Asheville Trip-Dining results

i have friends who rave about Homegrown but 3 tries and they're "out" for me. Agree with all of your others.

Greenville , SC random food updates

Glad you mentioned Swamp Rabbit. They keep their food simple and honest...baked goods are delish...sometimes soups could do w/ a bit more seasoning/salt - but that's an easy fix.

South Asheville Dining

scrirocco is right...that area really doesn't have a whole lot. Blue Sky Cafe ( www.iloveblueskycafe.com) is a good spot for casual lunch or dinner dining. I hear mixed reviews about most of places in Biltmore Park. Have been to a couple myself and they've been just okay. As was suggested I'd probably go south into Hendersonville - check out blog post by Carolina Epicurean for ideas.

Foodie Alert- Asheville Chef''s Challenge

Starting March 20th until May 22nd on Tuesday nights you'll be able to watch and taste as stellar Asheville and WNC chefs compete (in Iron Chef fashion) for points based on their use of a secret ingredient. This is great fun and the food is always amazing. I highly recommend. find ticket and match up info on www.wncmagazine.com

Harvest Moon Grille - Farm to Table done right (Charlotte, NC)

It's part of the Dunhill Hotel - a lovely historic hotel on N. Tryon in downtown Charlotte

Harvest Moon Grille - Farm to Table done right (Charlotte, NC)

sorry - I put in the address but evidently it didn't show - Charlotte, NC

Harvest Moon Grille - Farm to Table done right (Charlotte, NC)

on a cold winter Saturday the idea of ordering a little something from room service was more appealing than braving the windblown streets. We were pleasantly surprised by a couple of pre-show appetizer plates and decided to dine at the restaurant after the meal. Attentive service...impeccable presentation and flavors...everything was excellent. Coming from Western NC were are very familiar with the "farm to table" concept and were tickled to see some of our WNC "friends" on the menu at Harvest Moon. Local sausage was flavorful without being fatty....local cheeses were subtle and well paired with pickled vegetables ... a creamy parsnip soup had just the right balance of creaminess to parsnip flavor... breakfast the next morning was equally good.

Asheville, NC

many of the Local Favorites have long gone...Grove Park Inn of course almost 100 years ... 5 Points Cafe on Broadway, Moose Cafe - near Farmer's Mkt (but not that great), Tastee Diner on Haywood, ...In Asheville it's not about the old favorites it's about the new, creative cuisine.

Asheville, NC, getaway

Downtown: Zambra, Cucina 24, Curate, Posana Cafe, Storm Rhum Bar and the Junction
Grove Park Inn - Horizon's and drinks by the fireplace
Biltmore Village - Fig and Corner Kitchen
West Asheville - Admiral
Dessert: Chocolate Fetish or sit and have dessert at Chocolate Lounge

Zambra Asheville, NC

We really like to order from the specials and also always ask the server for their opinion - has always worked for us. As far as dessert...pick up some truffles from Chocolate Fetish or go to Chocolate Lounge after dinner.

Out & About in Asheville

Hadn't been to Limones in some time so it was nice to revisit. Food was good but it reminded me that I miss Curras. Everyone was pleased w/ their entrees...my only comment about the food would be that the Lobster Nachos would be better off in a different vessel rather than in an untidy heap in a too small bowl. It was also quite chilly in the restaurant the night we were there and we ate part of the dinner w/ our coats on.

Culinary Student looking to expand palette in Greenville, SC and surrounding area.

You have a great magazine in the Upstate which should help guide you to some better quality restaurants, Edible Upcountry.... Yes, drive up to Asheville, don't stop at S.Asheville which is much like Greenville - go all the way downtown or to West Asheville or Biltmore Village if you want to experience some of our exciting restaurants with creative chefs who delight in using local ingredients.

Charlotte - downtown or near Ovens for Tapas type fare?

We're going to a show and it's that dilemma of do we try and rush through a dinner at 5:30pm or wait til after a show and have something at 9pm. I think we've decided to have at least some light apps, tapas before the show (at Ovens). We're staying downtown so either somewhere downtown or on the way or near Ovens would work.

Admiral, Table or Curate in Asheville

my vote would be Tapas at Curate at the bar and then head to either Admiral or Table - provided you have reservations! The nice part about Curate then going Table is you can walk. Table has had shining moments for me as well as not so great. Admiral is a totally different scene and vibe. The "problem" with Asheville is that there are SO many choices!

ATHENS, GEORGIA

5&10 - I live in Asheville, NC - a great restaurant town - and 5&10 surpasses most here.

Asheville area Updates - November "11

Great service and a good vibe in this place. We went on Thanksgiving so I'd like to give it a try on a "normal" night.

Knife & Fork - Spruce Pine NC - dining destination

we went recently and really enjoyed a roasted persimmon & potato side. Never would have thought to do this but it works. Chef Nate is very creative and personable and his wife Wendy who runs the front of the house is charming. I like the fact that their servers remember us and haven't changed...always a good sign at a restaurant!

Asheville NC Restaurant Recommendations for July

Chef Katie Button IS amazing...few know how much she and her mother (Elizabeth) do in the community. They have embraced Asheville and work w/ kids and schools - we are very fortunate to have them! Beyond that, the food is very authentic Spanish-style tapas.

Asheville area Updates - November "11

Sorry, disagree, we're there about 2-3 times per month and find the portions more than adequate and prices good. Have frequently been wowed by their specials. Gladly many don't feel as you do as the place is consistently busy. I love that they also feature local musicians.

Asheville area Updates - November "11

thanks for this dingey - we have friends in Waynesville and we're always wondering where to go.

Asheville area Updates - November "11

I suspect that soon Asheville or Western NC will warrant its own tab on Chowhound.......

Storm Rhum bar(behind Orange Peel) - have heard consistently good reports but alas, have not been
Junction (River Arts) - have been there for lunch a few times and dinner once...always very good with good flavors and presentation. Service is a little slow but enjoy your housemade drinks - it's worth it!
Wild Duck Taco (Riverarts) - Inexpensive, creative and casual
Jack of Hearts Weaverville - has quickly become a neighborhood favorite. Their daily specials seldom disappoint. Good beer selection and nice wine/drink specials

Norcross - special dinner

bob - we tried the depot/station for dinner and I have to tell you that it was so mediocre....the service was fine but the vegetables(turnip greens) were so incredibly oversalted that I had to send them back and the other food was just ok. It seems like a good place for a casual family meal but not for a nice meal and certainly not for atmosphere!

Norcross - special dinner

thanks for the recommendation..we had a FANTASTIC dinner at Pampas - hubs raved over his steak and I enjoyed my beef carpaccio and ceviche...

Knife & Fork - Spruce Pine NC - dining destination

vote for him for James Beard!!!

Romantic or just plain fun dinner in Asheville?

I would agree w/ Danna on Moose Cafe...biscuits are good- everything else is pretty mainstream at best.

Norcross - special dinner

thanks...hubs would love a steak house...sushi...he's not big on Indian or Thai...but open to other cuisines

Romantic or just plain fun dinner in Asheville?

good rec's here...I'd say the same...pre-dinner drink at Sante....dessert at Chocolate Lounge.....casual lunch Homegrown.

Norcross - special dinner

Will be in Norcross for a part business/part getaway wknd. Any rec's on nicer restaurants w/ good atmosphere that are fairly close by?
