Seeking prime or choice brisket

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that beef is certified kosher. (This the the kosher board.)

Seeking prime or choice brisket

Thanks! Just did a quick search and it looks like Meissner's is a caterer who also has take-out food. This address is listed for take out: 2924 Avenue I Brooklyn NY 11210. Is that the address I would go to to purchase raw meat? I don't live in Brooklyn, so I doubt they would deliver to me.

Seeking prime or choice brisket

Is it possible to get prime or choice brisket somewhere in the NY metro area? Ideally somewhere that's not absurdly expensive. I'd like to possibly attempt smoking a brisket and was advised to get prime brisket, and if prime wasn't available, then choice.

Pomegranate travel meals?

I remember reading somewhere that Pomegranate in Brooklyn sells meals that they will freeze and ship anywhere (at least in the U.S.). I looked on their website though and there's no info. Can someone please tell me what meals they have available and what the cost is? Also, what's good and what's not? Thanks.

Kolbász (Hungarian sausage); goose

Thanks for all the suggestions!

The kosher butcher we got the kolbasz with paprika from in Budapest last week told us that he hasn't carried goose for two years. My husband's family is Hungarian and he grew up going there every year until about 8 years ago. From what I understand, kolbasz was always available (at least for some part of his annual trips), and in fact, used to be available in the goose variety. (Now he only carries the beef kind.)

Kolbász (Hungarian sausage); goose

First question: Has anyone ever come across Kolbász (Hungarian sausage) in the U.S.?

Second question: Are there any restaurants in the NY area that sell goose or are there any stores where it's possible to buy less than a whole goose? I saw geese once at Aron's Kissena Farms, but they were only selling whole geese (frozen). At ~$10/pound and ~15 pounds that was more than I was willing to shell out.

(These questions are related in that we just returned from Budapest, where we ate Kolbasz, and we also tried to get goose, but found out that it's been 2 years since it's been available there.)

Kosher in Belgium

We're going to Brussels and Brugges for a couple days -- is there any hechshered Belgian chocolate I should look for? Any restaurant recommendations (or places to avoid)?

Thanks! Is there any specific place you buy fish? Do you know if there is anywhere that will fillet the fish for you? (And if they do, can you see them doing it, just so you know you're getting what you thought you're getting?)

What kind of fresh fish can you get there? We'd love to be able to grill fish, in addition to meat.

Yes, I meant hard cheese, and no, I did not mean tablet-K.

Thanks, all. We like to be able to BBQ when we travel, so we always get a cabin w/ kitchenette, and were able to do so this time too. But I can see how that B&B would be a good option too. Regarding kosher food in far-flung places, we found cheese (with a universally accepted hechsher) in Rapid City, SD a couple years ago.

Does anyone know what's available in terms of kosher food in Bar Harbor, Maine? I am particularly interested in the availability of hechshered bread, cheese, and meat in local supermarkets. It looks like there's a Hannaford supermarket there.

Cafe 11 or Cravings?

Yeah, my time will be tight, so Sushein is too far north. I know the museum of Jewish Heritage has a respectable cafe, but even that is a little far. I scoped out cravings today, and it's not ideal, but it's also not terrible. Hopefully it will be ok.

Cafe 11 or Cravings?

I work near Wall Street and will be meeting a professional/networking type contact for lunch this week. Which is better -- Cafe 11 or Cravings? From the reviews, neither seem great, but I'll have to take what I can get. If you have any other suggestions, please let me know.

Bitayavon magazine?

Has anyone here seen Bitayavon Magazine? If so, is it worth a subscription? There's a discount for it today on jdeal, and I'm wondering if it's worth getting. ($14 for 6 issues over the course of a year.)

Kosher Catering under $60/pp

We also considered Temple Torah in Little Neck. The caterer there is Colbeh, and we love Colbeh's food. The problem I had with that location was that the bridal suite smelled like cigarette smoke.

Kosher Catering under $60/pp

True, it doesn't include service charges, but all places charge service fees, and people generally compare costs they don't include the service charges. I can't speak to all wedding halls, but for the couples places we looked, the service charges were about the same.

Kosher Catering under $60/pp

We had a sit down dinner and shmorg. I think a shmorg is basically the same as a cocktail hour. We also had an open bar. It was the in-house kosher caterer. I don't know if I ever knew their name.

