Road trip eats in San Diego

I'd go to Neighborhood. One of the better beer selections in the area, and pretty good food. Not super-cheap (~$10 burgers, for example), but definitely not expensive for the area.

GREAT SPOTS IN PACIFIC BEACH TO EAT

A few more:

La Playa Taco Shop - particularly for breakfast
Tap Room - best craft beer selection in the neighborhood

9+ days in Mexico City: The Trip Report

Fantastic report - thanks for sharing!

Best San Diego Mexican Food?

La Playa in Pacific Beach.

Best San Diego Mexican Food?

They have pretty limited menu space. For some reason they do have Huevos al AlbaƱil on the menu, which is equally rare to come across in San Diego.

Best San Diego Mexican Food?

I have huevos divorciados whenever I have breakfast at my local taco shop. It isn't on the menu, but they are happy to make it.

Best Seafood Restaurant in San Diego

The Fishery has really upped their game in the last year or so. I went for one of their "Tuesday Tastings" (a very reasonably priced three-course set menu) about a month ago and really enjoyed it.

Fresh Poke to go?

What kind of seaweed do you use, and where do you get it?

BOSTON STYLE CANTONESE CHINESE FOOD - SAN DIEGO

Try China Inn in Pacific Beach. I'm pretty sure it is the style of food you are looking for, and they list "Shrimp with Lobster Sauce" on their menu.

San Diego CLOSED Restaurants - Replacement for old board.

That's a shame. I always thought it was a strange location, but really appreciated them being there.

Best Farmer's Market in San Diego?

A few miles south is the PB market on Saturday mornings. It is smaller than the LJ and OB markets, but that is mostly because it doesn't have any of the flea market stuff and prepared food stalls. Just farmers.

4 Nights in Pacific Beach. Recs please.

Thanks for the report on Cafe Mono - I've been meaning to check them out.

Local poultry and beef in San Diego county?

We were out at Star B picking hops this summer, and they definitely still produce bison. They don't slaughter locally, though.

Local beer suggestions

In PB, you should definitely go to Tap Room (they have Alpine Nelson on right now), but I would skip PB Alehouse. Instead, hop down a couple of beach neighborhoods to Pizza Port Ocean Beach.

Alpine Brewpub

Tap Room does have Alpine from time to time, but not like O'Brien's where they usually have multiple Alpine taps at any given point.

Alpine Brewpub

Alpine actually did increase production not that long ago. Before that, it was a rare happy sight to find it on tap. Now, most good beer bars have Alpine offerings on a semi-regular basis.

Bottling is another story, though. I don't what kind of setup they have, but I don't think they bottle enough to get any significant distribution.

Alpine Brewpub

Hence my comment that they have been branching out more lately.

I think the Token porter is fantastic, and their experiments with sours have been interesting (although I didn't particularly care for Chez Monieux or Briscoe). I've also heard good things about Great, but not yet tried it.

Alpine Brewpub

True, but none of those beers (save perhaps Captain Stout) would even be mentioned in a discussion of why Alpine is a world-class brewery.

Alpine Brewpub

I completely agree with what DougOLis said, so you can count me as the second person you've heard say that :-)

Depends what you like to drink, though. If you aren't an IPA fan, Alpine isn't going to be as interesting to you (although they have been branching out more, lately).

Old School Restaurants in San Diego..

I'd totally forgotten about the piano player. I don't think he has been there for quite some time.

Old School Restaurants in San Diego..

Marino's in Pacific Beach.

I can only personally vouch for 15 years or so, but I'm pretty sure it has been there a lot longer than that. Old-school family-run American Italian joint (with all of the good and bad that implies). I haven't been in years, but I'm sure it is exactly the same.

UTC Farmer's Market Opening Today

Try the Pacific Beach market on Saturday mornings. It isn't huge, but it is just fruit/veg/flowers (oh, and Brandt Beef). It is a certified farmers' market - no non-farmers are allowed to sell.

I hate the new release

Don't blame the programmers - they just do what the "designers" tell them to do.

Comic-Con 2010 -- New and improved!

Rodriguez has had video recipes as bonuses on a couple of his DVDs, so this makes at least some sense.

Here is his recipe for Puerco Pibil:

Coming to SD this weekend! Need Burrito Help!

La Playa Taco Shop - particularly for breakfast. 3973 Mission Blvd.

Taco Surf - good taco shop fare with a relaxed beach vibe. 4657 Mission Blvd.

Tacos German truck in OB is closing

When you say that "neither of them had cheese on the tacos", do you mean the fish tacos or the gobernadors? The gobernadors I've had have had a fair bit of cheese on them.

Which beach for excellent food?

And don't forget to be outraged at their use of one form of commodity mayo product instead of another.

Pizza Port in Ocean Beach?

I just heard that they open at 5:00 tonight.

out of town guests requesting italian pasta dinner-ideas?

"Where in god's name are you getting strawberries in February??"

North county. We've been getting very good local strawberries in the winter.

Barrio Star

You can eat three of those tacos? I can barely move after two...
