Best Wine Shop

I love Wine Bottega - boshtx had it exactly right. They are enthusiastic and knowledgable without being intimidating. I have certainly had occassions when I spent a lot of money there (for me!) but often I don't, and they never make me feel like I am wasting their time if I just want an inexpensive botte for an everyday dinner.

November Farmers' Markets, CSAs, Farmstands and winter plans

I did the Enterprise Farm CSA this summer (just ended last week!) and was very happy with the variety and quality of vegetables each week and the delivery service was very convenient through MetroPedalPower.

They do have a winter CSA that starts up in a few weeks, but since I travel a lot during winter won't be signing up. I'll be back next summer though!

Wine pairing suggestion (BYOB)?

I have a special wine that I want to enjoy with a friend - it was a birthday gift - without doing a whole cooking and cleanup at my place, so I thought that going out to a BYOB restaurant to enjoy would be nice.

The bottle is not expensive: Casalone Maripsoa Brachetto 2001 - a sparkling rose on the sweet side. If I end up cooking at home, are there any suggestions for food pairings with this wine? I don't have a specific cuisine in mind.

Recent Burgers

Axactly - although I had never been to 'News', but many people have used that reference.

Recent Burgers

Splash Lounge near South Station has a good variety of burgers, and all are available as a single large burger or 3 sliders. Not sure if it qualifies since isn't beef, but the crabcake sliders with mini brioche buns were yummy. The other options sounded tasty too. Fries were EXCELLENT.

On a non-burger note the ricotta pillows with truffle butter were fab also. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays are packed crowd but if you go on a tuesday night you'll probably have the place to yourself.

NOTE: this place is a lounge and bar only - no actual tables. comfortable couches and coffee-table height tables. They do have a roof deck!

April openings and closings

Does anyone know about a new restaurant under construction at the corner of Washington and Beach street at the edge of Chinatown? It is the previously vacant space attached to the archstone building. There is brown paper on the windows and construction going on inside inside. No signage up, but a little birdie told me that a 'fancy asian restaurant' would be going in, possibly to open in June. Does anyone know anything about that?

28 Degrees Food

The last time I was there was about 6 months ago. We ate at the bar and had a great time. The seared scallop entree was AMAZING and the bartender was very nice, suggesting wine pairings for each course.

I'll be interested to see what changes the new consulting chef comes up with.
