What is the Porto's of West Los Angeles?

Thanks everyone!

What is the Porto's of West Los Angeles?

Man, who doesn't love Portos! I'm located in Culver City and have a dinner party coming up. I'd love to get a few trays of meat pies, potato balls, and some pastries but Porto's is a bit out of the way this time. Can anyone suggest another shop that might have the meat pies, potato balls, croquettes, etc. at a reasonable price like Portos but hopefully closer to Culver/West LA?

The Best Internet Cafes South Broward?

Thanks guys! Maguires sounds like it has a lot going on. Brew seems a bit more my speed. I will definitely stop in!

The Best Internet Cafes South Broward?

Hi Chowhounds! I am visiting from Los Angeles where our cafes and work remote spots are bountiful. Not having the best luck here though, besides Starbucks locations that have pretty slow WIFI connections. Do you have any recommendations for good cafes or even restaurants that are good for "work from home" freelancers? I noticed people using WIFI in the lobby of Publix Downtown Ft. Lauderdale which was not something that I ever noticed when I lived here 7 years ago :)

60th Birthday with 10-20 Guests in Hollywood/Ft. Laud

Re: Argentango- Looking at their website I was totally excited to call and check on group events. I call and a lady answers the phone that couldnt understand a word of english. After hearing her say "uhhh...." a few times I had to ask if she spoke english. Then she says "one moment" and hands me to another guy that didn't speak much english either. Finally got a manager - and he went through the menu with me for prices (which are not listed on their online menu). Nice of him to do so, but I'll pass. I think Opa is the winner!

60th Birthday with 10-20 Guests in Hollywood/Ft. Laud

Hello FL Hounds! I actually live in California but I'm visiting South Florida at the end of this month for my dad's 60th birthday. I'm looking to plan something festive to bring out friends and family on a Saturday night. I'm definitely looking for something affordable since I'm most likely picking up the bill myself (keeping around $20 per person not including alcohol). Nothing super fancy since my parents aren't really into that. Something more sporty and casual perhaps near the beach would be great.

After looking through this board I've noticed that Taverna Opa could be a great option for sunset dinner ($18 per person) or La Barraca in Hollywood. Our friends and Family are mostly Columbian so latin cuisine would be lovely but they're not picky.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a casual birthday spot that would be affordable?

Thanks in advance!

SINGING WAITERS?

not singing, but there's belly dancers at Marrakesh (moroccan). Dinner is served family style and you can reserve a private room. I really enjoy this place.

Mammoth Mountain Recommendations?

I'm planning a trip with friends for next month but I haven't been in years. I figure there's probably some LA Hounds that like to get up to the mountain here and there. Any suggestions for good food (keeping it affordable- nothing too fancy), bars, or pubs?

Thanks!!

Oishi Sushi at 201Robertson Blvd. just south of Wilshire in Beverly Hills. I work down the street and eat here regularly. Great rolls! Great quality of everything! I bring friends here and they love it.

Where to find Apple Cider mix in LA?

I love serving warm apple cider and rum in the winter. Just boil it with rum cinnamon sticks, and perhaps some slices of apple. In my search for apple cider, I found it randomly in some select grocery stores. Very hit and miss. I can't even tell you where I did find it because I remember purchasing one week, then not finding it after that.

I'm from Florida and they usually carried apple cider in gallon jugs near the orange juices and dole juices. Out here I would think you have the best chance at the more fancy grocers. Good Luck.

Shee Crab Chowder in LA?

wow I'd really like to know as well. let's bump this to the top!

Quality restaurant for Work Christmas dinner?

My company is having our holiday dinner at Cravings. I think they have a private room for 20-30.

Also I would suggest Porterhouse Bistro on Wilshire. They have private dining and a prix fixe menu. Here's a review - http://www.potatomato.com/mt/archives...

BDay for mid-20's crowd? Studio City to Pasadena

Thanks everyone! Great recommendations.

BDay for mid-20's crowd? Studio City to Pasadena

Hi. I'm trying to plan a birthday dinner for myself and friends. In reading past posts, I'm thinking something like Cha Cha Cha in Silverlake might be fun. I was also thinking about Marrakesh in Studio City but I've been there a few times recently for other parties and would like to change it up. I'd like to stay out of West Hollywood unless the location has easy parking.

There will be about 15 folks. 22-30 yrs old. Drinkers who like meat, and entree's under $20. Beer around $5 would be a huge plus! Nothing super fancy either. Maybe something pre fixe like Marrakesh would be pretty cool but not necessary.

Anything fun and unique? Or just a grand time?

Thanks in advance for the tips!

Holiday Dinner Recs. for 30 with Private Room? West Side

wonderful! thanks to both of you.

