The new hipsters in the Plateau-- L'Gros Luxe and Majestique

Finally got around to trying this place. Went to the new Bernard location. We ordered Avocado fries, Fish burger, beef burger and beet salad. Gotta say I was disappointed with everything I ordered except the avocado fries which were somewhat interesting, but was just battered and fried slices of avocado with a spicy aoili on the side. The beef burger's bread to meat ratio was way off, the fish burger just tasted like Lime juice and the beet salad was the worst of its kind that Ive ever had. Was so bland , had almost no seasoning. Nothing was expensive so I cant complain.. I should of probably ordered some of the tacos which looked better but I've been going to impactaco on Wednesdays for their 1$ tacos and having over 10 at a time so Im just sick of tacos now. Id maybe go back one more time and give it another try but first impression was not great.. Wonder if the other location is any better perhaps?

best ethiopian?

East Africa on Sherbrooke is pretty good but the service is really slow..

Belle et Boeuf

Ya this place doesnt interest me one bit. We didnt need another overpriced burger place.

You can probably achieve a very decent naan bread by cooking it fresh in a really hot oven on a pizza stone if you dont have room for a tandoor oven. The ready made naan bread is quite disappointing.. Otherwise you guys are doing a good job!

ISO Pistachio Ice Cream

Funny you say that , I actually thought the same thing when I ate the bo-bec one, tasted alot like almond extract..

Tried it out 2 days in a row. First day I had this tomato based curry , cant remember what it was called. While it wasnt bad, it tasted alot like canned tomato sauce that wasnt cooked down quite enough. It also came with a Dal soup which had a spice in there which I wasnt so familiar with, which was interesting but not the best ive had. And a pickle of some sort that I found to be extremely salty, but I generally dont love indian pickles... The naan bread may have been one of the saddest Ive ever had, they clearly dont have a tandoor oven. Everything was edible though and the price was very reasonable, so I was intrigued to try it again the next night. This time I had the butter chicken and it was pretty good! On par with some of the better ones Ive had, only downfall for me was that it was white meat, but I still enjoyed it. Their rice is well done also. I would return and try more things from the menu, its definetly better than Thali, and a good local cheap late night option for me.

ISO Pistachio Ice Cream

Bo-Bec is actually my go to place usually. I just wasnt too impressed by the pistachio one. Really like their vanilla though. I remember having a coaticook one years ago and thinking it was ok but I cant find it anywhere!

ISO Pistachio Ice Cream

Im looking for the best pistachio ice cream, preferably with actual pistachio's in it. I tried some at bo-bec and was underwhelmed. Any ideas?

Hope they serve fresh Hoddeok!

Student Tasty Biryani

Oh great! cant wait to try it, Dev is also my go to place outside all those other places on jean talon est (which are too far to go to often) So do they only serve different biryani's or they have other dishes as well? I've been to Thali twice and was pretty disappointed both times although many people like it , I just dont see why. Will report back when I try this place

Jimmy Guaco's

Tried it last night and I enjoyed it! Had a small Jimmy G Burrito ( beef and chorizo) Couldnt believe the amount of toppings the offer you, had atleast 12-15 on there which is nuts but I like it. It was a little stuffed but still found to be enjoyable. The choice of meats didnt look as appetizing as burrito shops does but tasted fine. I will return and try more of their offerings soon for sure.

Food Trucks 2014

Wow this year has really been a disappointment for me , even more than last year! Every time I try to go to one I either cant find it or they aren't even there! And the ones I did find werent as good as last year. I had the Duck salad sandwich at Super truck which I really enjoyed last year, but this time there was absolutely no meat in it! And today I tried au pied du cochon which was my favorite one last year, but this year they took away the sandwich and the duck legs and replaced it with basically a hot dog and some fried pork ears. WIll not be returning as neither was impressive. Instead of improving them I feel like they have taken a step backwards.. Any other ones worth trying ??

BBQ Sud Ouest corner of Notre Dame & Greene

Had it again tonight and those sauces are really gross.. They really need to start making their own, all I can taste is sugar or actually probably corn syrup. Pretty nasty...

