Guiltiest Guilty Pleasures

WoW--that might be a cheaper, faster version of my high school treat.. which amounted to buying a pint of Ben & Jerry's and warming it up in the microwave for about 15-20 seconds.. and mostly just excavating the mix-in's, candies, brownies, cookie dough bites, etc.

Oh I have another one... going the day after Halloween (or another candy/sweets-based holiday) and getting a bunch -O-candy for very, very cheap.. and then definitely having more than 1 serving. Like 4-5 servings... before you pawn it off on someone else because you cannot stand to see it anymore.

I haven't done this in a few years, but back in college, we would deliberately hit-up Jewel the day after Halloween.

(I agree with chileheadmike.. I am not sure I would blatantly say all bread is unhealthy.. but to each their own!)

Not in recent years--but yes, I can recall once during college eating ~1/2 jar of one of those soupy-natural-type brands of nut-butter... afterwards I definitely felt like a blimb.

Trader Joe's YAY/MEY/NAY - September 2014

It is odd though because I do see a lot of people buy them. I think they taste like veggie-straws.. which I have never liked either.

Weight Watchers Foodies -- The Back to School Edition! September 2014

Down 6 lbs. total in 2 weeks. Although I have been drinking a lot, a lot, a lot of water.. so I am up 2 lbs. some days due to water--I think.

Regardless, now that I am 100% working-out every day, I don't really care what the number is because I trust working-out.

cotton candy grapes

I tried one. I don't like cotton candy... but it did taste great!
Maybe next month I will buy them as my mock/healthier alternative Halloween candy.

French Kids Don't Get Fat: Why?

Having just been in France for a few days, I could not believe how many commercials were for kid-oriented snacks, cereals, and treats.... it was surprising because I thought only the US had that issue. ... Also I never saw kids strolling down the streets (in either country) with fruit or vegetables in hand.. I often saw them with sweet-drinks and chips or candies (sometimes from Metro vending machines).

However--one must walk everywhere in France. While I was there, I was constantly walking.. anything I ate, I basically burned off that day because I walked so much. Therefore, this is clearly naive (based on only a week there), but I think the constant walking is the key.

I just want to say how helpful this thread was last month and this month. It is really inspiring to hear what commitments people make (and keep). And I think it really helps to 'say aloud' (well, on the screen at least) one's goals.

Weight Watchers Foodies -- The Back to School Edition! September 2014

I just need to drink more of it. I have only been getting in 1 cup of green-tea. And I don't recall what article it was, but a few months ago I read that 3 cups of green-tea a day really is beneficial to the body and mind. --Also then I won't eat fruit as a snack in the evening, if I have tea instead.

PS. I didn't use it because I did not have an international phone-plan--but you might want to check-out David Lebovitz's pastry-app.

Oh goodie! (Pardon my childish delight.) I didn't get to try Angelina, but I heard theirs were good too.

I bought Laduree inside of Galleries Lafayette or Printemps (whichever one has it towards the top)... and there was no line whatsoever. Versus, when I passed the Laduree stores I saw people waiting in very long lines. And if you are flying out of CDG, you can get some last-minute Laduree at the airport.. but I would still have some while you are out in Paris. I just bought two there as a final taste but also watched the couple next me devour about 20 on the plane. Personally I preferred Laduree because I thought PH's flavors were trying to hard. Laduree's read as deeper, richer pure flavors.

I stayed near Odette and people seemed to love their creme puffs... but alas, I didn't try them because I just don't care for that kind of thing.

As much as I thought macs would be my favorite, the pate de fruit was actually hands down my favorite sweet-thing to eat in Paris--at PH get the box that has the teal colored cover because that is the assorted variety. It made up for never making it to whatever bakery I had wanted to go to (maybe Genin) to try a Paris Brest.

Also my general trick was if I was buying a pastry for breakfast, I would buy two. And even though the other got quite smashed, I would carry it in my bag and when I got stuck in line for something, I would eat it. Then you always have energy.

