Downtown Recommendations

You described Parkside - downtown, great food, awesome happy hour

Speaking frankly about Frank

I go to Frank for the coffee...

solo dining/take out options near Lavaca and 6th downtown?

I have to second the recommendation of Frank - just a really cool place and perfect for solo dining. They also have some of the best coffee in town.

Live Oak Barbecue in East Austin

I went to Live Oak a couple weeks ago. I also found the brisket to be very dry and over-smoked - I was tasting the smoke for the next 24 hours. I did enjoy the sausage, but was not a fan of the "sauce". We had the same experience with no tray - their whole ordering and serving process is extremely awkward to say the least.

Additionally, one of the staff kept opening the smoker - the interior ventilation is extremely poor and my clothes and hair soaked in the smoke flavor that I couldn't shake the rest of the day.

Drinking, Eating and Watching the World Cup in Austin, Texas 2010

The offsides call was the correct call - you must have two defenders behind you - the goalie essentially pulled them offsides.

In-n-Out Burger is Coming to Texas!

everybody wants what they can't have...

Baguette et Chocolat open?

I went this past weekend and had a great cappuccino and pain au chocolat - both were outstanding, very happy to have this establishment in my 'hood.

Hard Hat Report Vol 5

There is a Gumbo's going in next to Best Buy in the 620/71 area.

Also a sign for Los Cucos in old El Arroyo space at Bee Caves and 71.

Can't decide on which TX TOP 5 BBQ joints to go? This might help a little...

I just trekked to Louie Mueller's on Monday for the first time - I had the brisket sandwich (moist) - it was melt in your mouth goodness.

Places that are Popular to Hate

I do enjoy my chicka chicka boom boom...

Places that are Popular to Hate

I enjoy both places, they are simply places that many of the chowhounds on this board love to hate.

Desserts in Austin

I second the peanut butter semi freddo at Uchi - unreal.

Fabi and Rosi Report

Have to agree with SWH, if we are going to be critical, I could do without much of the creative writing in many of scrumptious' posts...

Al Pastor on Riverside - Overrated

We ate at the Al Pastor restaurant and it was very meh for me. After all the raves on this board, it was incredibly disappointing.

Disappointed in Moonshine brunch

I believe they meant "pesto".

New South 1st Trailer - Cake balls?

Couldn't agree more on the undercooked glob of mess, I'll stick to cupcakes at Sugar Mamas...

Thanksgiving:Who Ate What and Where?

We dined at the four seasons, which was pretty good, but definitely did not live up to the price tag ($68/person). I would go back for something more in the range of $40/person, but at their current prices, no thanks.

In Austin for a Wedding this weekend, need some Chowish recs

Anybody try this place yet?

Casino El Camino

After watching Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives last night, my mouth was seriously watering during the Casino El Camino segment.

I searched the board and find mention of Casino in many threads, but didn't find one dedicated to it.

I have never been, but will definitely be making a visit shortly. What do you guys think? Does it live up to the hype as one of the best burgers in Austin?

Best Duck in Austin?

It was our first trip to Hot and Hot - but everyone's food was outstanding. Chris Hastings is still the chef.

Best Duck in Austin?

I have only recently discovered how much I really love duck when prepared well.

Recently I traveled to Birmingham, AL where I dined at Hot and Hot Fish Club where I had an excellent duck entree:

Oven Roasted Duck Breast and Crispy Confit with Dirty Rice, Haricot Vert, and Red Eye Gravy

What restaurants in Austin do excellent duck?

(I'm actually salivating as I type)