Holiday Dinner Recs. for 30 with Private Room? West Side

Hi! Anyone have any recommendations for a company holiday dinner on the west side? Preferably Beverly Hills or near. Party of approx. 30 with a few picky eaters. Must have private room.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Marina Del Rey Marriott - Nearby?

I had a really nice breakfast last month with a friend that was staying at the Marriott. And it's super close... Just walk through the Glow lounge to the back exit and you will walk up to a little shopping plaza right on Washington. Joni's Coffee Roaster is the spot. It's in the shopping plaza- just look for the tables and chairs outside.

For Dinner I HIGHLY recommend C&O Trattoria also on Washington but take Washington all the way west to the beach. Careful because there's 2 C&O Trattoria's on Washington but I'm recommending the one right by the beach for the ambiance. Opt for outside seating and enjoy yourself with affordable Italian family style dining (and free delicious garlic knots). There's a cork fee if you want to bring your own wine ($15 maybe) but they also have house wine by the glass- sometimes on the honor system. C&O also has a yummy brunch. It's right by the pier on Washington and there's a good selection of bars on the same block- all right by the beach.

If you want Mexican - Baja Cantina is right there on Washington as well and it's really close to the Marriott.

I'm trying to find more info on FOOD on Pico- any links?

Breakfast in Corona/Anaheim?

I'm taking a trip out to the Glen Ivy Spa in Corona with my aunt this Sunday afternoon. Wondering if anyone can recommend a nice breakfast (brunch maybe) spot in Corona or Anaheim that we can hit up on our way to the spa!

Thanks.

House Without A Key

Thanks so much for sharing the photos and info everyone!

House Without A Key

Aloha! I'm planning a trip from LA to Oahu next month and I've been putting together my wish list of dining/drink options. The scenery at HWAK grabbed me and I think I'd really like to check it out. I can't seem to find info on attire- website says resort casual but some reviews say sporty is fine. Can someone tell me if sundresses are appropriate?

Also I read that the coconut shrimp are great. Should we be dining here or just visit for drinks/appetizers? Do they have any sort of a Happy Hour?

Thank You!!

eat before a show at The Avalon?

I highly recommend Kung Pao Kitty on Hollywood and Cahuenga. It's asian, really dim lighting, good cocktails, pretty affordable, not crowded- i'm usually seated right away. I eat here before Avalon shows all the time.

Take out near Culver City

While you're at Albertson's on Venice- Pick up some of their prepared warm bbq sausage at the deli. It's a quick delicious bbq fix. I usually boil some potatoes with it. Yummy!

And the award for Best Lobster Bisque goes to...

I love lobster bisque and this seems to be close to me. I'll check it out. Thanks!

Porto's Bakery -- I am speechless!

Porto's is GREAT!!! Anytime I end up in the valley I try to stop by the Burbank location. I'm going to start praying every night now that they expand to the west side. Or maybe it's best that it's not so convenient for me. Potato balls, meat pies, midnight sandwiches, everything!!!!! Anytime I heading to a family gathering I make sure to stop in for a nice assortment of goodies. And it's SOOOO CHEAP! <3 <3!!! haha

Friday Happy Hours on the Westside?

Looking for a good happy hour for drinks and food on the west side for today. Anything beginning about 6pm would be fine. Culver City, Palms, Venice, Santa Monica, Manhattan, West Hollywood.

Any tips or favorites?

Taste of Santa Monica this Sunday

I'm attending Taste of Santa Monica this weekend for the first time! Any veterans have tips or favorites that I shouldn't miss (well hopefully i'll taste EVERYTHING).

Thanks!

Moving to Culver City

Hole in the wall sushi (but great fresh fish quality and REALLY cheap) - Taro's Sushi & Teri on Washington just west of Overland. I found out about the spot when I was looking over Joe Escalante from Indie 103/ The Vandals' yelp.com picks and he raved about this mom & pop sushi spot in Culver City. I visitted one night with my girlfriends. There's seating for about 10-12 people- that's about it- but barely anyone was eating in. While we sat and ate, dozens of people were picking up their takeout orders. Great quality sashimi! Great tempura. Rolls are like $3, fresh fish is per piece- like $1.50. Feast for cheap! Read Joe's review here- it's the first review posted. http://www.yelp.com/biz/N7jT3K3uBuRNC...

In Palms on National & Motor is Mama's Pizza. Yummy Italian food and there's always a table. It's pretty well known. Their beer battered mushrooms are addicting. Great pizza and garlic knots!

Probably not considered Culver City but 26 Beach on Washington is my current favorite. Huge menu with tons of options. Call ahead and reserve a booth.

Adding to the post about about Overland Cafe- Go for Sunday brunch. All you can drink mimosa's for $4.99 with your entree.

And just last week I read a review for Honey's Kettle Fried Chicken. The reviews on yelp sound AMAZING. I can't wait to try it. That's in Culver City.

Enjoy!
