Spalla's/ Culinary delights in Natick

Very interesting. I live in the area and will definitely give this place a try. Looks like it is right next to the Route9/27 Plaza. Thanks for the heads up!

May 2012 Openings and Closings

I noticed this place going in awhile ago and wondered what they plan to offer that cannot be had a mere 20 feet away at Deli One.

If so, that's a lot of coffee-focused places in a very small area (Boston Common Coffee and Thinking Cup are right there and Sip would make a 3rd). Not to mention within a 3 min walk there are multiple DnD and Fivebucks.

Any info on Happy’s Bar & Kitchen

"Melted cheese" as in like a Velveeta style cheese or the canned/bagged stuff you get with your Fenway or Garden nachos? I am no nacho snob by any means, but liquid cheese on nachos has never worked for me especially in a restaurant setting. A better idea would be to bring out the nachos with the cheese melted on it and then let you add your toppings on your own.

No prices on the menu. Hopefully they add those soon. I hate when restaurants have menus online without prices.

Anything New In Natick/Framingham?

There isn't much new in the area especially in regards to casual places to watch a game with good food. You could always do the bar area of Legal, the bar area of Joe's in Shopper's World (I much prefer their food to John Harvard's) or the bar area of Firefly's. Certainly none of these suggestions are going to offer superb food but if you are just looking for some beers and a burger/sandwich while you watch the game, you could do worse. For all the restaurants in the area, it is sorely lacking in casual places with above average food. A good pub with some creative food would make a killing.

I would like to tell you about the food at Orinoco (Brookline)

I'm shocked this place was so jammed on a rainy Tuesday night that a party of 3 couldn't get a seat in 45 minutes.

Best Fresh Bagels In Boston?

I completely agree. There is no better bagel in the area than a warm Rosenfelds bagel. But once it cools down, it hardens very quickly and rapidly and somewhat remarkably transforms into just another average bagel.

Coach Grill, Sudbury

While those numbers are accurate they don't tell the full story and it is only fair to compare apples to apples. That Grill 23 sirloin you mentioned is dry aged, prime beef. The Coach Grill $30 sirloin is not (I believe it is choice). Whether or not it is worth the extra $20 is a different story but I will say the Grill 23 dry aged sirloin is the best piece of beef I have had in town. I do like the Coach Grill though and go there at least a few times a year for a decent dinner when I don't feel like going in town.

Jonathan's Bar & Grille should be opening sometime this month. It is located in the former Papa Gino's space on Needham St. in Newton.

Coach Grill, Sudbury

No quite. I'd put most of Coach's prices at somewhere between 10-15% (depending on the menu item) lower than places like Grill 23, Del Frisco's, Abe & Louie's etc. For example, a NY Strip at Coach Grill is $30. Without checking, I think many of the high end steakhouses charge several dollars more for their NY Strip. I also think their cocktails are $2 or so less than comparable ones downtown.

Lobster Rolls and Chowder near Fenway Park

I always wondered whether he was saying hot pretzels or soft pretzels. I guess it was the accent. Nice man. Reminds me of my youth and going with my father as a young boy in the early 80s.

Lobster Rolls and Chowder near Fenway Park

"I miss the old man you used to run the cart outside yelling "Peanuts! Pistachios!! Cashews!!"

That brings back some memories. I think he used to add "soft pretzels" after the "cashews" The Globe did a story on him awhile back.

Thoughts on boston's CRUMBS Cupcakes

They should be huge at 800 or so calories a pop (according to the Boston Business Journal article).

Food Truck Season

Doesn't Clover set up shop in Dewey Square for breakfast? I see them there almost every morning on the way to my office. Dewey Square isn't more than a 5-8 minute walk from almost anywhere in the Financial District and in many cases is much closer.

March Madness in the Financial District

Anyone have any suggestions for a place in the financial district to watch the games later this week during the day that has decent food and drink? The North Station bars are a bit too far. Closer to South Station/Downtown Crossing would be better. Thanks.

Where to eat lunch in downtown Boston?

Karo's has always done sandwiches on sub rolls as one of their limited options.

Rox Diner in Newtonville....anyone?

I ate here last weekend at what is probably one of their busier times of the week (Sat. around 12:00pm). We were quoted a 40 minute wait but it turned out to be about 20 minutes before they called us. I thought the food was pretty good. I think the homefries need some work. With the understanding that we were there at a peak time, the service was very slow. Our waitress was pleasant enough and took our order quickly but it went downhill from there. It took 35 minutes to get our food and the waitress was nowhere to be found. Maybe that is not an eternity but it sure felt like it with two hungry toddlers in tow. We had ordered a muffin which could have easily been brought over to help tide over the kids. When the food finally came, several items had been forgotten and it took a few more minutes to complete the order. They also gave me a Pepsi when I ordered a Coke which is a pet peeve of mine. What ever happened to the "we serve pepsi, is that ok?" line? But the food was pretty good. I had an a very good omelet. I will be back but likely at an off peak hour.

Boston Public Market Proposal

There are plenty of taxis available for those who buy too much to carry on the T.

and my guess is that the proponents of the Public Market are not expecting more than a handful of customers from Greater Boston residents living in the suburbs driving in to buy items at the market. That's not what this is about. If you think this is designed for people from Natick to drive 30 min to park right in front and shop at the market before returning home via their car, I think you are missing the point of this.

Boston Public Market Proposal

If you are driving to this location as a tourist, resident or person who works downtown, you are doing it wrong.

Saturday night challenge in Newton: quick dinner options

Four gas stations?

Duozo or Haru

I have eaten at both places quite a bit and find Duozo to be much better quality fish. The only advantage of Haru that I have been able to find is that you can easily get a reservation via Open Table. Both have validated parking. I also like the drinks better at Duozo.

Does anyone serve steamed cheeseburgers anymore?

I've had the burger at Clover Grill in New Orleans. I recall it being cooked under a hubcap on a griddle and not purely steamed like Ted's. In any event, the burger at Clover was excellent and my non red meat eating wife even took a bite (the only time in 10 years of marriage I have seen her eat red meat - ah NOLA)

Does anyone serve steamed cheeseburgers anymore?

I once stopped for Ted's when I was in the area. The burgers are rather interesting. I found the best part to be the gooey cheese they used. The burgers themselves are indeed juicy but I will always much prefer grilled. Definitely worth a stop though.

Newton tonight

Down Galen street about a mile or so from your hotel on Main St. in Watertown is Not Your Average Joe's. Decent, casual American and depending on the time, there may not be a wait. Another choice might be Fiorella's in Newton.

Please help - Just read negative review on Scampo. Should I still go on Saturday night or should I go to Sorrelina?

Stick with Scampo and grab a pre/post meal drink in their lobby bar. Good people watching and a beautiful space.

Great old school pizza and arancini at Galleria Umberto

"I might be the only one to pay attention to things like this, but they have the coldest can of Coke in the city (perfect pizza pairing IMO)."

You are definitely not the only person who pays attention to coldness of Coke. At home, I like to throw my cokes in the freezer (glass bottles please) for 5-6 minutes until it gets to the coldest point possible before it freezes. Yum.
