Redpop is one of the worst flavors ever invented. It makes cough syrup taste good in comparison.

Hot Trend: Inventive Mole

When my sister was a toddler she ate a bunch of Play-Doh and then vomited it all over her pillow. It looked like an only slightly thicker version of whatever that horrid sauce up there is.

Can You Eat the Rind on Brie?

The first time I tasted the rind on a brie I instantly regretted ever throwing it out. So good! On some bries it's the best part.

Can Chocolate Help You Stay Thin?

They presented this really poorly on the new radio station here. First they said people who eat more chocolate may be thinner...but that's not at all what the report said. My reaction was something like 'So...people who eat more *less* chocolate are thinner. Hmm.' I hate the way they report things like this in the media. All this really tells you is that people who can control their cravings and only indulge a little are thinner. Wow...I'd never have guessed!

Do Food Freaks Have Pickier Kids?

My parents used to just tell me to try stuff, even if I insisted I didn't like it, and it mostly worked. Same with my sister. I'm actually a pickier eater now than I was as a kid, in some ways. I won't go near mussels now, and I used to love them.

They did trick me a few times. We once had "bird" for dinner, because they thought (rightly) that their four-year-old would be upset about eating a duck. I loved it and had seconds. Broccoli and cauliflower were "green trees and snow trees"...and I loved both. They often wouldn't tell me what something was until I'd tasted it. I think curiosity got me to try plenty of things that I would have rejected by name alone.

So pad thai? Call it "noodles" and I think most kids would at least try it....but have something else around just in case.

Special K Goes Beyond '80s Cereal

For being almost the same product, PopChips taste much better and have a better texture. They're also slightly lower in calories and sodium, significantly lower in carbs, and about the same in everything else. They do have less fiber, but that's the only downside. Cost less too, in my experience...especially if you get the Trader Joe's 'knock-off'.

Christmas Candy Time Machine

I think old-fashioned candy is only weird if you didn't grow up with it. I live near the outskirts of the PA Dutch country, so flavors go way beyond clove and wintergreen. You can find horehound, teaberry, sarsaparilla, anise, ginger, etc in various candy forms in Lancaster. I grew up with the flavors and textures of old timey candy right along with my AstroPops and sour straws. I've never been sure which I prefer.

Baking with Sugar Substitutes

If you use a fruit sauce (apple, prune, etc) as a fat substitute it also helps with sweetness. It doesn't work for cookies, obviously, but it makes great quickbreads.

Ordinary cursing is everywhere. It's already lost its punch. I like to mix it up with a dirty word/funny word combo. F***bucket or c***trumpet, things like that. Weasel, hose, monkey, canoe, basket, etc...they all make great suffixes for dirty words.

Pumpkin-Flavored White Russian—Why Not?

Not having tried this I can't be sure what you'd add to make a white russian...but my guess is vanilla vodka. Whipped cream vodka if you wanna be cute about it. Coffee liqueur wouldn't 'fit', I'm guessing, and this looks like it's already got the cream.

For a good alternative black russian try nearly equal (slightly heavier on the vodka for a cocktail, equal for a shot) parts kahlua, amaretto, and vanilla vodka.
