St-Henri and the taco war?

I tried both the other day as well. Same thing happened with me at Cafe frida, except they only had pork and veggie tacos left. Both were busy and had long waits for the food. While I found Tacos Victor slightly better it still was not worth 6$ for one. They should consider making the tacos smaller and charging less. At 2$ each I'll be giving Cafe Frida another try one of these days.

Tacos are so 5 years ago already. Why do they keep opening up new ones?! Ahh well, I still enjoy them from time to time.

Israeli Restaurants

Have you tried Sumac on Notre Dame? The chef is jewish moroccan I believe but they serve Israeli style food. Pretty good!

Chinatown 2 updates: some new places

Not sure if this is still considered chinatown 2 , but Chez Chen on the corner of lincoln and guy is worth checking out. Ive been a few times and it never disappoints. Its become my go to chinese place lately. They specialize in northern chinese (Dongbei) , but also have some szechuan and other familiar dishes.

Report: Filipino restaurant in Little Burgundy (Junior)

Well they definetly did up their game with a much better menu then the last time I went. There was more options and the prices were very reasonable. The portions were pretty generous as well. The problem I realized now after the third time eating at the place is that not that its bad , but I think I just dont particularly love Filipino cuisine. I also didn't love TK restobar the 2-3 times that I tried it.

Taking Serb M-in-Law to Russian resto- Your ideas SVP

From my experience Georgia is the best one. There is also Buffet Bravo, but never tried it.

Report: Filipino restaurant in Little Burgundy (Junior)

I tried it the first month it opened and was not impressed. I live around the corner and pretty much have no desire to go back. I tried the adobo and this noodle dish i cant remember the name of it , had tiny shrimp, minced pork and egg inside. And finished off with Turon as well.

Real Beijing Duck / Peking Duck - best place in Montreal?

I went the other day for lunch also.. Not sure if we got the same soup because mine was really bland and lacking seasoning. The best part of the meal was the duck wraps, though I feel would of been better if everything was served separately and I was able to wrap it myself. Also some crispy skin would of been nice. Cant say its better than the ones I've had at beijing or at Mon nan but the value was pretty amazing. Although I didnt really enjoy the meal , and would probably not go back.

Real Beijing Duck / Peking Duck - best place in Montreal?

Wow student tasty really didnt last long at all.. Must of been their horrible naan bread.. Will definetly check out WangLi, sounds promising.

Best Chinese restaurants in Montreal (not sure we had this kind of post before, anyway, it's my version)

I tried Shi tang a couple weeks ago and although the value is amazing, the food wasnt. Ive never been to a chinese restaurant that uses so much potato, every dish I got was like 90% potato somehow, especially the eggplant one.. AS much as I really wanted to like it I couldn't..

Ya I know, I actually found the menu and the prices to be very reasonable for that area. The pho wasnt great but was still the only one you can get in that area. According to their facebook its closed for now, it may reopen one day possibly.

Pho Sho in westmount closed last monday.

Tejano BBQ Burrito, Saint-Henri.

I dont know why people like Campaneli's honestly. Maybe I just had a bad experience there but there sandwiches are not worth it at all in my opinion. The meatballs were dry when I had them, and the rest of the sandwiches are just cold cuts. The idea of buying a sandwichwith cold cuts that arent even home made and pay over 10$ for it just doesnt make any sense to me.

Id say equivalent to a 10" sub

Decently priced peanut oil...

If you are willing to buy a pretty big amount go to Au but, Im sure its the best price you will find most likely

Well they only steamed the tortilla before they assembled the burrito. Not sure if you were thinking they steamed it afterwards..

Openings & Closings October, November & December 2014

yes they did! Although Im not sure if I'd prefer the burrito to be assembled first then put in a sandwich presser type thing instead..

So its pretty good! They had 3 meats and 2-3 veg options. There was a smoked chicken, a brisket and a pulled pork. Not sure about the veg ones, I believe one of them was beans. 9$ for a regular one and 12$ for XL, whole wheat and white wraps. And 1$ extra for Guacamole. I had the smoked chicken, which reminded me more of eating ground beef because of the texture. I enjoyed it though. There are several toppings you can add free of charge like corn, jalapeƱos and beans. In my opinion one of the better burritos Ive had and would return here over the other places like M4 , burrito shop and Jimmy Guaco's mainly because of convenience since I live not too far.

Nice, will go try it tonight and report back

Just gave it another try and had the "palabok" which is rice noodles with pork and shrimp gravy. I enjoyed this dish much more than the last one I had and would have it again.

Tried it on opening night. Picked up take out since all the tables were reserved. I had the Adobo Pork. It was literally pieces of pork and some rice, nothing else. Could of used some more sauce and veggies but not sure how its traditionally served. While it was ok, I just remember feeling unsatisfied with my meal by the end and regretted not ordering more. I will have to try it again but wasnt that impressed with the menu to be honest. Was hoping it would be a tad cheaper as well but nothing is in this area.

Tried it the other day. I used to go to philadephia growing up and had fond memories of eating cheesesteaks, so I had to try it. It was good, nothing extraordinary , but everything was pretty much like what I remembered it being. The biggest problem is that the cheeses they use seem to be processed which may be the way they do it in philly, but to me no processed cheese should ever be used in anything. I would of also liked slightly more meat in my sandwich but it was good overall. Another complaint would be that they close at 7:30pm. This is the type of food I would love to have late at night when Ive got the munchies!

The new hipsters in the Plateau-- L'Gros Luxe and Majestique

Finally got around to trying this place. Went to the new Bernard location. We ordered Avocado fries, Fish burger, beef burger and beet salad. Gotta say I was disappointed with everything I ordered except the avocado fries which were somewhat interesting, but was just battered and fried slices of avocado with a spicy aoili on the side. The beef burger's bread to meat ratio was way off, the fish burger just tasted like Lime juice and the beet salad was the worst of its kind that Ive ever had. Was so bland , had almost no seasoning. Nothing was expensive so I cant complain.. I should of probably ordered some of the tacos which looked better but I've been going to impactaco on Wednesdays for their 1$ tacos and having over 10 at a time so Im just sick of tacos now. Id maybe go back one more time and give it another try but first impression was not great.. Wonder if the other location is any better perhaps?

best ethiopian?

East Africa on Sherbrooke is pretty good but the service is really slow..

Belle et Boeuf

Ya this place doesnt interest me one bit. We didnt need another overpriced burger place.

Student Tasty Biryani

You can probably achieve a very decent naan bread by cooking it fresh in a really hot oven on a pizza stone if you dont have room for a tandoor oven. The ready made naan bread is quite disappointing.. Otherwise you guys are doing a good job!

ISO Pistachio Ice Cream

Funny you say that , I actually thought the same thing when I ate the bo-bec one, tasted alot like almond extract..

Student Tasty Biryani

Tried it out 2 days in a row. First day I had this tomato based curry , cant remember what it was called. While it wasnt bad, it tasted alot like canned tomato sauce that wasnt cooked down quite enough. It also came with a Dal soup which had a spice in there which I wasnt so familiar with, which was interesting but not the best ive had. And a pickle of some sort that I found to be extremely salty, but I generally dont love indian pickles... The naan bread may have been one of the saddest Ive ever had, they clearly dont have a tandoor oven. Everything was edible though and the price was very reasonable, so I was intrigued to try it again the next night. This time I had the butter chicken and it was pretty good! On par with some of the better ones Ive had, only downfall for me was that it was white meat, but I still enjoyed it. Their rice is well done also. I would return and try more things from the menu, its definetly better than Thali, and a good local cheap late night option for me.
