Chicken thighs in a crock pot

I know this is an old thread but I made this tonight and it's very good. I'll definitely be making it again. I was short on time and made it in the oven (first at 350 and then 200). Next time I'll do the slow cooker. The sauce was delicious on raw sliced up cabbage--and I didn't even use the coconut milk. Next time!

The Best Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

Yes. There is really no comparison. I think people give rave reviews to the Toll House because that's how their chocolate chip cookies have always tasted.

No/Low Carb Meals

Yes. Agreed. Give me free-range chicken thighs over some nasty a$$, sanitized in ammonia, PErdue chicken breast any day of the week.

Chili-Apple Pie; Too weird?

In that case, go for it!

Chili-Apple Pie; Too weird?

Yes, or if there is another dessert (as poster mentioned below) then I think it's fine. I think it looks great.

The butter pie--anything with butter and pie in the same phrase has my attention but I am afraid I'd only be able to eat a bite. Seems worth trying though.

Okay, Now On To Christmas Dinner...

You had me a horseradish cream. Yum.

We eat with in-laws Christmas and it's always a pork roast. It's fine, but I fantasize about doing it one year ourselves and having the rib roast and yorkshire puddings.

Right, yes. I'm thinking I'll make some and I'll let the wee one decorate a few too. He will love it.

Best homemade food gifts?

I am just realizing how old it is, too. However, I always read old threads for recipe ideas so I don't see any reason to not add comments. Right? And I was also looking for a toffee recipe. So it worked out well for me. Thanks.

Best homemade food gifts?

I do this, but with pecans. Always a big hit. And lovely in a salad.

Can I freeze my pie dough?

Yes, I do too. And I like the vodka crust. I've seen haters, but for me it comes out very flakey and tender. I aso use leaf lard. If you have room in freezer for a pie pan (this is for temporary freezer storage, obviously), I'd roll the crust out, shape in pan and then freeze. This aso helps the crust hold its shape in the oven.

Cranberry Sauce

I have made this in the past and it tastes very good. No one in my family likes it chunky so I run it through the food mill and it's perfect.

Favorite/best Thanksgiving onion side dish?

Anything that involves stuffing something with butter has to be good.

Wow--those are really pretty! Have never done decorated but really want to this year. Might be delusional being pregnant with a small toddler at home, but this pregnancy is making me BAKE.

I've been looking for a good recipe, too. The sables recipe looks good. But what recipe does your friend use?

Get your gravy on!

I make some in advance a la CI. I will make stock today from turkey necks, wings, legs and giblets. You roast all the turkey parts (with onions) first to get the flavor going.

I'll make gravy this weekend and we'll combine with gravy from the bird when it comes out. There is never enough gravy from the bird--and I like my gravy.

What are you baking these days? Part XI [old]

Made the Alice Medrich via Smitten Kitchen cocoa powder brownies yesterday. Finally found a brownie recipe I love! Only took ten years of baking.

Nick Malgieri's Supernatural Brownies - is there really a better recipe? I think not.

I found the so-called Supernatural brownies disappointingly cakey and crumbly. I've read that they are better cold from fridge or freezer but I want them to be good at room temp. Had MUCH better results with the chewy Alice Medrich via Smitten Kitchen cocoa powder (no melted chocolate) recipe. Perfectly balance of chewy and fudgy, not too sweet, not too bitter, no freezer needed. No crumbles.

The NM brownies came out like most other brownie recipes I've tasted (and I've tried many--Ina, CI are the closest to good but still not great): a let down. Good thing I'm pregnant and have been on a brownie recipe testing spree. I had the MEdrich ones back to back after the Supernaturals and they were clearly superior, no comparison.

And the cocoa powder ones are so fast to make. AND you already have all of the ingredients in your cupboard. Seriously there is no excuse for anyone to ever use a box again.

Favorite/best Thanksgiving onion side dish?

Hi, my father' family always made creamed onions and I never tried them. They looked like blank white eyeballs. My dad used to make them out of duty or nostalgia, but he was the only one who ate them.

But now I'm thinking---hmm, soft slow cooked onions, mmm.

Just looked at a Thomas Keller via Smitten Kitchen recipe for creamed onions with bacon and chives, and the Julia Child's brown onions recipe (think I'll go with that one.) But do you have a favorite recipe?

Thanks!
