Serious Burger Find in Agoura (of all places?)
Have been meaning to try the Ranch, thanks for the reminder. I think it's actually considered Westlake Village where it is.
As for Agoura Deli, it's okay, but not great. If you've been to Country Deli in Chatsworth or Pickles Deli in Newbury Park, it's the same---same owner. And Agoura Deli once tried to overcharge me, and wasn't even apologetic about it when I showed them the error. Stick with Brents, also in Westlake.
Rec's for Group in THOUSAND OAKS Sun Jan 15
sablouwho - the Oaks mall is no more than 5-10 minutes west of the Civic Arts Plaza on T.O. Blvd. (about 2 minutes further west than TOI). It'll take most of your time finding your way from the parking lot to the restaurant in the Nordstrom's. I certainly understand the hesitation about going to a mall restaurant, just thought it would be good since it looked like you wanted small plates....
Kid Friendly lunch near Getty Malibu
For future reference, the food and service at Gladstones has really gone downhill in my book in the past several years. And I really don't think it's kid friendly when you have to wait 30 or 45 or 60 minutes for a table...
Rec's for Group in THOUSAND OAKS Sun Jan 15
It sounds like you really want a tapas place, but the reviews for TOI haven't been too good (I haven't been there). Surprisingly, we've had pretty good luck at the tapas place in Nordstrom (Blue Oven or some such name) at the Oaks mall. That said, I'm a little concerned about the size of your group...
Dr. Brown 2 liter diet cream soda
Saw a pretty big bottle (not sure if it was a full 2 liter) at Bristol Farms in Westlake Village.
Looking for a baking/cooking class in Eugene, OR
Check with Marche - I believe they used to have occasional classes (could be wrong, haven't been in Eugene in a while).
Costa Mesa Restaurant Week
Didn't know it was Restaurant Week when we went to try Mastro's for the first time. They had a special menu for the week, which was (relatively speaking) a good deal. In addition to the items on the published menu, they had a 10-ounce ribeye that was excellent. Prix fixe menu included appetizer (soup or salad), two individual size sides and a choice of 2 desserts. No substitutions on those other things, but it was in the $40s for the whole thing, whereas that can be the price of a steak alone....and the food really was excellent.
Fosselman's Ice Cream
For whatever reason, I've never been terribly fond of most gelato, so if someone were to suggest a gelato place when i ask about ice cream, I probably would be one of those annoying creatures that would object. But what I *really* object to is suggestions for frozen yogurt......or, as I call it, ice cream with bacteria.
Jury duty lunch in Ventura?
Serving jury duty tomorrow at Ventura Courthouse. What's good for lunch around there?
Best Local Type Chains in Burbank/Santa Monica/Oxnard/Ventura Areas?
Or Yolanda's for Mexican. Or Brents Deli (Westlake, Northridge).
help with lunch in Chatworth please
From the June 18 Ventura County Star:
"IN TRANSITION: After nearly a year of increasingly persistent rumors, it's official: Roxy's Famous Deli in Thousand Oaks will close on June 26, according to notes seen taped this week to the eatery's host station and now-empty deli case. "After 20 very successful years ... we have lost our lease," reads the note signed by owner Constantino "Dino" Papanicolaou, who in the same note invites patrons to try his newly opened Napa Grill at Westlake and Thousand Oaks boulevards. Meanwhile, rumors already have started about the restaurant in line for the Roxy's site. Described variously as a gastro pub or an "American" place, it has an anticipated fall opening date."

Yup, same Ottavios. But the Westlake location didn't last too long.
Best Local Type Chains in Burbank/Santa Monica/Oxnard/Ventura Areas?
Okay, if you're looking for a "local" chain in Ventura County, I would suggest either Bandits BBQ (Thousand Oaks, Camarillo), or Toppers Pizza (locations countywide). Wood Ranch BBQ is another good SoCal chain.

Haven't been to that one. My understanding is that they have different ownership than the one on Tampa, by the way. Also, they had a "B" in the window for a while, so I kind of shied away....

