2. Chicago mix popcorn

Worst thing you ate before working-out.

Sugar-free candy. Wow, this is painful

Worst thing you ate before working-out.

What are the worst things to eat before working-out?

Pickles.. wanting water constantly.
Kimchi (when I used to eat it).. means tasting it the entire time
Tuna.. tasting it the entire time, wondering if I am sweating fish-smell
Butter cake or anything butter-heavy.. just felling gross and like you have a face full of oil

Bite on one or both sides?

I think when I was young I worried my front teeth would somehow fall-out... despite that I no longer think that, I must have continued to still chew on the right side to avoid any discomfort.

I really like <fill in chain> and I look forward to returning

I am not sure if this counts... but I never stop for coffee.. so when I do stop it is the biggest treat. Therefore, Starbucks is my answer. Also if I am traveling and my flight gets delayed or some other problem arises, then going to Starbucks always resets my mood.

Trader Joe's YAY/MEH/NAY - August 2014

This is probably odd, but for natural nut-butters, I like to dump out most of the oil and turn it into a "nut-butter solid." Typically then each day I like to take out a chunk as a snack and roll it into a ball, then roll it in cocoa powder--like a solid nut butter truffle. BAM: mock-buckeye protein ball.

Bite on one or both sides?

I don't eat burgers, but if I had a slice of pizza, I would either cut it up or still bite into it on the right-front-ish corner of my mouth.

Bite on one or both sides?

I hardly ever bite anything with my front teeth. I only would turn the apple to the side and try to use the right side of my mouth. --I know.. odd.

Trader Joe's YAY/MEH/NAY - August 2014

TJ's does not have a 'Chex'-kind of cereal. Usually when they show recipes similar to a snack-mix or Muddy Buddies, they make it with Puffins.. which is just not at all close to Chex, in my opinion.

Bite on one or both sides?

When you bite into something, do you always do it on the same side of your mouth? Or do you bite into--say an apple--on various sides?

I realized I only bite, and mostly chew, with the teeth on my right side.. I am wondering if this is odd or typical.

Trader Joe's YAY/MEH/NAY - August 2014

YAY--"Tiny blossoming plant"-I think that is what it was called. $1.99 and it is perfect for a desk at work. When I was checking-out three people got out of line to get one because they hadn't seen it.. which happened to me last time.

What are you baking these days? August 2014 Edition, Part 1 [old]

I will say this second batch... is soooo tasty. I added a teaspoon of cornstarch which made them bakery soft. Also I think I accidentally grabbed salted sweet-cream butter (I think my baking-fail made me frantic at the store to re-do the batch ASAP).. instead of unsalted, and MAN the butter makes taste so good. I think my grandpa will be happy.

What are you baking these days? August 2014 Edition, Part 1 [old]

When the parchment slid, the sheet/cookies flipped over and smashed.. so I am not sure another sheet underneath would help especially because my air-bake pan cannot fit on-top of the sheet with rims (I would use that sheet with rims, but it is very low-quality and produces nothing but bad cookies).

Anyway, batch two is now in the oven after going to buy new butter and while I was putting it in, the parchment sheet already started slipping again. I would put egg-white in between but don't want to ruin the pan by it burning the paper on-top of it.

Where can I buy these cute marshmallows?

Marshmallow Shop Yawahada.. they only ship within Japan. I found this out by Googling 'Cat marshmallow.' It did say that they are working on making international shipping available in the future.

Weight Watchers Foodies -- The August 2014 Challenge Edition!

I have just been eavesdropping. I am not on weight-watchers, but I am trying to get back to working-out an hour a day. And today I had almost a full morning and afternoon of intense climbing and hiking.. and a Atkins Triple Chocolate bar was a godsend every few hours.

I am not sure if people on WW can have these Atkins bars, but it had 160 calories, with 12 grams of protein and only 1 gram of sugar. I am not supposed to have a lot of sugar.. that's why I bought Atkins over regular energy bars, but it tasted as good as a brownie. I was blown away. It was very filling too for only 160 calories. Also, I have had issues with sugar-alcohols in the past and this bar does contain sugar-alcohols, but my stomach did not hurt at all.

Anyway, in case anyone is trying to workout and get protein in quick, I recommend it. I have also found that the days that I cut back on protein (especially for breakfast) are the days that I get off track. Don't skimp on your eggs at breakfast! And also if I can just stick to as much protein as possible (even if you want some crazy indulgent item instead), then you feel too full to want it for real. --Good luck.

