Trader Joe's YAY/MEH/NAY - December 2014

Laughing at your response, Trolley, thanks. And I couldn't let you experiment alone, so I went back, got another bag, and yeah, the same darn thing happened. The entire contents disappeared while I was by myself. That darn defective bag--because surely I did not eat it all myself.

Trader Joe's YAY/MEH/NAY - December 2014

Do NOT, under any circumstances, buy the new Peppermint Pretzel Thins. They have a weird bag.

I opened up the bag this afternoon, 10 minutes later I reached into the bag and they were all gone. The bag clearly has an invisible hole in the bottom, as surely I didn't eat them all. ;-)

(Yay for the flavor, Nay for the addiction factor)

parma trattoria mozzarella bar in louisville co???

Meh. Not impressed. And I went there twice for family events. The food was so-so. The pastas were bland. The creme brulee, which is one of my favorite desserts, was so tasteless that I didn't even finish it.

Natural Grocers opening here Wednesday

Give them some time, Tracy. Another thing I love about VC is that it's the ONLY grocery/natural story where people know me and I know the staff. Since it's smaller, they make an effort to get to know you. So far the only thing I really can't stand about them??? Their corny commercials, starring...family members. ugh

Natural Grocers opening here Wednesday

I have a totally different experience than enbell. GREAT customer service, super knowledgable, great prices on vitamins and natural products. Our stores here in Colorado offer a decent selection of produce and natural meats.

Seafood stew minus tomatoes and dairy?

Any recipes for a lovely seafood stew that does not include tomatoes or dairy? My dH is allergic to both. Wanted to do this for Christmas Eve.

I've done a search but haven't found anything.

Thanks.

Trader Joe's Yea/Nay Thread - 1st quarter 2012 [old]

Steve, it's been crazy that it took TJ's so long to open up here in Colorado, especially since most people who go to Whole Foods, Sunflower and Vitamin Cottage are all carrying TJ's bags. And we can't figure out why the liquor laws are so tough here (only one location of a "warehouse/store" is allowed to sell liquor in Colorado) yet you'll find a marijuana shop on just about every street corner. Strange. Regardless, happy that TJ's is opening in Boulder in 2013.

Trader Joe's coming to Colorado

Of course this hasn't been "confirmed" but this is being reported by the Daily Camera based on permits requested.

Trader Joe's coming to Colorado

Yes! It was just announced that TJ's is opening up their first store in Boulder this year, probably around April-ish. 29th Street Mall is the location.

I can finally indulge in all of the goodies that you guys have been talking about.

Your disappointing purchases from Costco

I just saw your ID and can't help but comment...LOVE the Puyallup. The scones there were so yummy, but then again that was over 30 years ago since I've had one.

Foodie news for Denver/Boulder?

That's true. I'm just trying to find one central location like Chowhound that consolidates all of the info.

Foodie news for Denver/Boulder?

Thanks, Monopod. I'll check into those. Chowhound has been a great resource, if not providing the info I need, then certainly people who know where to get the answers.

Foodie news for Denver/Boulder?

We definitely get celeb chefs/tv personalities, we just don't always know about them. And it's true, we don't get as many as other cities.

Foodie news for Denver/Boulder?

Is there a site/blog (other than Chowhound) that lets us know when there's some hot news in Boulder/Denver? I missed the Great American Food Truck Race (Food network) when it was here earlier this year and was bummed. Or when a celeb is in town filming a review of a restaurant?

Best Supermarket In USA: your nominations

I'll second Wegmans even though I no longer live close to one. Everyone here goes to Whole Foods and other than a few items not found elsewhere, it's the last place I go. I find their prepared foods, including the bbq, asian, hot bar, etc., are so plain and unappetizing. Their breads aren't very good (I'm of German heritage, so I've had great breads my entire life.) Their desserts are meh. I'm just surprised so many people eat there or get that food to go, not even factoring in how expensive everything is.

At last !!! Haagen-Dazs Cranberry Pumpkin Spice Ice Cream:

I've always loved pumpkin ice cream but truly the H.D. takes it to a gastronomic level. I wasn't sure I'd like the cranberry mixed in, but it does cut the fattiness a bit---or at least that's what I tell myself to justify eating it.

What's the best thing you've ever received trick-or-treating?

This is feedback from the kids that come to my door. The girls say that the jewelry I give out is the best thing they've ever received. I collect inexpensive beaded bracelets and necklaces throughout the year at various sales. I put them on a tray and offer the girls a choice of candy or jewelry. For boys I usually get the inexpensive parachuting toys or other cool things. I had plastic bat rings and the boys weren't interested in them until I put on in my nose (as a nose ring) and suddenly all of the boys wanted one. Just mixing things up.

Costco food finds - 4th quarter 2011 [old]

Is it worth going to the Costco in Richmond, BC, Canada ? I'll be 5 minutes from there in a few weeks and was wondering what products Americans are buying there. (Non-perishable, please.)

Can I double ATK's braised short rib recipe?

Both great suggestions, thanks. I think I was most concerned about cooking the ribs in 2 layers in the dutch oven versus just one layer when it's a single recipe.

Can I double ATK's braised short rib recipe?

Okay, so a few weeks ago I made the boneless short rib recipe from ATK and it was truly the best beef rib recipe ever. The only problem is that it didn't make enough.

Since I'm braising them in my dutch oven, can I just double the recipe and cook longer or won't that work because they'll be in 2 layers?

(I've doubled many recipes in the past but have just started cooking with my LC dutch oven, so am not that familiar with how to do it.)

TIA
