Columbia SC to Pawleys Island

I have driven by this place for 30 years and this July I almost stopped. So this time I am going to stop. I grew up in a place with an old country store. Can't wait to see this one.

Columbia SC to Pawleys Island

Need a place for lunch and can't do Scott's. So any suggestions along this route. I cut over at Orangeburg and then over to Manning and take 521 in to Georgetown. Am I missing anything along the way that is chow worthy?

Fried Pies from the man in Kodak

There was a man in Kodak who made small fruit fried pies- but really baked them in a pizza oven. Theywere sold at Pratt's in Fountain City among other places. I know he recently sold his business. Anyone know if these pies are available anywhere?

Knoxville - Best Place for Drinks After Work

On Bearden Hill, near the intersection of Kingston Pike and Northshore , the view is terrific and they have a bar menu of small plates and martini specials - Bravo. Nice patio in good weather - maybe May before we have good weather again.

Knoxville Farmer's Market - Ice Cream Ice Cream, we all scream for Ice Cream

Wednesday and Saturday, there is a Farmer's Market on Market Square in downtown Knoxville. Cruze Farm brings their freshly churned ice cream. Flavors like buttermilk lemon and Lavender and strawberry. They raise the cows themselves and this ice cream is beyond delicious. Saturday mornings they have biscuits with butter and fresh jam or with eggs and sausage. They use their own buttermilk in the biscuits. Love that buttermilk for baking and drinking.

Brooklyn - one diiner - how do I decide

My scallops at Saul were outstanding. But, the Baked Alaska was too sweet even for me who seldom finds a sweet tea that is too sweet. Wish I had tried one of the other desserts

Brooklyn - one diiner - how do I decide

Decided on Saul. Just watched the Bobby Flay throwdown tonight with Saul and his baked alaska. Dressler was not possible because of my location and time constraints. May try to go to The Grocery for lunch one day also.

Brooklyn - one diiner - how do I decide

Saul, Grocery, Noodle Pudding, Applewood, Broklyn Fare. Which do I choose. I like most everything and price is not a concern for this dinner.

Bistro by the Tracks Knoxville

It's been a long time since Bistro was actually by the tracks but tonight they proved once again that they are not on the wrong side of the tracks. Lovely dinner and exceptional service. 6 of us - so we tried many things.Trout, lamb, grouper, filet - all served perfectly. The warm almost flourless chocolate cake was decadent. The lavender martinis were a taste of spring and summer to come.

Heading up I-75 to Danville; Where to Eat?

On the main street in Danville is a good sandwhich and salad place. Can't remember the name. Also down across from the historic park on the main street is an old fashioned bakery with all sort of baked goods and sandwiches. If you are coming through Knoxville, I recommend Puleo's at either Strawberry Plains exit on I 40 or Merchant's Road exit on I 75N. Wide variety of Italian and southern. Yes, sounds odd but it's a really good place.

Paris 7 Arond. - Rue de la Comete

We like to try new things and are not looking for high end, dress up sorts of places. But somewhere to get lunch or a nice dinner. Would like to be able to walk from the apartment. I suppose $30 to $40 per person for dinner. I'm not sure how prices will be in Paris.

Vegetarian-ish grub for road trip through Knoxville

Don't know if this is still true, but at one point in time Cracker Barrel cooked its veggies in lard - so that might not be a veggie option.

Vegetarian-ish grub for road trip through Knoxville

puleo's has several locations. One is just off the Interstate at Cedar Bluff and one is at the West Hills exit. Have them make their fried tomatoes and grits but leave off the Tasso Ham gravy. Also they have pasta dishes that would not have meat. It is local and they have about 5 locations. Interesting mix of southern and italian

Knoxville's best?

Wright's has been around forever. I am not a big meat eater so can't comment on all their meats. But their fried chicken is fantastic. They don't serve it on Friday. They do have salmon patties, country ham, baked and or fried fish, meat loaf. But I go for the chicken and the veggies and their homemade rolls. love their deviled eggs, fried okra, green beans, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes. Their pies are homemade and so is their banana pudding. Open for dinner on Thursday and not open on the weekends. I have tried Big Fatties and been disappointed every time.

Nashville Eats.. A 5 day visit to Nashville from an LA Chowhounder's perspective..

Are you sure the hush puppies were made from mashed potatoes? Never heard of that. They are made from corn meal, usually with a bit of chopped onion, and liquid, usually milk. The batter is thick and dropped in the hot oil. Just wondering if there is something new in hushpuppies? Thanks.

(Northerner Needs Tips) Knoxville v Ole Miss Nov 12-14

Litton's does have beer and wine. You just need to ask for it. Wine isn't all that good at Littons/ For a real barbecue experience, head West on middlebrook and look for M and M barbecue. They cook outside in the parking lot. No tables. Just eat beside your car or take it with you. Have several sides and usually do a fish fry on the weekends. Not open on Sunday. I have family in NYC and they love to go to Puleo's. There are 4 locations in the Knoxville area. Long's drugstore on Kingston Pike in the Bearden area is a Saturday morning breakfast place. It is a Drug store with an old fashioned soda fountain area. Pancakes, eggs, etc. Love their pimento cheese sandwiches. Downtown on Gay Street or around the corner on Market Square are pubs and breweries where people will be watching games. My favorite Southern lunch places are not open on Saturday or Sunday. Enjoy your trip, ya'll

UT Football game and a dinner

S and W is downtown. Many years ago was a cafeteria. Was closed for years. Recently reopened as an upscale restaurant. Have heard good things about it. Also Bistro at the Bijou is downtown on Gay Street. Smallish and will probably be packed. Chez Liberte on Kingston Pike in Bearden is new and good, also expensive. Everything is packed after a football game. Puleo's is also on Morrell Road across from West Town Mall. All their locations are excellent. Copper Cellar/Cappucion's on Kingston Pike near West Town Mall can handle 12. Good Luck.
