The Village Butcher carries an assortment of fish if you are looking for a place you can walk to.
Otherwise, try Mike's Fish Market near Ikea -

http://maps.google.ca/places/ca/toron...

- It is attached to Allseas, one of the largest seafood purveyors in the GTA.

New Caribbean Sports bar near St Lawrence market

Has anyone tried the new Caribbean sports bar on lower jarvis by the St. Lawrence market?

Sorry I can't remember the name right now but it is in the spot that I believe used to be a golden griddle just south of the market with the red awnings on the east side (not the corner lounge on 'upper' Jarvis at front). Or if you know the name please let me know so I can search for reviews.

Thanks.

Long Branch, New Toronto, Mimico Restaurants & Food Shops

My wife and I have been to and gotten take-out from Freshwood many times (we live in New Toronto). We've never had bugers but have found the food to be the best available in NT, LB, and Mimico. Next time try one of the wraps, our favorite being the Cuban, the sourdough wraps they make are fabulous. Overall enjoy the place, just wish it was in New Toronto instead!

Regarding previous posts on Konrads and the Jade elephant. I agree, stay away from Konrads. As for Jade Elephant, is it even still open? I've never eaten there but don't desire eating in a place full of used/dirty couches and only a microwave to cook food. Why would anyone want to go out specifically for food cooked in a microwave? We don't even have one in our house for that reason among others.

best ice cream & milkshakes in the gta...

Try Sweet Olenka's in Lakeshore in Etobicoke - 2834 Lake Shore Boulevard West
Etobicoke, ON. Their website appears to be under construction. All the ice cream is made in house - my favourite(s) banana cream pie and creme brulee.

For those of you asking how the pricing works? It really doesn't. I've been a few times and have paid different amounts for the same products. I guess the best you could call it is "Market Pricing" but it doesn't really appear to follow the market. He just prices it at what he wants and you pay! Food is good though...

In Midtown One Night - Reco's with Open Budget

Hi, sorry for the short notice, my wife and I will be in Midtown staying on 45 st. between 5th and 6th THIS Saturday. We have never stayed in NY and would like advice for a nice restaurant. No restrictions on budget, but I would guess with the short notice we would not get into the best places.

We like all types of food and would like something a little bit 'unique'. We are from a landlocked part of Canada so would prefer somewhere with fresh seafood.

Somewhere that has a lot of craft or micro beers would also be nice.

Thanks!

Bombay on the lake has new owners. They purchased the place shortly before my last post. Have eaten and ordered there quite a few times since then. Food quality is good now, service is consistent as well as the new owners are very pleasent. If you were turned off from previous experiences as I know some have and have seen from other diners in the past, it is worth going back to try again. Good luck

Prohibition/Booze Emporium Review

Want good Gastropub? The Dizzy on Roncevalles. I believe there are new owners now and the food was amazing. Been a couple of times now, probably the best wings (I know) I've had in TO to date. More of a "sports bar" but amazing food.

Al Lago in Etobicoke?

Quite good and a very fun atmosphere. A group of four of us (plus one child) went and he is a very friendly man + excellent chef. Kid enjoyed it as well as he made exactly what was requested.
IT's worth a try, we will be going back again.

Pizza - Pizzaiolo
Thai - Siam Princess - formerly cozy thai
Butcher - the new village butcher is great
Italian/seafood - al lago in longbranch

Have not tried the angry chef yet, Bombay by the lake is extremely hit and miss, just depends on what chef the guy is able to get to work that night.

Lobster roll

Does anyone know where to find a good lobster roll in western New Hampshire or Eastern Vermont? Somewhere north of Lebanon area would be best. We are visiting from central Canada (land locked) so even a place with a decent roll would be amazing to us.

Thanks.

Central/East Vermont and West NH

Hi, looking for some help. My wife and I will be staying in East Ryegate for a week and am looking for suggestions for all meals of the day. From browsing some old posts it looks like elements is a place to hit, any other suggestions would be appreciated. We are planning on doing a few day trips away shopping, so places within a short drive would also work. (Non tourist antique shops near excellent dining would also be appreciated.)

Thanks.

where is the best fish and chips in Toronto/GTA??

Try New Toronto fish and chips on fifth st. in etobicoke just north of Lakeshore blvd east of islington. A friend of mine works for GFS and says they are the largest purchaser of halibut in Ontario for GFS - high volume it must be good.

I found out the scoop on the Bombay by the lake from the guys at pizzaiolo. The good chef was only there for a week or so then the owner fired him because he was too slow. It's a tough call, his food was amazing and much better than the current guy, but he was very slow.

Looking for spectacular private event location in a restaurant for 100

The best event place I've ever been to in the GTA is the academy of spherical arts. They have a website, check it out.

Food at the pump is over rated. Nothing special and very plain. 5 years ago it was good, but nothing has changed inside or out. Still good atmosphere though.

I have been to Falafel royal, the food was good, nothing to complain about. I haven't had much Lebanese food, so I'm not sure if it's authentic. It's worth a try.

Value for dollar in Vancouver

I know this is planning ahead, but you normally have to plan this far in advance for good places on new years. We will be in Vancouver for new years and are looking for advice as to the best restaurant for its value in Vancouver. It doesn't have to be cheap, anywhere up to about $30 or $35 per plate. Somewhere we could hang out after dinner for some drinks would also be nice.

Anywhere Kits area south up to North Van and maybe east to Commercial area would be ideal.

Thanks in advance.

Need Stag Restaurant Recco near 400/7 Interchange

I know of and have only eaten at one place up there that is not a chain. Don't let the name throw you, it has excellent food and atmosphere. If you call ahead, they also own the place next door, which is called "the place next door" and it is more of a lounge type concept and depending on the size of your party you may be able to book that place. The restaurant is The ice cream patio, it's just south of hwy 7 off Weston at the first lights - the address is 149 Rowntree Dairy Rd, they do have a website, i've seen it before, but cannont find the webpage right now. Check it out

restaurants in etobicoke

That's good to hear that they can be quick when not busy. We went by again this past Saturday night with another couple, dinner took just over 2.5 hours! Slow once again, but we did enjoy the food, as did another couple that were there drinking. But the other couple that was not drinking while we were there were not impressed.

Hopefully they will get the hang of it, we need more restauants like this in the neighborhood.

Note on the old polish village. I have heard that the guy who was building the french bistro there could not get his liquor license because of the zoning by-laws not allowing a license in a place that small??? The government sure isn't helping turn the neighborhood around if they won't allow someone to put a nice restaurant in a building that formerly had a liquor license, we need more nice stores and restaurants in the neighborhood to help it continue to turn around. (As opposed to another dollar store or cash mart). Not happy about that one.
