa Bay Area?

By the way - if you go to Old Salty Dog (he has two locations now) - go to the one on City Island - the original - great view.

Great Seafood in the Tampa Bay Area?

Joe - I agree with everyone on Middle Grounds - awesome. Cafe Ponte is one of my all time favorite places to eat - the mushroom bisque with black trumpet dust is amazing. Also - the Fois Gras "A" - superb. Thomas Keller took his family there when he was in town if that tells you anything. If you are in Sarasota - there is a VERY casual place on the water called the Old Salty Dog - it was featured on Man v. Food. Great view and a great place to drink beer and relax. Dockside Dave's is my favorite grouper sandwich - although the Carribean grilled grouper sandwich at Frency's Rockaway is great too. Have a great time!
