Best in Watertown?

Love their maple frosted! Hard to find good maple frosted donuts around these parts, altho one might expect the opposite in New England. Sweet yes, but it's a donut.

Generally agree about the other baked goods, but in a pinch we have ordered their chocolate/chocolate mouse cake for office birthday celebrations and people seem to really enjoy it.

Sunday Lunch in Watertown

It is too bad about Stellina, that would have a been a solid choice. Thanks to CookieLee and L, I will be trying the Agean for lunch soon. Love a good garlicky oil based dressing for my greek salad! I actually work right around the corner from Strip-Ts and am not sure I get the near mass hysteria. We go occasionally for lunch and it is usually pretty good, although the last time I went I got the salad special of the day which which contained cold pasta and shrimp...and that's it. Not much flavor or creativity there. For $9 I was dissapointed. Ducking for cover...

Marathon Monday

Thanks for the suggestions all. We ended getting the heck out of dodge and took the green line back to Riverside and went to O'Hara's for a late lunch (very good). It was so crazy after the game - walking back to the T, lines to get into places like Copperfields and the new Yard House were about 50/60 deep (in the heat!). But it was a great game and besides getting Bobby V's autograph, the highlight was our brought in Dr Peppers sausage w peppers/onions/special sauce~ wish I had another one right now!

Marathon Monday

Hounds - We are taking our little guy to his first Red Sox game tomorrow. And of course hoping to get some good chow in. 11 am start - will bring in Sausages (Dr P - hope they are set up early!) and get the boys a fenway frank, but would like to do a great lunch after. Is that a pipe dream given the marathon and Kenmore crowds? Would love to try Sweet Cheeks...we've done Audobon after games in the past but not sure we'd go with kids (7 & 13). Any ideas for good chow in the area that won't be a zoo? We are on the green line - game will let out 2pm ish...don't get in town enough these days so hoping to maximize. All thoughts welcome.

Top 5 of the Cape

CCG - can you elborate on the barnstable shack? Is there a name, picnic tables etc? Would like to check it out next week. Agree on Sesuit getting too crazy. We turned around last time due to the insane line out the door!

Also any thoughts on a place in Dennis called Summer Shanty?

good fresh cheap seafood?

Any and all recs for the above? Fresh and well prepared, serving beer and wine a plus? I remember the Sea Witch on Rte 1 in Peabody, haven't been in probably 15 yrs, but it was good and cheap and the lobster stew was to die for (in fact last time we were there former President GW Bush 1 and his entorage stopped in for a seafood fix on the way to Kennebunkport!).

Seems like this should be an easy find given our NE location, but it isn't. we are Northwest of Boston/Camb but willing to drive - thanks!

The best cut out cookie?

Loving all the cookie threads with such variety! This year I decided to pick one successful recipe and mutliply (over and over again!) for gifts for work friends etc - cranberry orange biscotti w. white chocolate drizzle it is and they've worked out great. But my little guy likes neither cranberries or pistachios and I've promised to spend this wkend making cut out cookies in the shapes of santa and reindeer and stars and such. He is so exicted, but I have never found a cut out/sugar cookie recipe that works for me. Looking for something that produces a nice dough that isn;t too crumbly, and tastes wonderful - anything to share?

The One Place You Want to Keep to Yourself - It's OK, We Won't Tell Anyone!

I agree. We love this place. The food is always fresh and tasty, and the owners are super nice. Love the wild boar basil, but will be trying the Hot & Crazy Noodles next time (maybe this weekend!). We usually do takeout too.

Haven't been back to Garlic Bistro at Drum Hill in years, last experience was a bad one.

I think Clancy's on Upper County does a good burger - but would be intersted in other spots!

Pls help - Sesuit Cafe

It does turn into a zoo in the summertime (for dinner). Last summer we had a very similiar experience to Seaville, it was mid-week August. About an hour wait for a table, jocking for position with others doing the same, another hour for the food. It was dark when the food finally came out and I have this thing about seeing the food I eat... Honestly we won't go back on a summer night anytime soon - but I love the lunch idea! They do make wonderful onion rings....

