Sweet Crush and Surfas

I hear you about black sesame. That flavor gets me driving miles and miles to Salju and Blockheads. YUM!

Disneyland for 5 days in November - seeking grocery stores and lunch/dinner options

My whole family enjoys "that German place." Good pancakes and it feels like you are eating at Disneyland :-)

Anniversary Dinner in La Canada area...Where would you go?

+1 Bashan. I have been there for three special dinners, with three different generations of family. Unanimous applause. Great food and really fantastic service.

FYI, beer and wine only.

I'm Going Deaf Eating Out in LA

Very wise! Unfortunately, these restaurants make me feel like an AARPer at 37. HELP!

I'm Going Deaf Eating Out in LA

Yep. I will be having dinner with my parents in DTLA next month. I have decided on Wood Spoon SOLELY because I've read that it is on the quieter side of DTLA restaurants. I can't worry too much about the fact that Brazilian is nobody's favorite in my family. We are choosing audibility over food preference.

I'm Going Deaf Eating Out in LA

Howdy! I am 37 and hate the noisy trend. Why do I want to shout at a restaurant? One restaurant blasts both hip hop and football games, simultaneously. No thanks.

Moving to Claremont

Hey Fama...just wanted to mention that my friends and I tried out "The Junction" last week and really enjoyed it. Three of the four of us ordered soy meat items; the fourth got "real meat." Korean fusion food with just the right amount of kick. I loved the soy beef and soy chicken tacos...I'll be back.

Alert: Bulgarini Culver City is No More

Hey Kevin- some pretty rough language, mocking a certain group of people, general crudeness in front of customers.

Alert: Bulgarini Culver City is No More

Yeah, Bulgarini makes great gelato but I personally had two negative experiences in the (Altadena) store. Both involved Leo behaving in an unflattering manner. This was before the 3-scoop minimum was enforced. Add the two factors together, and I am less likely to visit the shop in-person.

Beyond Vegan

I have heard the owner of Vihn Loi Tofu (Sherman Way near Reseda) accommodate special requests many times. And the food is terrific!

FARMSHOP charging .30 for paper bag. Every other market in area charging 10 cents

Yes, and I wash my bags every couple of weeks. Transitioning to reusable bags is a habit that takes time. Seven years ago, I never would have brought a bag with me to the store. But I married someone who set a good example, and I remember my bags about 80% of the time. Not perfect, but trying. I am also willing to hand-carry 4-5 items if I forgot my bag.

I'm not a burger person, but I always make it a habit to indulge in a Steak n Shake milkshake while visiting relatives in the Midwest. YUM!

One week in Santa Fe-BLD suggestions, please!

Thank you, silverfoodie. We loved the Kakawa pinon caramels and the cherry truffles. The chocolate chili ice cream got even spicier after it sat in the freezer a couple of days...yum. The only thing we wouldn't order again was the chili brownie. It was gluten-free (what were we thinking?) and quite dry.

One week in Santa Fe-BLD suggestions, please!

Thank you, Ninrn. We also really liked Rancho de Chimayo. We were getting pretty hungry after the drive from Taos (longer than expected) and were pleased with the carne adovada and the sopaipilla relleno. The staff was sweet and the patio dining was comfortable The only "miss" was the prickly pear lemonade, which was really, really tart. We would definitely go back!

One week in Santa Fe-BLD suggestions, please!

Thanks again for the Frito Pie recommendation. My partner just had one for dinner and LOVED it. The spice level started off moderate and accumulated....perfect! The employee was very friendly, allowing me to take pics with a smile. There was also something loveably kitchy about eating dinner in a five-and-dime.

Jonathan Gold Twitter Chat About 101 List, Noon

Glad to see a Jagerhaus nod! This is one place that my whole family agrees on. Breakfasts and sandwiches are unique and tasty. And call me a cheeseball, but I like the over-the-top Bavarian decor. Nice folks running the place.

One week in Santa Fe-BLD suggestions, please!

Hello friends:

My family and I are spending one week in Santa Fe, plus a day each in Albuquerque and Taos.

Any recommendations are highly appreciated! We are not looking for anything upscale, just good, unique food. We live in Los Angeles and have lots of Mexican food, so distinctly Southwestern would be wonderful.

We also love snacks, desserts and food stalls/trucks.

Also looking for take-out food for our condo and the opera.

THANK YOU!

Good for you! If customers are not going to use common sense regarding kids, etc. then the management should look out for their patrons. Bravo, sir!

Palm Springs Area: Any Chow-worthy places???

My recommendation is old news, but...Cheekys! I eat breakfast there every other week and never grow tired of the rotating menu. Last week I had an amazing breakfast sandwich: crispy croissant filled with brussels sprouts and eggs. Sounds funky but it was delicious! The kids who work there are generally really sweet.

I also really love Norma's, but the prices have grown ridiculous.
