are great Oven Baked Fries a possibility?

I soak the raw cut fries in warm water to remove some of the starch. I then dry them, coat in oil and bake until crisp and brown. Removing some of the starch helps the fries get crisper.

LA Cheap Eats Food Tour--Any More Suggestions?

Donut Man (Fresh Strawberry Donuts, Fresh Peach Donuts and Chocolate Bavarian Cream Donuts) in Glendora is a great suggestion.

One of my favorite meals is the Half Chicken Plate at Dino's Burgers in Azusa and Donuts at Donut Man in Glendora for dessert.

Note to Film_Score, Dino's Burgers in Azusa serves its Half Chicken Plate in a plate with real metal eating utensils while Dino's Burgers Pico (the original location) serves its Half Chicken Plate in a styrofoam container with plastic eating utensils. Also, order Dino's Bugers Half Chicken Plate with extra "Juice."

Chocolate mousse cake

I 2nd Cook's Illustrated Triple Chocolate Mousse Cake.The cake gets lighter as you go up to create a delightful contrast in textures and minimize heaviness -- the bottom layer is a flouless chocolate cake, the middle layer is chocolate mousse and the top layer is like a white chocolate chiffon. I am not much of a baker but I made this cake for Xmas to rave reviews.

FYI, for the white chocolate layer, I melted imitation white chocolate chips and it turned out great. The blogger used real white chocolate but Cook's Illustrated found that they got better results from using imitation white chocolate.

Ground beef for meat broth?

FYI, Cook's Illustratrated (January/February 2009 issue) found that chicken stock made from boiling ground chicken (no bones) had more "significantly more flavor" than chicken broth made from boiling chicken parts (with bones).

To back up this subjective result with emperical evidence, Cook's Illustrated tested both stocks to measure the total amount of "dissolved solds" (an indicator of how much flavor was extracted from the chicken). The stock made from chicken parts and water had 3.32 grams of dissolved solids per 100 grams of stock. The stock made from ground chicken and water had 5.6 grams of dissolved solids per 100 grams of stock -- 68,67% more dissolved solids.

Results should be similar with stock made from ground beef.