Mashpee food recs

I know this post is a year old, but I was wondering if Kettle Ho (from rec below) is still open and a good option? We are heading to Mashpee soon and have similar inquiries as the original post. Any updates? We'll of course hit The Raw Bar, but one can't live on Lobster rolls alone...(possibly I could, but not the hubby)

Top 5 Mid-Cape Italian

Thanks Cape Cod Guy, always appreciate your posts. As we are staying in a new area of the Cape this summer (Mashpee), it seems fairly accessible to many of these spots...alas we have 2 boys and will stay away from Villa Roma! Would the others be welcoming of kids?

Five Guys Burgers and Fries in Marlborough

Thanks SLL1065, for the Peanut Allergy warning. Did not know, and we were planning on checking it out after we took the boys to Patriot Place (one of which is x-tremely allergic).

Will definitely check it out on my own though - thanks!

Pumpkin is in the air

Agreed! We wait for it all summer. Had it last week from Littleton and it was as good as ever. Super creamy and pumpkiny, but not overly spiced with cinnamon, etc (I find some pumkin ice creams can suffer from overkill on the spices). Lovely.

Tribe's Cracked Red Pepper Hummus

Chef Chik - I am making "greek pinwheels" as an appetizer for 50 people this weekend. I'm going to use your version of hummus - sounds devine - as my base and then layer with tabouli and feta. How does your version hold up vs supermarket brands (I'm a Tribe gal too). I will be making them the night before. Thanks for sharing!

Mini Burgers/Pizza/Italian for Kids

We had some surprisingly good sliders at The Stockyard in Brighton, right off the Mass Pike. Definitely an okay spot for kids too - we had a sleeping toddler and an 8 yr old with us. Good luck!

Which ice cream cone do you go out of your way for?

Oh, scary re the Friendlys PB sauce... I like it too, and have been known to order it over vanilla in desolate non Kimballs winter months.

100% agree with the post re Kimballs Gingersnap-Molassas! So good. Also a huge fan of Toscanninis Burnt Caramel, and I believe I've had similar at Christinas. White 's in Ipswich has an amazing Key Lime Pie ice cream in the summer....a necessary stop after a day a Crane's.

Frozen strip steaks?

Trying to "cook from the freezer" this week - since I can't fit anything else in there! - and came across 2 small sirloin strip steaks that I must have forgotten about. I usually only buy steaks to throw on a hot grill soon after purchase, so I'm not sure what happened here. Nonetheless, they are dated 11/15/07 - still good?? I'm thinking of defrosting and throwing on a grill pan to slice up for fajitas? Any advice or other ideas? Thanks Hounds!

Ah So sauce...Am I the only one

My husband loves this stuff. I'll be honest and confess I've never understood the allure, but it's the only way he cooks pork chops (which is one of the only things he cooks ;). His mother always used it...I though it might be a "North Shore" Mass thing. He loves wings and your recipe sounds great. Since this sauce always "appears" in my fridge, I am definitely going to give them a try!

Dang. Now I have to go bake these. And I was trying to stop :) They look lovely. Can you tell the difference between bakers sugar and regular? Also, why "Slow" in the name? Thanks -

Olive 'n Herb Pizza Place in Nashua - very good (short review)

Where is this place located in Nashua? Can you sit down?

Hazan's tomato sauce with onion and butter

Which Hazen cookbook is this from? Been meaning to get one of hers and this sounds like a good place to start. Can't wait to try this!

Dommy’s Dinners: A New Fish Dish – Halibut Shepherd’s Pie

This looks awesome Dommy, thanks. I love your updates and btw I will be buying TJ's hummus on my next trip. When I checked out the pics on flicker!, I noticed the triple chocolate pie slice. Now you may not be a chocoholic, but I most certainly am! Is the recipe posted somewhere, I dug around a little, but I must confess I am being lazy.

Speaking of Ice Cream...

Sully's in Chlemsford is excellent! We live closer to Kimballs Carlise location, but we usually go to Sullys due to its proximity to the ball fields. They have the best peanut butter sauce, which I get over choc chip. Last night I tried the Maple Walnut frozen yogurt. Thumbs up. I live for September when Pumpkin is available - definitely prefer Sully's Pumpkin over Kimballs. But I must add, I had an incredible Heath Bar Crunch experience when Kimballs opened up for the season this spring!

Ina's Roasted Veg & Orzo?

I have Barefoot Contessa, Family Style and At Home, but I can't seem to find this recipe. I've heard great things about it and I'm planning on serving it as part of a 1st communion/mothers day spread next weekend. Can someone point me in the right direction?
