I have had Genova's, Rotten City and Southie's Meatball Sandwich...but the one I thought was better than all three was:
The Meatball sandwich on a toasted dutch crunch, with provolone cheese at Roxie Food Center in SF...And I am a Eastbay kinda guy!
Its just a small frumpy looking corner market...but man o man they make fantastic toasted sandwiches!!

"lamb biryani"...That's kinda funny...but sad.
That's what I had two weeks ago for $7.50 plus tax.
It was crap.
It was just some old lamb mixed with a dark cruel called curry and served with some bad rice.
I was out over $8 for garbage the size of my fist.

Ive been to Vik's about 10 times over the years...through all their small location changes "upgrades" and minimalist cafeteria stylings.
And never once walked away saying
"That was really good Indian food at a great value"
I wish I had a samosa for every person who said that the food was so "great and inexpensive"
Even ten years ago it took $10 bucks to fill you up for lunch!
Plus the parking is always dreadful with Bezerkely Parking nazi's circling like vultures!

They bought the business in the early 90's and destroyed a million dollar a year sandwich business that the previous owners had built up!
The new owners thought cheap ingredients and bad service was what the local people wanted...they thought wrong.

I never see that in the other beans that I buy from other roasters.
I believe it to be lack of quality control as they grew into a "mega corp"

King Yen on College in the Elmwood used to make a very good Sweet and Sour Pork.
But they seem to have changed a couple years ago?
Prices are now crazy high (I ordered 4 items to go and it cost me $56 bucks) ,smaller portions and they seemed to try and emulate some of Shen Hua style of cooking.
Loved them when they were just a higher end, really well done Americanized Chinese place.

Monaghan's is what used to be the old school Cesar's steak and pasta in Woodminster (next to Montclair)
Now its a poorly remodeled gin joint for the local drinkers. Cheap drink specials and fried wings and poppers with cheese sticks!
Nothing more..nothing less.
I find it hard to believe they are creating "the best bagels in the bay!"
But perhaps things have changed in the year since I was last there.
