Downtown help?

Redbird is the one downtown restaurant that I've been and loved. Wanted something new to me. Thanks, though.

Downtown help?

In the mood to try something downtown mid-week. Probably save Orsa and Winston for that special occasion, though. Just want great food and service. I prefer to be able to have a conversation too. Any suggestions?

The Front Yard, anyone been?

This restaurant is in the Beverly Garland Hotel (used to be Warren's Blackboard) and next week I am giving it a try. Curious if anyone as gone and if so, what your thoughts are.

The Mori Omakase Challenge

Wonderful write up! However, now I feel even worse that I did after writing my issues with Mori sushi yesterday. In reading your extensive list of "goodies" in your first section, of all the items you were served. only one of those did we get. There isn't anything anyone can say that will make this okay. It actually sucks, in my mind. If Maru-san would hang a sign on his front door stating unless you've been here before, please don't expect to eat what my guests who've eaten here before eat.

Mori...not the same for everyone

Thanks so much for taking the time to educate me of the finer points of Mori. Not that I can't afford to dine here more often, I just don't want to "pay my dues" in order to get the most out of Mori Sushi. Too many sushi restaurant, perhaps not of the quality of Mori, but I can have a much better experience elsewhere.

Mori...not the same for everyone

Ahhh...you were there last night....I was with my hubs (2 guys) probably sitting next to you at the bar?

Anyways, lot's of passion regarding Mori and I get that. We do seem to go to Chiba, probably every 10 days or so, and yes I do feel special there. Guess I need to go to Mori more frequently, in order to expect the level of sushi and service I am paying for :) Who besides you from CH was there?

Mori...not the same for everyone

Not that the sushi wasn't enjoyable, because there were sushi's that were new to me and mostly very good. Just the over all experience left me wanting so much more for the of the hype and cost factor.

Mori...not the same for everyone

We've wanted to try Mori for the longest time. Hubs gave me some birthday certificates for Mori and last night was the night. Night begins with an unwelcome wait. Reservations made to sit in front of Maru-San at 7:30. We arrive promptly to find the sushi bar is filled. We were offered a table to sit and wait. Not the way to begin our night, for sure. Finally after around 15 minutes, we noticed Maru-san tell 4 guests at the bar, they would need to relocate to a table, as guests with reservations had arrived, us. We were sat in front of the "man" himself and off we go. We choose our Omakase and begin to sip on the sake we brought in tow, purchased at Wally's (also part of the birthday bling for hubs). I asked our server for some water, then asked her again and then asked the other server for water and finally the water arrives. Our meal begins and to summarize, the meal was fine, nothing more. I've had far better sushi and far better treatment else where. I think what bothers us the most, was others who seemly have eaten at Mori on other occasions, were being served quite different sushi than what we were served and they ordered the same Omakase as us. Maru-san was far more engaging with his "other" customers than us as well. Anyways, just my two cents (actually it cost $435 including the $20 corkage fee, out the door).

Sawtelle help

Just feel like parking on Sawtelle tonight and having dinner. Open to anything...cost or type doesn't really matter other than no sushi (All ready have my favorites). So help me decide on the best Sawtelle has to offer. Thanks!

Steak Question

To the two of you that have been kind enough to respond, thanks. I've been to LV many times and visited many of the steak restaurants...i.e. prime, carnevino, joe's, gordon ramsey, sw, and cut. I also have enjoyed taylors ranch....but if it's prime meat I should search, then prime it will be. I have a car, so travel doesn't matter, just want the best steak. Atmosphere isn't all that important, just a great meal....P.S. I know I am in the minority, but Carnevino was a huge rip off to me....

How many Maude attempts?

You know what they say, "the first time is always the best...lol" but for me, our first experience was the best, artichoke. We also enjoyed rhubarb, morels, truffles and parsnip.

Iv'e been lucky to have experienced Maude 5 times now. Each time a little different, but wonderful. I call when the line opens and within an hour and often less, I have gotten through.
