Good Places To Have Lunch In SOHO?

This is an old thread, but OUT was NOT good, my salad was limp with no dressing and the red bell pepper tart was lacking.

Looking for fabulous Bday dinner and brunch suggestions in NYC

As I've said before, not big drinkers, probably only a glass for me. So here's the questions, Marea or Ai Fiori? They both have a prix fixe..Ai Fiori is slightly cheaper at $92 a head.

When I mean "local" I mean East Coast centric seafood that isn't as readily available on the West Coast. But point taken that everything these days is FedEx'd.

Thanks for the heads up! Aquagrill seems like a good location for us since we'll be in Soho and they seem to have interesting offerings that I can't get out here in the West Coast. Pearl seems like it's a classic seafood bar. How's that compare with Aquagrill?

Thanks Kathryn, point taken.

I think that I'm looking for the following in the drinks arena equivalent to something like what Bourbon and Branch might do http://www.bourbonandbranch.com/?case... or AQ http://aq-sf.com/CocktailsSpirits.pdf

Alder and B&D seem right up that alley. All great recs.

I think for post drink hangouts, I'm open to any unique ones, i.e. Slate for ping pong. We will be staying in Soho/EastVillage area. Cocktail lounges are great, venues with music are good too.

Thanks Kathryn. We are not HUGE drinkers, we might just have a bottle of wine. I think defining "fabulous" for that budget is where I'm at. Maison Premiere looks pretty awesome I will take a look at your recs.

Looking for fabulous Bday dinner and brunch suggestions in NYC

Hello Chowhounders,

I'll be in NYC the 1st week of September and looking for some recs. I'm pretty familiar with the food scene in NYC and I'm from SF. Been to Le Bernadin, Esca, Babbo, DB restos etc.

For Dinner:
I'm looking for a place for about $200 out the door for 2.
Seafood, sustainable/organic and local (preferred), inventive yet not too bougie. Ambiance, nice enough to dress up a bit and not feel out of place. Will travel around major Manhattan area.

For Brunch:
Good selection of oysters perhaps, a twist on the classics, something different with a nice NYC vibe / env't. Outdoors would be nice, but not necessary.

Any other good cheap eats and post dinner drink hangouts also greatly appreciated. Thanks!

5 hour layover in Dubai, looking for good cheap eats

We are traveling on a layover into India in a week and would love your recommendations for a reasonably priced meal. Nothing fancy, just good and inexpensive. Nothing extensively far from the airport either. If we have time, we'd like to go to the Burj as well.

SF Chowhounder visiting NYC > cheap eats in Chelsea/Meatpacking & good reasonably priced dinners?

Hmm, I'll give Keste some thought...I've succumbed to the fact that I may not ever get a good GF pizza. Didn't know that Babbo has non-wheat pasta...I may have to try it! Thanks everyone for the suggestions. These are all awesome!

Thanks Michelle! Eataly looks pretty amazing...did that just open? This looks like a great place to just nibble and try different things.

Our "splurge" restaurant is Babbo. We've eaten there before and it's been some of the best Italian we've had (and we've been to Italy!). We're happy to try something new if you have any other suggestions.

Thanks again!

One more question on Danji & Kyotofu...ok I've been a little frustrated with new renditions of asian bistros that are smaller in proportion and taste just the same as it's authentic counterpart (if not less). Is that the case at Danji? It's like the mentality of "oh let's make this cute and call it nouveau Asian" and charge more (but really a customer can get just as good a bibimbap at an authentic ethnic place.) If it's truly innovative and different, I'm willing to give it a go! Thoughts?

Looking for the best Lobster Bisque

Hello Chowhounders,

So I had the best lobster bisque of my life when I visited Soho several years back and I totally don't remember the name of the restaurant. It wasn't Baltazar and it was a tiny little cozy place. Could it have been La Sirene? Would love any one's thoughts and opinions!

thanks!

SF Chowhounder visiting NYC > cheap eats in Chelsea/Meatpacking & good reasonably priced dinners?

Hello NYC Chowhounders!

So the husband and I will be heading out to our favorite city (next our own) ;). We've eaten at some of the higher end places in NYC (Babbo, Le Bernadin, DB, Esca, Aquavit, Peter Luger..etc) and now we're on a budget for a tradeshow

We'd love to see if there are any great cheap eats for the Chelsea/Meatpacking area as we'll be going to a convention at Jacob Javitts Ctr.

We eat EVERYTHING, except I can't really have wheat. (I will try a good slice of pizza if it's really worth it) We do get good Korean, Mexican and Vietnamese here in Cali, but willing to see what NYC has to offer. We love seafood and a good steak.

For dinner, we'd like a nice sit down place, no more than $40 per person if possible.
Willing to travel outside of the Meatpacking if there are some good eats in that range.

Thanks!

Recommendations: San Jose?

Not sure if I'm too late here! But my SIL is a chef here in the Bay Area and there are a couple of places that she's a fan of as are we. Yes, we don't have the "shmancy" stuff like SF but we have the good authentic ethnic foods.

Chinese Seafood : Joy Luck in Cupertino Village
Korean Beef Soup: hours and hours of boiling marrow http://www.yelp.com/biz/kunjip-restau...
Mediteranean: DishDash in Sunnyvale
Vietnamese: VungTau in downtown San Jose
Best Ramen outside of Tokyo: Orenchi in Sunnyvale
Japanese Tapas: Gochis http://www.yelp.com/biz/gochi-japanes...

I second Alexander's for good steak. Have fun and looking forward to a full report back!

In search of the BEST BREAD PUDDING recipe!

Thank you everyone for your prompt responses. I'm from the States so pudding is equivalent to something like a Jello-pudding cup as opposed to a cake. What I had did have an extremely moist cake-like texture and I don't think that it was make out of bread per se. I will investigate your recommendations for recipes and see how close I can get to what I found at the Tate Modern.

In search of the BEST BREAD PUDDING recipe!

My husband and I had the most amazing bread pudding when we visited the Tate Modern Restaurant several years ago. I've been hunting around for a recipe since and haven't come across one that was even close. A chef friend of mine said that what makes it so tasty is the "suet" is that true?

This is what is currently listed on their lunch menu:

Sticky toffee pudding with hot fudge sauce and clotted cream

It sounds pretty close to what we tried. Does anyone have any suggestions or has tried this recent pudding listed?

I would love to make it for the holidays! Thanks!

Planning my first trip to SFO in August 2010.

I'd also consider Fish and Farm's burger which is truly decadent with the special sauce!

"What I experienced was a purely warm-and-fuzzy, hedonistic moment of deliciousness that wouldn’t allow even a bit of snarky judgment to sneak its way in. If there’s an umami god out there, this burger was built to pay homage to it."

Brunch place around Fort Mason or Chestnut?

Hello Chowhounders! Can anyone make a recommendation for a good brunch place around Fort Mason or on Chestnut/Union St? We'll be heading out to the Renegade Fair next weekend and wanted a place close by where we don't need to repark. Thanks!
