Lobster at The Palm in WeHo

A couple of weeks ago, our "steamed" lobster was great. Ask them to prepare it this way, much better!

A Croissant from The Bakery Formerly Known as "The Buttery"

The Buttery had without the doubt, the best chocolate chips cookies I have ever eaten. I miss them greatly, even to this day. If anyone remembers them, and knows where to get one that is even close, let me know.

Can't believe I am asking this question, but....

Being from California, I usually eat dinner around 7:30 or 8:00. What time is dinner typically eaten in Barcelona? Thanks.

Great sushi last night

No, we did not stay to eat. I am usually cool with being ignored, but this was taken to a new level. I knew if we stayed I would have hated every minute, so we left. I am sure the sushi would have been good, but there is more to an evening out than the food itself.

Great sushi last night

Our dinner for $228 was 2 people. I've been to Zo a couple of times. First time was great and then returned about a year later. We were completely ignored, so we got up and left. Ouch!

Great sushi last night

4/5 Stars...Holy cow! Had my first (and not last) experience last night. Sushi was heavenly. I have eaten at many many sushi bars in L.A., but this one would rank right at the top. Delicious, fresh and bountiful. Chef couldn't have been nicer. Didn't care in the least that the decor was minimal or the fact we were the only ones sitting at the bar. So you ask why only 4 stars, it's the price. Of course being omakase, one doesn't know the price. We just ate and enjoyed. Well, the cost was $228, before tip and without any alcohol. So would I go back, absolutely, just not as often as I want to.

Sushi help

Thanks Clyde. Some good ideas here. I've been to Zo, Kiriko and Kiyokawa. Not the others, though.

Seafood (Uni) help

I recently read somewhere on Chow about a retail/wholesale place, located in San Diego that sells fish, seafood, uni, etc. Seemed to me this was a fantastic place to buy, but now I can't remember what it's called. I think they mail order as well. Anyone help me?

Sushi help

Forgot about Asanebo. Good idea!

Sushi help

We've been to so many sushi bars and would love to know your favorites. We don't mind traveling, just want something great. Any suggestions?

Best Steakhouse in L.A?

Just went to Wolfgang's a couple nights ago. Great Porterhouse for two. Caesar salad was very nice, onion rings wonderful...I'd pass on the steak fries, too mushy for my taste.

Review

Funny, for me, I had the opposite experience. The "3" pizzas were all quite tasty. Our issue was with the rude and un-trained waitress. She greeted us by literally tossing the plates, napkins and silverware in the center of table, allowing us to pick up the mess and divide them all up. Our salads were ordered ahead of the pizza order, however they arrived in reverse order. A complaint to the hostess yielded a visit from the owner. He was very sorry about the mess and comped our meal. From that, might be worth another try.

Sherman Oaks Farmer's Market Debuts Tomorrow

I just returned from the "new" farmers market. I guess it will take some time to season, but for me, there was nothing to choose from. Not in any hurry to return.

Breakfast help

Staying at the Aria for 3 nights and can walk forever. Bouchon will likely be one breakfast, anything else I shouldn't miss?

Dinner with the folks

The goal here is to not take a cab. I was hoping on this night, to stay within the City Center area, so we can walk. Price not so much an issue.

Dinner with the folks

Hi hounds, looking for some help. Staying at the Aria at the end of the month for 3 nights and wanting some recs on Italian where I don't have to take a cab. One night will be Sage, one night Joe's (Caesar's) and one night to be determined. Thanks for the help.

Which donuts at Primo's are the ones to get?

My quick sushi Zo experience

Please don't get me wrong. We were so excited to go back to Zo, since it's been about 2 years since our last meal there. We've read such great things of late and were really looking forward. Called and made a reservation at the bar for 7:30. Arrived on time and the bar was full, except for 2 ends seats. Keizo (owner) gave us a very unwelcoming glance. We then asked the gal in front if those are the only 2 seats available. The thought of sitting up against the wall, not in front of Keizo really turned us off. She didn't seem to understand what I was asking. Another employee translated to her what we were asking and she explained those were the only 2 seats. We sat and really didn't feel pampered or welcomed in the least, so we got up and left. No one seemed to care. Ended up at Kiriko on Sawtelle for an omakase. Owner Ken-san was a delight. We had omakase and really enjoyed everything, albeit expensive at $152.00 for the two of us, sushi only. Live and learn.

Urasawa - Update

I was there in June and the price per person was $350.00. I believe there is a corkage fee of $50 per bottle. Go and enjoy!

Polo Lounge

Has anyone dined at the Polo Lounge recently? I am considering giving it a try. Thanks.

Need Inverness help

Off to Inverness for a 3 night stay. Any recs for dining would be very appreciated. Price does not matter, just want the best of the best. Also, lodging recs would be nice too. Thanks.

Stan's donuts

My oh my! Haven't been to Stan's in probably 30 years. Hubs drove there this morning and brought back 4 donuts. Peanut butter w/ banana (2), Blueberry with some cheese filling and a chocolate covered one also with a cheese filling. Outstanding donuts. They all had a sort of crispy texture when biting into them. Delish. A little pricey at $10, but worth it.

Top 5 Sushi L.A.- I know it's been done, but this is 2010!

We have been to Chiba dozens of times. Love it. It just so happens, tonight we have the pleasure of going to Urasawa. I am so excited.
