Food Trucks 2014

Dic Ann's is adding a second Dic Ann's food truck debuting this spring for events & festivals. This year there will be more Montreal food trucks operating(maybe 10 more than last year).

Saka-Ba!

Are you sure you went to Saka-Ba on Wednesday? I was told, they're closed on Wednesdays(I tried to go today, but they're closed).

Piazza Tomasso's "Pizza Plus"

You're talking about the frozen food business(Piazza Tomasso pizzas)? DaVinci Foods is also originally a spinoff of a Montreal Italian restaurant/pizzeria.

Piazza Tomasso's "Pizza Plus"

The restaurant is not still around. Closed more than 20 years ago. That's a spin-off(frozen food business). Don't know if any of the family members are still involved in this operation.

Any exceptional Montreal South shore restaurants?

Did you inquire if they're closing soon? It's now March. I'd asked them more than once(not the owner), who insisted they're not closing anytime soon. The $23,95 chicken rice is one of the specials, that's only written in Chinese(heads up for people looking for it).

Saka-Ba!

It's still a soft opening. I'm guessing they're still experimenting with their menu.

That weird pan asian place, is owned by the Harmonie Bakery at last notice(I ate there once just to try their Hainanese chicken rice).

Afterwards posting I realized it's their Hainanese chicken rice. There's a picture of it on their Facebook page. The dish is enough for two people.

I'll check it out. If it was $23-28 that's outrageously expensive for Haikkan chicken rice dish. This dish would be listed on their full menu? It's not listed on their condensed menu that I have already.

Not saying your information is incorrect with Papa Jackie. Was just saying what they told me, when I inquired there.

Jing Hua partners were not the original owners of the restaurant? I remembered they switch to new owners about 3 years ago?

I asked Papa Jackie today, & was told they're "NO" plans to close anytime soon. Is it reliable source that's telling you they're closing soon?

Jing Hua restaurant just closed? Checked them out today, On their door, it says they're closed for 5 days for renovations. For dim sum & dinner I prefered Jing Hua over Maison Kam Fung Brossard.

OK. I didn't know about their Facebook page until two days ago(only discovered from link above). I have their take-out menu for years but it's limited to what they list(some of the food on their Facebook page I didn't know they served it).

Anything else you have liked at Papa Jackie? Been reluctant to eat there for years, as I'm thinking the best stuff there is only listed on their Chinese menu or written in Chinese on their walls(or not listed at all).

Palais Imperial (Chinese food oasis in the West Island desert)

When they first opened I think they already had a tasting type all you can eat menu. So they have continued that.

Their dishes are not too sweet(eg. black bean fish & black pepper chicken)? I find with tasting Canadian-Chinese dishes in Montreal aimed for non-Asian clientele, it's often too sweet for me.

Szechuan restos with style

So it was non-spicy & awful at L'Orchidee de Chine? If it's simply non-spicy, I assume you can asked them to spice it up more. Why is it so sucessfull all these years & favourite with some Montreal restaurant critics?

Montreal Chinese Roast BBQ establishments

It seems to be standard practise at all Montreal Chinese Roast BBQ establishments, the duck juice in cup is not included with Chinese Roast Duck, unless you ask. The other stuff, not sure it relates to what we're discussing.

Yes, I'm talking "authentic" Peking Duck as opposed to Cantonese Roast duck(or Chinese Roast duck) normally sold at the Chinese Roast BBQ shops. It's a different preparation to make it.

Montreal Chinese Roast BBQ establishments

Do you they make their own Peking Ducks roasted by themselves(either on-site, or dedicated Chinese roasting BBQ location)? And do they sell the Peking Duck just by itself(not the extra cost for other stuff), like I would get just Chinese roast duck at Chinese Roast BBQ establishments?

Montreal Chinese Roast BBQ establishments

Guess where we went yesterday, & got their Chinese roast duck, & they "didn't" include the little cup of duck juice(normally we ask for the duck juice, when we get Chinese roast duck but we forgot this time). Yep the same place you mention here(the one at base of Swatow building, that's associated with Crystal restaurant upstairs). That's what partly inspired me to pose the questions here regarding Chinese Roast BBQ shops in this city.

Montreal Chinese Roast BBQ establishments

Regarding Montreal Chinese roast BBQ establishments. Which is currently the best IYO? For whole chicken & whole duck, what's available at some Chinese roast BBQ establishment besides Chinese roast duck? I'm aware some offer salted chicken, soy chicken, pressed duck, PEI Pa duck(is that a kind of pressed roasted duck?). What else is there for whole chickens & whole ducks?

Are there any Chinese roast BBQ establishments in Montreal that offer Peking Duck for takeout(maybe you can do it if you pre-order in advance)? Is it standard practise for when ordering Chinese roast duck at these establishments to not automatically get the duck juices in the little cup(I've always have had to asked for it, to get it included).