Kosher Catering under $60/pp

We were charged $62/pp at Crest Hollow for our wedding ~5 months ago. The food was excellent, but we found them difficult to work with. Their default kosher wine is Alfasi, and my family and I really like wine, so we wanted something a little better, and we had to keep asking about it, and they gave us a hard time. Also, we had asked for a couple of rooms for various wedding things, and they said they we would have them, but then on the day of the wedding, they didn't have one of the rooms ready, and they scrambled to get it ready. I (the bride) had to wait around in the hallway until the room was ready, which was annoying. (I am normally not a high-maintenance person at all, but when you're paying tens of thousands of dollars, you don't want to be left hanging like that.) In the end, everything worked out fine, everyone had a great time, etc.

Cafe Muscat, Queens

I've gotten pasta and paninis there and they've been good. I've gotten similar things at L'Bella and been similarly pleased. The one time I got fish at L'Bella it was not good; it tasted old, like maybe it had been made from frozen fish or something. It did not taste fresh.

Avi Glatt?

Used Avi Glatt earlier this summer for food delivery to a somewhat remote (in terms of getting kosher food) area. Last summer we used them for a similar situation, and were satisfied. This summer, less so. We had a problem with our coupon code, and when we asked them to use one code instead of another, they said they would, but when we saw the charge on our credit card, they did not use the code that we requested they use. We had asked for whole wheat rolls, but said substitutions were fine (because last summer we ordered a certain brand of hot dogs, which ended up not being available), and they only gave us white flour rolls (it was a few bags of them). You'd think that whole wheat rolls would be a staple that a kosher grocery store wouldn't run out of. One of the bags of rolls had expired a few days before the shipment went out. Not a big deal if you're going to use the bread within a day or two, but if you're relying on the rolls for the duration of the week, it's annoying (they got moldy toward the end of our time there).

nitrate free hot dogs?

Going on a trip to Yellowstone and would love to have nitrate free hot dogs shipped to us there. I see that Park East Kosher carries the 999 ones and ships everywhere -- have any of you had experience with ordering from them for delivery to remote locations? Any other places you'd recommend ordering meat from?

Last year we ordered from Avi Glatt and were very satisfied, but they don't appear to carry any nitrate free hotdogs. (We also ordered steaks from Golden West Glatt, which had amazing steaks, but they seem to have disappeared.)

Kosher in Scottsdale/Phoenix

I had a turkey sandwich and was more than satiated (and it tasted good!). Also, I asked them to substitute a garden salad for the fruit salad or cole slaw that it came with, and asked for it to be wrapped in aluminum foil (since I was for the next day), and they were very accommodating.

Any chance you remember what the sandwhich place is called? I'm going to Phoenix for a conference this week, and sandwiches would be quite helpful. Thanks!

Best entrees at Crest Hollow Country Club?

Just wanted to provide an update. We were very very pleasantly surprised after our very mediocre experience back in February. We paid the standard ~$62/pp and the entrees were outstanding. The beef I ordered was moist and not overcooked at all, and delicious. Definitely on par with what you'd expect from a very nice restaurant. My husband ordered salmon, and it was also excellent. We had the talipia and chicken in the yichud room, also delicious. Cooked and seasoned to perfection. We didn't get a chance to eat from the shmorg, but got reports from food-picky people that they were impressed. We came to the conclusion that the food we were served in February was reheated from a previous event (and I hope they got a really good deal on it).

Best entrees at Crest Hollow Country Club?

We will be getting married at Crest Hollow Country Club this Spring -- has anyone tried their in-house-catering salmon or tilapia entree? If so, how were they? We went to a simcha there recently and ordered the beef and chicken entrees and were not very impressed. The beef was kind of hard to chew and overcooked (I ordered it medium, but it had absolutely no pink color), and the chicken was kind "eh." If I was hungry I'd definitely eat either of them, but they were not up to the standard I was expecting from a fancy shmancy wedding hall. Also, if you remember any shmorg dishes that were particularly good or bad, please let me know. We've already made our selections, but they were not based on a taste testing (which they basically said wasn't an option).

Cream of Mushroom Soup without MSG

If you end up trying it, would you mind reporting back about whether it works or not? MSG gives me headaches, and I'd love to be able to make tuna casserole again.

Kosher Wedding in NYC/NJ/PA

Presumably you've already searched this forum -- there are a number of threads on this topic. I know that the NY Hall of Science in Queens rents out their space, but when I looked (for our wedding this coming Spring) it was out of my price range.