Brents Deli is on Parthenia, near Corbin, technically in Northridge. Also in Northridge I'll occasionally meet people at Wood Ranch BBQ or Rosie's. But I'm watching this thread carefully - I've been working in Chatsworth for over two years now, and still have trouble with this.
Belgian Waffles?
To my surprise, just in the past couple of weeks, found Liege waffles at Jamba Juice and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf in Thousand Oaks! Maybe their other locations are now carrying them too? Similar to what we've found at Le Pain Quotidien.
Pup 'N Taco Fries
Yup, almost all bought by Taco Bell. From Wikipedia: "Ninety-nine stores were bought by Taco Bell in 1984, effectively ending the history of the chain. However, three operations in Albuquerque, New Mexico, were not included in the deal and two still exist today as Pop 'N' Taco, the same as in Los Angeles."
So if you want to travel to Albuquerque....
Does anyone know of this type of deep-fried hot dog?
Ok, but
1. HDOS does offer a hot dog on a bun (see http://www.hotdogonastick.com/menu.aspx); has anyone asked them if they would dip this in their batter? And
2. Even if not, you can put ketchup and/or mustard on the battered stick (see picture at site above), so the only thing that would take some creativity would be how to get onions or whatever else to 'stick.'
Even in a bun (not exactly hermetically sealed), how would you prevent the condiments from coming out (and contaminating the batter, for that matter) when you dip it?
Does anyone know of this type of deep-fried hot dog?
Sounds kind of like the whole "hot dog on a stick" chain except that they don't have a bun. Then again, if your'e dipping the hot dog in batter, what do you need a bun for?
Five Guys Burgers (Los Angeles) - New locations Planned?
And you know there's been one in Thousand Oaks for a few months now. As for the In-n-Out comparisons, INO is a far better value. But they are different types of burgers, so it's a matter of personal taste.
Chick Fil A Coming to Northridge!
Really? In the same center as In-n-Out?? Wow. As for CFA, I used to occasionally enjoy the one up in Oxnard, when I worked up there, so I'm looking forward to one in Northridge (near where I work now). It's not that it's anything all that special - it's a chicken sandwich, for cryin' out loud, but it does taste pretty good, and I've always had good service - at least in Oxnard.
Violet Crumbles
There's a (small but growing) chain of stores called Rocket Fizz - started in Ventura county but has been growing and now has a store in Sherman Oaks.
Anyway, they're primarily a store for hard-to-find soda *and candy*, and I discovered at the Simi Valley store last weekend that they carry *both* Violet Crumbles and Crunchie bars. Buy 'em both. Pick which one you like better!

Anything good to eat in Thousand Oaks?
I don't usually go for Tapas, but jackattack's suggestion of Blue Stove was good. Should note it's in Nordstrom at the Oaks Mall. I'm not familiar with the Mexican places he suggested (we usually go to Yolanda's in Simi), but he's bang on with Topper's pizza. Well known as the best in Ventura County. Stonefire is a pretty good local chain for family-style tri tip, salads, chicken, etc. CLU students seem to hang out a lot at BJ's, but not my fave. Add to the list:
Barbecue: Bandits
Deli: Brent's Deli (Westlake Village)
Chinese: Lakeview Garden (Westlake Village)

RESTAURANTS OPEN ON XMAS DAY??? (Its my Birthday)
No specific recommendations, but if you happen to enjoy any hotel restaurants (i know, not usually), they are likely to be open. Travelers still have to eat. A call is always a good idea, though. We usually do find ourselves at a Chinese restaurant (traditional Jewish Christmas - movie and Chinese food), but like raytamsgv pointed out, call first.
Anniversary dinner tonight - Calabasas or Agoura
We need a nice place for dinner for our anniversary tonight, in the Calabasas or Agoura area. Unfortunately, we don't have a tremendous amount of time, but we do have a little over an hour without our kid. Where can we just relax for a little while and enjoy a good meal together? Thanks.
A Chili Burger in the Valley
I've had surprisingly good chili sizes at Bob's Big Boy in Northridge
