Leslieville Pumps

I wasn't even aware this existed until the write-up on Toronto Life today and came here to do a search to see if anyone had already had a good experience with it. I'm very curious to see if the fried pickles and corn fritters are good - I might take a walk by this weekend to try some out.

Fish and Chips in TO that have Fries with Dressing (Newfie Fries)!

Pineapple Crush is an essential element of a french fries, dressing and gravy meal! That said, I have nothing to contribute to the search for french fries, dressing and gravy as I've never found any here. I always wait until I'm back in NL to get the real thing!

Recent Marben, since the change of staff?

Had the burger last weekend for brunch and it was exactly the same as it was the three other times I've had it - DELICIOUS. The only change we noticed was that the service was better than on previous visits!

Lunch / Take-out near Eaton Centre...anything worth having?

Yes, at Sliced. I'm going to try a made-to-order sandwich next time to see if the value is any better.

Lunch / Take-out near Eaton Centre...anything worth having?

I had a pre-prepared egg salad sandwich there this week. It cost $8!!! That includes tax and it was definitely delicious for a pre-packaged sandwich but I consider the price to be nuts, no matter how tasty it was.

Chippy's on Queen - is it me or is it getting better?

My reading comprehension must not have been the best on Saturday - I skimmed the note and my take-away was that it was closed! I must have skipped some of the important words. Oops!

Chippy's on Queen - is it me or is it getting better?

Walked by yesterday - closed for good. I didn't bother reading the entire note left on the door because it's been so long since the food there was worth eating. I used to love taking a picnic over to the park back in the day!

Goods and Provisions Welcome to the Hood!

Haven't tried the County General yet so I can't comment on theirs but my favourite in the city are the ones at Origin. It doesn't get any better for me than a warm deviled egg with a hunk of crispy pancetta stuck in it!

Goods and Provisions Welcome to the Hood!

Your experience sounds very similar to ours - Dark and Stormy cocktails, beer, and terrine plate. There was also a deviled egg on my terrine plate, which was actually a little bit disappointing. It was cold and I like 'em warm! I'll live though because the egg yolk part of the egg was so tasty. The bf had the steak with duck fat frites. The steak was perfectly cooked and the frites were crispy and well seasoned. The service personable and attentive. We'll definitely be back to try the bone marrow!

Sausage Partners

Managed to go last weekend - had some awesome sausages (the bacon breakfast links were a standout) and the sticky toffee pudding is awesome too! The only minor downside is that we chomped down on two date pits and almost lost a couple of teeth. It was worth it though.

Sausage Partners

I peeked in the window last night on my way home and I'm DEFINITELY going to stop in this weekend to pick up some goodies to test out - sticky toffee pudding, sausages, pickles - I could go on. This is the closest shop of its kind near my new home and I'm very excited about it finally opening. I will report back with my reviews.

Over-rated Bonjour Brioche

I'm totally with you. The first and only time I was there, the eggs were also completely undercooked and the "grilled cheese" was just a toasted sandwich with cheese in it (and it didn't even taste that good). Overrated.

Le Creuset at Home Sense & Winners

I saw them too. They were labeled 'seconds'. Saw a couple of pieces at the College Park Winners last week too.

Grilled Cheese Sandwich

LOVE LOVE LOVE About Cheese grilled cheese. They do not skimp at all on the cheese so you end up with a gooey, buttery mess of a sandwich to devour. You can have with prosciutto or without but I haven't heard of them letting you choose the cheese. They do shave it off and prepare it for you fresh though, so I'm sure if you asked nicely, they would throw in whatever you wanted.

Prairie Girl Bakery

Weird - my icing wasn't gritty at all so I guessed it was cooked. I have to admit that I'm not exactly 100% positive I know how to tell the difference. I mean, I can certainly tell when the icing is practically crunching with sugar crystals but if it's more subtle than that, my tongue can't pick it up.

Prairie Girl Bakery

I just dropped in on my way back from the gym (it's all about balance!) and picked up 3 minis to test out. The two I've eaten so far were quite good. They use a cooked buttercream if I'm not mistaken (and I completely could be). Both the peanut butter and the coconut were very light and had no grit at all. The chocolate with peanut better frosting had a nice balance of flavour - the cake wasn't overpowered by the frosting. There was no hint of anything artificial or greasy about both the chocolate and vanilla cakes. I'm saving my Red Velvet for later.

Best sourdough bread in Toronto?

Loved the bread when I went for dinner on Thursday! A nice bit of tang and flavour from the red fife.

New PC Insiders Report.

I thought it was terrible too. It's just a crappy red velvet cake surrounding an edible cheesecake with a crappy chocolate crust. Total disappointment.

I have a candy cane one in the freezer but the red velvet was so bad I'm almost afraid to defrost.

New PC Insiders Report.

This is not a new Insiders Report item, but I LOVE the Salt and Balsamic Vinegar kettle-style chips. I typically steer clear of flavoured chips and go for good salty crunchiness, but these ones have me hooked.

New PC Insiders Report.

Oh no! This was one of the items that I had high hopes for. Did it have a discernable beet flavour at least?

Places to Drink Solo?

I also really like the Roof at the Park Hyatt. Excellent Manhattans and free rice crackers and nuts to snack on.

Places to Drink Solo?

I completely agree with this recommendation. The cocktails are always interesting and complex. They also have a great selection of wine and beer if that's what you're looking for and tasty meat-based snacks.

It's Pot Pie Season! Where's the good ones?

I had a great chicken pot pie for brunch at Frank over a year ago. It looks like it's not on the menu now, which is too bad because I thought it was outstanding. It had a really flaky pastry crust and rich gravy. Fingers crossed that they put it back on the menu.

Eating In & Around the Toronto Film Festival

Door was also open on Sunday afternoon with the sandwich board out front. Looks like it's up and running. I tried to convince my bf that it was a good time for a sandwich but we had gorged on too much popcorn already.

Anyone recall the name of the burrito place that was featured as unhealthy in a Toronto Star article in the last few weeks (or months)?

When I used to live out in that area, this used to be my usual "to hell with healthy" comfort food meal. I still get cravings but since they've changed their hours to weekdays only, I never have the opportunity to hook myself up with some gut-busting roti.

Restaurant for a date with a "foodie"?

Dark Horse can be great depending on who pulls your shot. In addition, I'm not as happy with the baked goods as I used to be - it seems as though there are some freshness issues on the weekend. That said, it's one of my favourite places in town to get espresso-based drinks.

chocolate mint candy bar

Oh man, the Mint Royaleused to be my favourite chocolate bar when I was a teenager and I had forgotten all about it until you mentioned it. I may run a test to find out if the After Eight bar is its current incarnation.

Birthday cake flavoured ice cream

I agree that the PC version was bad as far as proper birthday cake ice cream goes, but that didn't stop me from eating about half a litre in one sitting. Any ice cream is better than no ice cream!

TORONTO - WE NEED TURKISH FOOD

Perhaps? I don't remember the name just the pictures. Are you going to tell me that this is just a stuffed baked potato chain spot? I was really hoping it was going to be kumpir.

TORONTO - WE NEED TURKISH FOOD

Not quite what this thread is talking about, but it looks like a kumpir place could be opening up in the food court thing that used to have the Ben & Jerry's etc. in it just east of John on Queen!! I can't remember what the sign says it's going to be called but I do remember the pictures of baked potatoes stuffed with sausages and tuna. Kumpir was my favourite snack when I was in Istanbul a few months ago!