AND AMORINO. I don't even really care for ice cream or gelato.. and I know it is Italian.. but it is INCREDIBLE. I actually liked it better than Berthillon.

(Not to mention: are you avoiding Laduree for any particular reason? Even if you get just one vanilla macaron, I promise it will be great.)

#13--Yes, the pate de fruit was INCREDIBLE.

Also, if you drink tea--at all--then please go to Mariage Freres! I also ate there a lot and loved it, but really even if you just got tea-leaves to go, I promise... it is so much better than the US.

And it's not a hot-spot, but in case you need a cafe with great customer service, attention to detail, good wine (although I have limited knowledge), and just all around great ambiance... Comme Chai Toi (near Notre Dame).

Weight Watchers Foodies -- The Back to School Edition! September 2014

I have to be in a wedding at the end of the month... so:
--No sweets or processed food until the end of a September (meaning: a slice of cake at the wedding).
--Keep working-out each day. (Continue to add in weight-training too.) (Once again: if I workout each day, then I earn a workout shirt or shorts).
--No snacking in the office.
--No impulsive-buys.
--Continue to only have tea late at night instead of a snack. I used to be able to drink 3 cups of green-tea a day, and I would really like to get above 1 cup of green per day.
--Weigh-in at least once a week and start looking at measurements too.
--Worse comes to worse, if I mess-up: then don't dwell. Just go workout and don't think about it

Am I the only one who hates pumpkin but loves the holidays?

I thought I would just add to this discussion for this year--I also hate pumpkin, and it seems like the pumpkin-related products are already being pumped-out for the year. GROSS to me. Good for others. BUT EWW, I will not be purchasing them.

USA Yogurt Recommendations

Enjoy--I am not sure what Aldi's is like in the UK, but (pardon me for stating what might be in fact obvious), you will need to pay in cash only.

USA Yogurt Recommendations

I mix water into yogurt to make it less thick--could you buy a high-quality kind and just water it down? I know that sounds dumb but the cheaper yogurts in the USA like Dannon light & fit or Activa are super watery.. but you will want to avoid those (as others noted) due to additives. Therefore, I think it would be best to just buy high-quality and add extra water to the tub.

Also, I have never been to Aldi's, but I have heard they have some international products.. so maybe they would have something.

Weight Watchers Foodies -- The August 2014 Challenge Edition! [Old]

Thanks. I need to buy a tape measure--for now I used a ribbon and then measured the ribbon. My 'pooch' or the lower tummy area appears smaller, but it is still always going to be my problem area (since I was 12 or 13). --I had promised myself a new workout top if I went everyday this week.. and I did, but while shopping, I couldn't find anything. So I think I'm just going to make the same deal with myself for next week.

Weight Watchers Foodies -- The August 2014 Challenge Edition! [Old]

I am definitely down at least 1.5 pounds this week--despite eating way too many almonds and peanuts yesterday. Honestly, though I went to the gym every night so I would have expected to more of a change following weeks of no physical-activity in the summer, but I will take what I can get.

Also I was trying on dresses for an occasion yesterday and a woman at the store came over to help and said "You must be a __"--which was actually two sizes larger than my usual size. So I tried not to let that get to me, but it will definitely motivate me to know that I look that large.

Bite on one or both sides?

I think when I was young I worried my front teeth would somehow fall-out... despite that I no longer think that, I must have continued to still chew on the right side to avoid any discomfort.

I really like <fill in chain> and I look forward to returning

I am not sure if this counts... but I never stop for coffee.. so when I do stop it is the biggest treat. Therefore, Starbucks is my answer. Also if I am traveling and my flight gets delayed or some other problem arises, then going to Starbucks always resets my mood.

This is probably odd, but for natural nut-butters, I like to dump out most of the oil and turn it into a "nut-butter solid." Typically then each day I like to take out a chunk as a snack and roll it into a ball, then roll it in cocoa powder--like a solid nut butter truffle. BAM: mock-buckeye protein ball.

I don't eat burgers, but if I had a slice of pizza, I would either cut it up or still bite into it on the right-front-ish corner of my mouth.