What are you baking these days? August 2014 Edition, Part 1 [old]

I perhaps shall. I was raised on 'air-bake' pans.. that never have rims, but at my parents house, it is easier to extract things from their stacked, narrower ovens because the oven-door is not giant. In my apartment the oven-door is giant, so I end up standing pretty far away and reaching in (I am short, with proportionally short arms) ..so it's pretty hard to get the pan out. I think I should go on another baking-break.

What are you baking these days? August 2014 Edition, Part 1 [old]

Peanut butter chocolate chip cookies.. unfortunately, the parchment sheet slid off of the cookie-sheet as I was taking it out of the oven... and I could only catch half of the batch. EPIC COOKIE FAIL, and these were part of a gift for my grandparents!

Not to mention, I still have issues with this oven--it cooks the bottom of the cookie way more than the top. So that if you want the cookie actually baked all the way through, then the bottoms are brown. I have an air-bake pan and a 'regular' pan, and both result in the same undercooked tops and over-down underside. (I know its not the recipes because I have used the recipes at my parents house and I never end up with brown/dark-brown bottoms and undercooked tops.

Trader Joe's YAY/MEH/NAY - August 2014

YAY-Chicago Popcorn. It isn't Garrett's.. but it is pretty close, and you don't feel like you have been slammed by an indulgent semi-truck after you have some. Anyway, I LOVE popcorn, LOVE popcorn--so I'll be clear about my bias, but I've had Garrett's a lot, and I believe if you cannot make it to Chicago any time soon, then you can at least grab a bag of this until you can get a hot bag of Garrett's for real.

YAY-Again, also for the Greeting Cards. They seem to change it up a lot--which is good given that I think I might be the only one buying them. BUT: just grab a few Happy Birthday cards and Thank You cards and keep them in your work-desk, then every time some one has a birthday: MAGIC, you are the awesome person that totally remembered.

(I might be slap-happy from the popcorn, pardon me.)

Best wording to offer chef services as a gift to bride & groom

For example.. I am in my late twenties.. and I my answers would be:
1. No
2. No, sometimes I run out of forks. I have four forks. Four knives. Four spoons. I don't even have six of anything. (Not to mention if you were to cook at my house and wanted a blender... don't have one. Want a double-boiler? Don't have one. Want a pastry torch? Don't have one.) So before you cook there, you might have to bring your own tools and appliances.
3. No.. I would rather pay-off my lavish wedding (the hypothetical one) and/or college loans then put a dime down on someone else's idea for a dinner.. (I didn't even think of this.. why am I paying for it?)
4. Yes, that would cause an issue and the majority of my friends have at least one or multiple allergies and sensitivities.
--So if you do cook for them then you might want to ask for a sum-total (scroll) of allergies

If I just got married, I'd probably want to lay-low and not have a dinner-party at my house for at least some weeks or months (not to mention it seems common that a lot of newly-weds have a house full of boxes from all of the appliances and gifts from the wedding.. which also cuts down on room). So there is a good chance they wouldn't want to redeem the gift for some time.

(I do think that giving it as a anniversary gift is a good idea. That way if you're still in good contact then there is a good chance they actually might want you over to their house. I just know many of my parents' friends I do adore.. but I wouldn't want them waltzing into my house and pretending to educate us in our inferior ways when I am still getting over the party-bonanza that was my wedding, returning gifts, writing thank-you notes, sleeping, returning to my job, picking out the pictures from the wedding, ... possibly even moving into a new home, etc. --that all could occur after the wedding. After the wedding, my first priority would not be to appease a random wish of my dad's friend. I would have a laundry-list of post-wedding items to attend to. Probably major bills to pay that ranked higher than someone else's proposed dinner party.)

Good recipe for pate de fruits?

Anyone have success with a particular recipe for pate de fruits? I don't have access to glucose.. so I will probably try to sub corn syrup.

I am considering this recipe.. but I have never used that blog/site before, and therefore, I am wondering if someone has had success with another recipe.

Any memories of "poor people food" from your childhood that you still crave?

I never crave them.. but crescent-rolls around a hotdog. I also grew-up on Happy meals on the weekend, and I am pretty sure that is why I still use a LOT of ketchup.

I would think a lot gets used for almond butter too.

Has anyone you know ever actually gotten sick from eating raw cookie dough? [moved from Home Cooking]

No I have never gotten sick (not that I did this recently). I think I felt a bit ill from raw biscuit dough, but cookie dough is always fine. I have also never gotten sick from eating too many gummy vitamins.. which I used to do sometimes.

Oh good, money saved. I wrongly assumed you couldn't just replace milk in recipes (especially breads and cakes) with water.
