Looking for wines (or beers) as sweet as Manischewitz wine

I have a pink moscato in the fridge that doesn't taste sweet to me at all.

Looking for wines (or beers) as sweet as Manischewitz wine

I'm in the mood for some alcohol tonight. Something really sweet. I've had Manischewitz before, and that's about the right amount of sweetness I long for. I've been trying various white and red wines at the grocery store that are suppose to be sweet, and I can't find anything that tastes even remotely sweet to me. I'm going to head off to the liquor store later, can you give me any recommendations?

Can I cook pasta in a rice cooker?

I don't have the option of cooking pasta in a boiling pot on a burner of any sort. No open flames and even electric hot plates aren't an option.

Things that boil water, though, are okay. I have a water kettle that doesn't have an automatic shut off, but it is a pain to clean because the kettle doesn't detach from the electrical bottom. I can't put it in the sink.

I've been planning to buy one of those counter top rice cookers anyways, but I was hoping it was possible to make pasta in them as well. Do they actually reach a boil or are they just really hot? I realize I might not get fantastic pasta out of them, and I am okay with that.

If rice cookers won't work, does someone out there make a quality water kettle with no automatic shut off that detaches from the base?

Microwaves aren't an option. I have attempted pasta in the microwave before and am never impressed.

Thanks!

Need an idea of what to order at a pub!

Just a regular old bar/pub like in the show Cheers. It's near my work place and I work at a campus so they probably see a lot of students.

Need an idea of what to order at a pub!

I don't drink very often at all, and almost never socially. I've been in a bar once in my life before now. I'm going to a celebration later at that same bar.

The only things I really like are Smirnoff Ice (raspberry flavored), mikes hard lemonade, and wine coolers. I know for a fact this bar doesn't do wine coolers.

What can I order? Would a bar, in theory, have straight flavored vodkas and just add club soda to them? How do I order this? Is there a special phrase I need to use?

Outside that, would a bar carry any kind of sweet wine? What are the names of sweet flavored wines?

I'm completely clueless and a little anxious about this.

(I realize I could forgo spirits all together, but last time I went they all puppydog eyed me into at least getting a glass of wine, which I didn't enjoy very much)

In need of a healthy take on carrot cake!

I agree with you, that is my own personal philosophy regarding birthday treats. Alas, I am not the decision maker on this. The conversation with the rest of my department went sort of like:

Co-worker A: Her favorite cake is carrot cake
Co-worker B: We should get her one!
Co-worker A: But she's on a diet.. she's always on a diet. Could we get one that's healthier?
Me: You'd have to make one.
Co-worker A: You could do it!
Me: I've never made a carrot cake before..
Co-worker A: you're a good baker! Come on, you can do it.
Me: ..I can try.

In need of a healthy take on carrot cake!

I somehow got volunteered to make our boss a carrot cake for her birthday this Thursday. This is her absolute favorite kind, but I have never made any kind of carrot cake before.

This is compounded by the fact that the boss lady is watching her caloric intake.

I pretty much decided that the cream cheese frosting is out and that I will cook the cake in a bunt pan and make a simple sugar glaze to put over it. But I still need a recipe! I did some poking around on the internet and seen recipes call for a ton of eggs or for lots of butter.

Anyone know of a tasty carrot cake recipe that I could spin as "healthy"?

Other details:
- Boss hates chocolate.
- I only have a Walmart near me to shop at.

Pita bread with no pocket?

Hello! I love hummus and pita bread ever since I ate at a middle eastern restaurant a couple of years back. At that particular establishment the 'pita bread' had no pocket and was very tender. I've had this kind of pita bread before at other places, but I cannot find it's likeness in the store.

The store pita bread has a definite pocket and is often very hard or firm and the top is kind of flakey.

Did I actually eat pita bread in the restaurants? Or was it some other kind of flatbread? Where can I buy it, or how can I make it?

Thank you!
