Romantic dinner in Pacific Grove or environs

Thanks, everyone....we ended up having one of the most romantic dinners possible in Pacific Grove: a picnic at Lover's Point with food gathered in Carmel. Thanks, anyway!

Best gourmet ice cream and patisserie?

That is so funny. I know a certain 50-year old who has had similar tantrums :-)

Moving to Claremont

Personally, I find the ice cream and Bert & Rockies to be so-so. They offer many flavor choices (and some are interesting) but the flavors themselves are weak.

Moving to Claremont

I hope this isn't rude, but Walter's is a place my parents LOVE to visit when they are in town and I "don't mind" going along. As Robert mentioned, it isn't exciting but its certainly enjoyable. The patio is comfortable and amenable for conversation. Portions are generous. However, when its just my partner and I, we never chose Walter's.

Romantic dinner in Pacific Grove or environs

Hello!

I am going to be in the Monterey area this Friday and am hoping for a romantic dinner in the Monterey area. I prefer Pacific Grove but Carmel and Monterey would be OK.

Elegance is not importance...a quiet little cottage somewhere would be perfect. However, money is not a limiting factor so upscale would be fine.

Open to many cuisines except for a menu that focuses heavily on seafood.

MANY, MANY thanks in advance....you Chowhounders are a lovely group :-)

Saturday night dinner: Providence vs. Mozza

If money is not a large factor, I'd vote for Providence. I did not find the experience to be pretentious at all...very friendly folks, in fact. If anything, we have had problems with snotty staff at Mozza (though we loved the pizza and budino). Providence was rather quiet and intimate.

Best gourmet ice cream and patisserie?

Ooh,,,,I had some of Mother Moo's rum raisin this weekend....simply outstanding.

Best gourmet ice cream and patisserie?

I personally don't think the Coolhaus truck is worth the effort. Grom, however, merits the beautiful (albeit congested) drive to Malibu. Very good gelato.

Best gourmet ice cream and patisserie?

Absolutely, Mother Moo's. Ice cream is terrific and the owner is a sweetie.

The Nook

Hey Annie- I hope this doesn't sound snippy....I am genuinely curious....why would you return to a restaurant so many times when you were treated so poorly? Was the food terrific, justifying poor service?

First time to Fig---what to order?

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I LOVED the pastaless lasagne! The presentation, in a miniature cast iron skillet, was adorable and it kept the dish hot throughout the meal. My partner really enjoyed the foie gras, served in a glass jar with fig preserves and grilled bread. The staff was so kind, offering more grilled bread when they noticed that she still had foie gras in the jar (but had consumed all of the bread). I am a sticky toffee pudding addict and loved the dense and sweet version at Fig. My partner's dessert was even better...a chocolate pudding cake that sounded kind of "meh" on the menu but was assembled with just the right accompaniments....toffee, caramel sauce, malted chocolate, crunchy layers on the bottom and top of the tart-like cake. Wonderful service throughout the meal, from the hostess to the server to the bussers. One of our better dining experiences in some time. (The 50% off happy hour didn't hurt, either)

Good food near LA Memorial Coliseum?

Dommy, agreed on Bacaro, was going to recommend it myself. Really love the cauliflower (spicy!) Nice small plates with good beer, nice kids working there.

Moving to Claremont

Second Back Abbey for beer, though we haven't had much luck with the food. Stick with one of their yummy soft pretzels and head elsewhere for dinner (IMO).

First time to Fig---what to order?

Hi Chowhounds!

My partner and I are going to take advantage of the Fig Happy Hour this Friday. One of us is vegetarian, the other is not. Any suggestions?

THANK YOU!

626 Asian night market a ZOO!

That is so funny....we went to Roy's as well. We tried...made our way up and down the stalls, many being closed due to running out of food. Crazy!

The Ten Best Things To Eat In LA Right Now

Black sesame shave ice at Blockheads :-)

Palm Springs Sunday Brunch ?

The chilaquiles at the ACE are tasty!

Breakfast in Palm Springs (Ca)

Cheekys, definitely. Never get tired of this place...rotating menu, fresh produce, nice kids working there. Even their steal-cut oatmeal is delicious.

I used to love Norma's...but the prices have gone up and up....

Solo dining options in downtown LA

Well, at least you have good taste :-)

Solo dining options in downtown LA

Bazaar is fun but its not in DTLA. How about Rivera?

Top Five L.A. Sandwiches?

-ANYTHING from Bay Cities...I don't eat red meat so I haven't tried the Godmother. But the bread and meats are so tasty that even a turkey breast sandwich from this deli is faaabulous

-egg salad from Europane

-grilled cheese sandwich with grilled onions from In-n-Out

needed: casual date spot near W Westwood that is NOT the W Westwood

Second for Blvd16. Food isn't WOW but its pretty good. We like sitting at the bar and having appetizers and cocktails. My partner is picky about her mixed drinks and she was impressed at Blvd16. Notably, the lounge is quiet and seems private even when there are others around. Sophisticated but not stuffy.

WHITE TRUFFLE TASTING MENUS - 2011/2012

Not sure but I was just there this past weekend....so good! $105 gets you the risotto, agnolotti, a truffled egg and one other dish that I can't recall. I just had the risotto but I would absolutely go for the truffle tasting menu should I return.

WHITE TRUFFLE TASTING MENUS - 2011/2012

There is a $105 white truffle tasting menu at Providence. I did not order the entire tasting menu but instead added the white truffle risotto to the vegetarian tasting menu. Absolutely fantastic. Generous with the truffle shavings!

Where's all the good ice cream at?

Small specialty stores in the L.A. area offer Dr. Bob's. Wolfe's Market in Claremont had a decent selection.

Breakfast delivery- midtown Manhattan

Hello!

Will be staying at the Hilton Manhattan East and would like to have a special breakfast delivered to our hotel room. Would be interested in either traditional NYC i.e. bagels and smoked salmon OR something higher-end. Something that would be a special way to ring in a 50th Birthday :-) Any ideas?

Thank you!

L.A. Hound- 4 days in Midtown Manhattan- please help- casual recs

Hello!

My partner and I will be spending 4 days in Manhattan. We will be based at the Hilton Manhattan East and will also be visiting Ellis Island. We don't plan on bringing "dress up" clothes so we will be sticking with casual dining.

Any chow-worth recs are most certainly appreciated! Looking for both classic NY Fare (pizza, bagels, deli) and more recent, hip, trendy options.

THANK YOU!

Riviera

It has changed...you can order any dish in any room, though you may have to request that your server bring all 3 menus

Any must tries at Rivera

They have an outstanding corn flan with quinoa...yuuummmm....

Silverlake vegan??

Not elegant, but they have a full vegan menu: Gingergrass
