Sams Flaming Grill

Since I'm in the unusual position of actually both living and working in Moorpark, I'm really interested in this, and hopeful that it's decent (we don't have other kabob places in Moorpark). It's going in to a former Daphne's location. Note that I said "former." If they couldn't make it here, can Sam? Why or why not?

Oh, and Tripeler, that was hilarious!

Lunch in Camarillo, and an afternoon snack/early dinner between there and LAX?

Forgot about a couple for lunch in Camarillo:

Zzyzx Café - on Lewis Road, just around the corner from Establos Meat Market - kind of eclectic

And of course, the Waypoint Café at Camarillo Airport

As for the lunch in Camarillo: One of the earlier posts suggests Wood Ranch. That's always safe, but it is a chain; another BBQ place in the area is Bandits (local mini chain; one in Camarillo, one in Thousand Oaks). Also along Ventura Blvd, which is kind of an "old town" is Ola's, which is a hole-in-the-wall, order-at-the-counter Mexican place with a surfer theme - large portions. There's also a decent Mongolian BBQ place on Ventura Blvd, can't remember the name.

Thousand Oaks

You said you know lots of places to eat on the way. Since you don't want a heavy dinner, what kind of food would you like? Where would you stop on the way?

Moorpark?

Gems? For 10 year old boys?

I agree with Simihound; In 'n out is popular with the teams. Also Carrarra's now has homemade gelato in addition to the pastries. And pizza places suitable for soccer teams are Lamppost, Round Table and Me n Eds.

Any Good Eats in CAMARILLO?

Oh, and if you go for lunch on Wednesdays, I think they still have their tri-tip sandwich lunch special.

We had Belgian Waffles and fruit. French toast looked good too.

Any Good Eats in CAMARILLO?

Oh, come to think of it, also had good breakfasts and lunch at Zzyzx Cafe on Lewis. A little pricey and eclectic, but good.

There's a decent Mongolian BBQ place on Ventura Blvd in Old Town Camarillo as well.

And Bandits used to be good as an alternative to Wood Ranch.

Fast mexican food - check out Ola's, also in old town - huge portions.

Any Good Eats in CAMARILLO?

We had a surprisingly good breakfast at the Waypoint recently. They've upped their game considerably since they changed a hands a few years back. Get there early, they're crowded (at least on weekends).

Dining Well in Camarillo or "Lure Fish House"

Ate at Lure once. Solid seafood restaurant, but didn't blow us away. Can be a long wait for a table, not sure if they take reservations. That said, there's not a lot of really nice stuff in Camarillo. Haven't been there in a while, but Aloha Steakhouse on Santa Rosa was pretty good, and it's not far from Leisure Village, so you'll get an older crowd there.

Serious Burger Find in Agoura (of all places?)

Have been meaning to try the Ranch, thanks for the reminder. I think it's actually considered Westlake Village where it is.

As for Agoura Deli, it's okay, but not great. If you've been to Country Deli in Chatsworth or Pickles Deli in Newbury Park, it's the same---same owner. And Agoura Deli once tried to overcharge me, and wasn't even apologetic about it when I showed them the error. Stick with Brents, also in Westlake.

Rec's for Group in THOUSAND OAKS Sun Jan 15

sablouwho - the Oaks mall is no more than 5-10 minutes west of the Civic Arts Plaza on T.O. Blvd. (about 2 minutes further west than TOI). It'll take most of your time finding your way from the parking lot to the restaurant in the Nordstrom's. I certainly understand the hesitation about going to a mall restaurant, just thought it would be good since it looked like you wanted small plates....

Kid Friendly lunch near Getty Malibu

For future reference, the food and service at Gladstones has really gone downhill in my book in the past several years. And I really don't think it's kid friendly when you have to wait 30 or 45 or 60 minutes for a table...

Rec's for Group in THOUSAND OAKS Sun Jan 15

It sounds like you really want a tapas place, but the reviews for TOI haven't been too good (I haven't been there). Surprisingly, we've had pretty good luck at the tapas place in Nordstrom (Blue Oven or some such name) at the Oaks mall. That said, I'm a little concerned about the size of your group...

Costa Mesa Restaurant Week

Didn't know it was Restaurant Week when we went to try Mastro's for the first time. They had a special menu for the week, which was (relatively speaking) a good deal. In addition to the items on the published menu, they had a 10-ounce ribeye that was excellent. Prix fixe menu included appetizer (soup or salad), two individual size sides and a choice of 2 desserts. No substitutions on those other things, but it was in the $40s for the whole thing, whereas that can be the price of a steak alone....and the food really was excellent.

Fosselman's Ice Cream

For whatever reason, I've never been terribly fond of most gelato, so if someone were to suggest a gelato place when i ask about ice cream, I probably would be one of those annoying creatures that would object. But what I *really* object to is suggestions for frozen yogurt......or, as I call it, ice cream with bacteria.

help with lunch in Chatworth please

From the June 18 Ventura County Star:
"IN TRANSITION: After nearly a year of increasingly persistent rumors, it's official: Roxy's Famous Deli in Thousand Oaks will close on June 26, according to notes seen taped this week to the eatery's host station and now-empty deli case. "After 20 very successful years ... we have lost our lease," reads the note signed by owner Constantino "Dino" Papanicolaou, who in the same note invites patrons to try his newly opened Napa Grill at Westlake and Thousand Oaks boulevards. Meanwhile, rumors already have started about the restaurant in line for the Roxy's site. Described variously as a gastro pub or an "American" place, it has an anticipated fall opening date."

Best Local Type Chains in Burbank/Santa Monica/Oxnard/Ventura Areas?

Okay, if you're looking for a "local" chain in Ventura County, I would suggest either Bandits BBQ (Thousand Oaks, Camarillo), or Toppers Pizza (locations countywide). Wood Ranch BBQ is another good SoCal chain.

Haven't been to that one. My understanding is that they have different ownership than the one on Tampa, by the way. Also, they had a "B" in the window for a while, so I kind of shied away....