BBQ Sud Ouest corner of Notre Dame & Greene

Main complaint about this place are those sauces they use. First of all they are store bought and they display that on top of it, and second of all they are overly sweet imo. The potatoes could also be a little better. Otherwise for the price its really not bad and one of the better options in st henri. First time around I got the rib sandwich, and the second time I got a pulled pork sandwich. Both not bad but tasted very similar. Its not the best place but a nice addition to the neighbourhood Id say.

Hole in the wall inside Kam Fung mall

Ive been several times. Its not as small as you think, there are atleast 10 tables or more. The prices are soo cheap its crazy, and the food is not bad. I usually get the bbq pork on rice, or sometimes this soup with bbq pork and yellow noodles, both are about 5$.

Moonshine BBQ

This is what happens to all these BBQ places I find, they start off strong, then get lazy and start taking shortcuts and the food suffers!

Green Papayas, where to find

They have them in chinatown.. Check the markets there, like Marche Pap Pap possibly

Heading to Bundang South korea, any suggestions??

Im going for over a month, need some good suggestions to eat around there or seoul area please!

Korean food update

Ive been to many of them and Hwang Kum is the best one. Shabu shabu was pretty decent before but the head chef left a month or two ago, all the other ones Ive tried are pretty horrible, Ganadara is ok but mainly because its cheap compared to the others. Im pretty familiar with korean food as my girlfriend comes from and lives in Korea so trust me.. I havent tried Omma, Atti or Maison seoul though all of which I heard from other people as being good choices. 5000 ans is garbage and maison bulgogi is not run by koreans so dont go there..

Smoked Salmon/Lox

She specifically asked for one in the west island, not laval or atwater market.. Just sayin...

Smoked Salmon/Lox

There is this fish market on sources near the 40, its called pecheur du marche, they house smoke it , its very good, but very oily as to be expected..

Best restaurants for solo outings?

Id eat anywhere alone..

Moonshine BBQ - new resto

Glad to hear they offer sandwiches now but using POM bread is just awful. That bread is poison, makes me feel horrible when I eat it. Its the equivalent of using processed cheese.
Do they only offer sandwiches at lunch?

My favourite korean place is in NDG , Hwang Kum , but ya for the most part pretty useless.

Moonshine BBQ

Hahah ya you gotta love that. I wrote a bad review on one place that did exactly that, and by the next day 3 more of their friends wrote a positive review to make up for my bad review. Pretty pathetic..

Fortune Dumpling pancakes are AMAZING!

I agree with everything you said

I tried the all you can eat promotion at a la saj about a week after first trying it, and it was very disappointing. The owner needs to stick to his roots and just serve syrian inspired wraps. The non syrian ones I tried were badly executed, and some included ingredients that should never be used, like canned tuna and processed cheese. I didnt have the heart to tell him what I thought because he was just so nice to me. I hope he reads this and takes my advice because I really hope he succeeds.

Its really not bad at all. If i had to choose where to go though Id probably choose rubs and dinette first, never tried diablo, blackstrap was a disaster when I went and havent been to bofinger since it first opened. The quality of the food is by no means bad though. My only concern is if they will go downhill after about a month or two like most of these other places. I find that most restaurants here are at their best the first couple months they are open but then get lazy and their standard of quality diminishes.

Moonshine BBQ - new resto

Yes I tried it, wrote a little something about in the openings 2013 thread I believe. Basically its not bad at all, great if you live in that area (since theres not much else to eat around there), but I personally enjoy those types of meats in a sandwich which they do not offer. Its worth a try if you live near by but its not worth going out of your way for imo..

I tried it the other day. Ya you do basically only get chicken I believe for 10.99$. I got the brisket plate combo. Cost me 20$, came with a drink, I chose tater tots for my side, and they included corn bread (not sure if everything comes with it or they made a mistake)Service was prompt, food was not bad at all considering the location. Portions were big. My only complaint was that they dont offer sandwiches. Id much prefer a bbq brisket sandwich or pulled pork sandwich rather than just loose meat on the plate, but that could just be me. I went with several friends, they all had no complaints except that the portions were too big. Although one friend got this tater tot poutine that was topped off with some chili and orange cheddar, seemed like a good idea until it got soggy and just looked like a pile of vomit by the end. Its definetly a good addition to the area which is lacking is decent food options, but dont think I would return, only because its not too close to me and not so reasonably priced.
