Saturday Brunch, what's good?
I like Gaslight and it isn't too expensive. Definitely not more than $20 for brunch.

Source for Wolfberries? Dr.Jim; Tang Yuan at Fuloon
They also sell them in bulk at Russo's.
one waterfront in capetown?
The food in cape town is really good with a focus on fresh healthy ingredients. Once you know the right restaurants to visit. You'll have a great time! :) Enjoy!
Just moved to Boston and need help!
My favorites are ...
Brookline: Shiki (izakaya style), Brookline Family Restaurant, Sichuan Garden (order from the chinese menu), Dok Bua (one of the best Thai), Michael's Deli (roast beef), Min Sok (korean sashimi and awesome kalbi jin), Orinoco (but I've only been the the south end location), Zaftigs is very popular for brunch.
Southend: Flour for lunch or breakfast, Toro (tapas), Chocolee (freshly made beignets)
Cambridge (Inman): Muqueca (brazilian), Christina's (best ice cream!), Oleana, Burdicks for hot chocolate and cake (skip finale!!)
I've documented my eats on my blog (with photos). Some of the restaurants are echoed by many on the Boston chow board =)

Cape Town
Hi there- Just wanted to throw in my 2 cents. (From the viewpoint of a US based foodie)
Travelmad: I agree with you. Baia and another waterfront restaurant I went to were really quite mediocre and expensive for what you get, though I suppose you are paying for the view.
One Waterfront was a refreshing change however. I liked it and the price, thought slightly more expensive, was worthwhile for the quality and ambience. I have some photos on my blog:

I also reviewed several others including Le Petite Ferme, Reubens, Manna Epicure etc. Hope this helps someone!

one waterfront in capetown?
Hi there-
I was in Cape Town earlier this year (2008) and went to One Waterfront. It was one of the more memorable restaurants we'd eaten at in Cape Town and the Winelands.
I have a quick report on my blog with some photos of the food:
http://travelingchomps.blogspot.com/2008/09/one-waterfront-restaurant-review.html
I've also reviewed most of the restaurants I went to in Cape Town. I hope you will find this useful! I wish there was something like this out there when I was visiting the country:

Living in Cape Town for four months: where to eat?
Wembley Square has a bunch of cafes and restaurants which are great for lunch.

I've also reviewed a bunch of the restaurants in Cape Town where we ate on my blog. Hope it helps!

I'd skip most of the Waterfront restaurants.
Recommendations for solo dining in Cape Town, Winelands and Garden Route
This reply may be a little late but hopefully it will help other people who're looking for recommendations in Cape Town. I went to Reuben's and Le Petite Ferme in Franchoek and really enjoyed them both.
Mama Africa was nice and the band was good. When I was there they played local music not western influenced stuff. I second Manna Epicure. I also liked Cafe Paradiso and loved going to Vida E Caffe (Coffee chain). I also liked some of the chains we don't get in the US. Kauai had good breakfast and shakes.
I've reviewed a bunch of the Cape Town Restaurants I've been to on my blog with photos. Hope it helps!

South Africa - Capetown and Winelands Recs Needed
I loved Le Petite Ferme. The setting is gorgeous and the food was excellent. I've written an entry in my blog with some photos here. Thought I'd share since I couldn't find much info when I was researching for my trip. Hope this helps!

I also went to Cod Father in Camps Bay. It's pretty cool since you can pick your fish out from a glass case in the front of the restaurant. More picks below:

I also managed to hit up Reuben's which was I really liked too. Great food and reasonable prices.

Man I miss Cape Town!
Best Moqueca?
I like the mariscada better too. Maybe it's the coconut milk? Anyway it's delicious with a dash of the hot sauce they have at every table. Does anyone know what sauce that is?
French Macaroons in Greater Boston?
rlh: Now I know I wasn't the only one who thought that about Aroa's macarons. I haven't tried Laduree's though. How do they compare to Pierre Hermes?
anj: Perhaps give it another try? I've had the macarons there several times now and they've always been fresh.
Plum Island / Newburyport Food
Uh oh I now have to make an excuse to get out there and try the chocolate croissants! :)
Plum Island / Newburyport Food
This is not really lunch or dinner but I loved Annarosa's bakery in Newburyport for breakfast or to pack a mini picnic for the beach. They have an assortment of breads, croissants, brioche. I have a short review on my blog too.

Western suburbs of Boston
Thai Thai Kitchen in Newton center has decent thai food. It's more of a take out place but it has no frills seating too for a quick bite. I see alot of people dining there by themselves.
French Macaroons in Greater Boston?
Echoing some of the other posters. Burdick's has the best you can find in Boston. I didn't like the ones from Aroa.
I have some photos of the macaroons from Burdick's on my blog.

Also more macaroon photos and a review from Aroa

Looking for restaurant recommendations in the South End
How about Stella for Italian? I went there recently and thought the food there was very good (loved the pizza), there was also a wide selection of cocktails and lots of outdoor seating.
I have a short review on my blog with some photos. Hope it's helpful :) http://bostonchomps.blogspot.com/2008/07/stellar-stella.html
Shiki report (embarrassingly long)
Thanks for the detailed review. I'm a fan of Shiki though I've haven't tried all dishes you described. Will have to get them the next time! And hey neba neba stuff is yum ! ;-)
casual but really tasty in the larger Newton/Watertown/Brighton area?
La casa de pedro in Watertown. I recently discovered this restaurant. Really good food, a spacious patio for outdoor dining, sangrias, and I believe entrees are below $20. There's also a good variety of entrees, something for everyone.
I have some photos on my blog:
http://bostonchomps.blogspot.com/2006/06/la-casa-de-pedro-es-su-casa.html
Cafe Sol Azteca in Newton Center is also good for mexican. Has outdoor dining as well, but I would still choose Pedro's over it.
Eats in Framingham/Natick
Second Wanda's rec for Oga's
Also ...
- Welcome India on rt9 west. They have a lunch buffet and fresh naan! you can pick from onion, garlic, paneer, potato.....none of the other indian places in framingham offer that.
- Chennai Woodlands on 126 in ashland. South Indian buffet
- Dakshin in Framingham center (south indian). they also have authentic south indian fish dishes which i hear is rare around here.
- Aztec (Mexican) on 135 in framingham. Good for a lunch time margarita ;)
Puzzling experience at Christina's ice cream last night....
what I like about christina's is that the flavor's are more subtle than most places. the ice cream isn't too sweet but still creamy and I don't feel sick after eating the entire cup. probably not the place for people who like their ice cream really rich.
i recently had the avocado flavor and it was out of this world! corn and rose are next on my list!
Help with dinner in Natick
Don't know if you're up for Japanese but my favorite restaurant in natick is Oga's. imo it's the best japanese place in Boston and the focus is on the food. They serve more of 'traditional style' sushi and it's amazing. They also have a wide variety of appetizers and some entrees.
Definitely not a tourist trap. Prices are reasonable too.
You can see Oga's on a map here:
