Pholourie/caribbean food in Newton,Surrey

While not caribbean but Bolivan, you should check out Pachamamas on the corner of King George and 80th. Very good food and friendly owners, they also have live entertainment occassionally . Sorry haven't got the link but they do have a facebook page, too early in the morn for me.

Anyone for $100 cognac-infused dog ?

Give me a good hot dog (costco with hot peppers are not bad) but let me drink the cognac, don't waste it in a dog

Halal Turkey Location - Vancouver or Surrounding Cities?

I just ordered mine from a little store in North Delta, 112th & 84th. Bought one for Thanksgiving, brined it with the usual salt sugar spices and some maple sryup. It was the best turkey we have ever had. I think the place is called Tropical veg & fruit, they also have a great meat section, homemade sausages and the like.

Fire roasted tomatoes at a reasonable price?

Fred Meyers is the place to get them, the quality is far superior than the one at Save on. I like the S&W brand, also try their canned black beans, chickpeas and other canned tomatoes.

Good restaurants in New Westminster

try Range on Columbia, close to Braid for some good Barbeque, southern style. Annie's has gone down hill, using less maple sryup, try the new ice cream place on 6&6th, they have soft ice cream with different flavour combinations such as maple or orange in the soft ice cream, The orange and soft ice cream tasted like orangesicles of my childhood.

The Range, best Pulled Pork

Closer to Braid, across the street from the 711, no real sign outside as yet. I would stay away from Hon's, but that's only my stomach talking.

The Range, best Pulled Pork

New little BBq joint on Columbia St. in New Westminster, between Braid and Royal Columbia.
I have never done a review before, have read a lot of them though. Just want to see this place do well.
I had the Pulled Pork with coleslaw sandwich, so flavourfull, needed at least 6 napkins, it was that juicy. Nice little hint of roasted garlic in the slaw, which really set off the sauce on the pork. Best I have had in the Lower Mainland. The atmosphere is nothing to write home about, but the food sure is.
Nice little break and substance for moving day.

Casual dinner(good food) on Canada Line?

Thanks for the suggestions, the plans are for the Blue Canoe in Steveston. Been there awhile back, was pretty good. The most important thing is getting together with good friends. Have been so busy this year, haven't seen many friends, actually this is the first weekend at home since April. Been sailing every weekend on our boat. Going to keep Stella's for another weekend with hubby.

Casual dinner(good food) on Canada Line?

Meeting up with friends Sat night, need suggestions.
They are coming in from Richmond, we are in New West. They aren't very adventures, but I would
like to have some good food, but don't want to suggest someplace too expensive($20 range would be good). There last pick was Steamworks in Gastown(not bad but not good). I want to go to Salt but I know they won't appreciate it.
Any ideas?

My mother stored her fur coat in the freezer during the summer months, Scared the daylights out of my daughter when she went looking for the ice cream.

Crystallized tomatoes

They were softer and not so chewy as a sundried tomatoe, even softer than soaking the non oil sundried type. I would think you would have to start with perfect tasting tomatoes, which we ate a lot of down there. They were slightly dry but a very bright taste to them.

Maybe I should try oven baking some, see if that might work.

Crystallized tomatoes

Hi I'm new to posting here, but have been lurking lately. I have a question that I can't seem to get an answer for about crystallized tomatoes. Are they sundried with out oil or is it some other technique? I'm trying to duplicate a recipe from a restaurant for home use. I would email the restaurant but it' s in Mexico and although we just got back home, my spanish is terrible. The restaurant is Cafe Chocolate in Merida Yucatan, the homemade fettucini with crystallized tomatoes, garlic, thyme, olive oil and goat cheese was the best pasta dish I have had in my live(and that is a lot of years). I tried making it with sundried tomatoes with oil , making my own pasta, but it wasn't the same. Crystallized or dried, are they the same?

Won't be making back down to Mexico till next year, I'm craving that dish!!
