Best Seasonal/Holiday Trader Joe's Items.... for 2014

I think maybe there's a box of chocolate near Valentine's.. but not really much else.

Trader Joe's YAY/MEH/NAY - December 2014

YAY-All of the seasonal products are basically gone at my TJ's.. which means it is a safe place now.

YAY-Shrimp stirfry.. it is just shrimp with vegetables.. but the pepper seasoning is amazing, and I bought it with the Beijing vegetables with sauce, so if you mix them together it is all excellent.

YAY-Greeting cards. I pretty much say this each month, but love'em.

Oh man. Due to multiple days of medical procedures, I wasn't allowed to eat Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, or today... I could only eat Tuesday. I am so hungry!! I definitely plan to snag an extra Christmas cookie this year. :)

No I believe they didn't include the greens--they were in a bag. However, I'd rake any radishes, over none.

YAY YAY YAY-Trader Joe's finally has radishes! I am not sure if they are only seasonal or what, but I love radishes so this was great.

Yay-ish-Trader Joe's white chocolate chips are good. They don't taste too, too sweet to me.

Yay-Scone mix. I don't like scones and don't eat them, but I needed a gift to go in a box with tea and coffee.. so I made the boxed chocolate chip scones (added in the rest of those white chocolate chips). The scones took 2-steps and will definitely be enjoyed by my scone loving friends.

Coffee Before Your Meal - Love it !

I always drink coffee--especially with dinner. People think it is odd--especially because no one drinks coffee in my family. But I don't care. Coffee is my only remaining pleasure.

Yes, the danish chocolate ring is smaller and NOT a kringle. It is in a plastic, clear box. I had it a long time ago (maybe last year? or several months ago), but for me it was NAY NAY NAY.. not worth the calories because it was dry and tasteless. Very dry.

When someone offers me treats.. I just think: "No, save room for Christmas--everything tastes better on Christmas."

It really helps.

Weight Watchers Foodies - From the Frying Pan into the Fire Edition! December 2014

Due to illness, I have been mostly eating soft or liquid-type food. Thanksgiving was scary because I had solid food, but I am getting back on my liquid-plan now to avoid digestive-problems.

Regardless, my main plan is still this; the holiday is one day. Celebrate on that day; there is no reason to have treats beforehand (especially if/when they cause me pain).

Roast vegetables .. the night before

Thank you both for your prompt assistance. I won't be able to re-heat it at all in an oven because we are not meeting at someone's house (instead it's more of a hospice/care-facility for a relative)... but I will definitely just get it over with tonight so then I can breathe tomorrow morning.

Roast vegetables .. the night before

Tomorrow we are eating at noon and traveling ~3 hours beforehand. I have two 9x13 pans of vegetables to roast... would it work to roast them tonight, or do I need to wake up extra early and roast tomorrow?

Apologies if this is a really basic question, I never have tried the night before, and I am worried they won't be crisp and instead will be soggy.

Quick Gluten Free Brownies--from mix without oil/butter

I was testing out a gluten free mix and wondered if I could use pumpkin as a swap. I used a 20 oz gluten free mix, added nothing but 2 small cans of pure pumpkin puree (NOT pumpkin pie mix)... and baked it (at 325F) for the same time as the box called for with an 8 x 8 pan.. for about 45 minutes.

Put them in the fridge after they cool down and wait over-night.

This yielded very fudge-like 'brownies.' I hate pumpkin, but you cannot taste the pumpkin. --I definitely recommend trying this variation if you need brownies for a birthday or a holiday. The good part is that they are very rich (so at least for me they are impossible to over-eat: eat 1 and you're done).

NOTE: I post this because I have tried swapping 1 can of pumpkin with a GF mix, and it was too dry. However 2 cans seems to do the trick.

Trader Joe's YAY/MEH/NAY - November 2014 (Part II) [OLD]

Yes, those hand-creams last forever. Although they might not be as strong as Gold Bond for cracked hands.

Also, on the first half of the Nov. thread, I posted a YAY for the cupcake chocolates. They are adorable--the caramel one is the best! Make sure you get one with caramel inside. (I didn't really like the milky flavored one as well and the other kind was fine--but nothing was as good as the caramel one.)

Yes, I also thought the kringle wasn't the best.. too greasy, and now that you mention it: the almond-taste was quite fake tasting.

Weight Watcher's Foodies - Return to the Bermuda Triangle Edition! November 2014 [old]

I cannot tell you all how helpful it was to have someone post: "the holidays are just 1 day"--for some reason I think we/I have a knack for eating holiday-related treats for the entire season. However, I realized I will get to enjoy Thanksgiving and the day of each winter holiday if I keep the foods of the holiday sacred until that day.

Also, I decided to buy all of the cheat-oriented, seasonal foods that I wanted to try at TJoe's (which--since they are seasonal/rare are my greatest temptation) by bringing them with me to my book-circle, so that I could try them and not over-eat them. I got my snack-week over without even dirtying a dish. And now I won't be tempted to break from my healthy routine in the weeks leading up the winter-holidays.

Gluten free brownies - need help!

Yes, I have to agree--I have had good luck and actually enjoyed the King Arthur GF Mix and also the Betty Crocker GF Mix. KA used to have mini-chips in it too.. which it longer does, but I think adding an extra cup of chips to a mix always helps keep it moist the next day.

Best Seasonal/Holiday Trader Joe's Items.... for 2014

Yes, it is $9.99 for a big red tin full of European butter cookies--some are covered in chocolate, some are little rolled cookies, some are uncovered, and so on. They probably have more, but there were only 3 left on the shelf at my store.

Best Seasonal/Holiday Trader Joe's Items.... for 2014

I also posted some of these on the November thread... however, I realized many are seasonal products--so I should post them here too:

YAY-Assorted Cupcake Chocolates.. These are tiny little chocolates in the shape of cupcakes. (The November 2014 thread has the picture.) I thought they were a little too rich for me... but my book-group emptied the box of 9 in 2 minutes.

YAY-Dark chocolate Caramellos. I think that is what they were called--they were caramels+marshmallow on top, all covered in dark chocolate). The book group also took these down. I had one--and I don't think I could have another.. also too rich for me.

NAY-Iced Cranberry scone cookies. Dry.

MEH-new Macarons des Fetes. I prefer the vanilla and chocolate ones. These flavors somehow just didn't seem deep enough.

YAY-Peppermint Slims. I really didn't get why people were obsessed with these... but then I tried one. I will never buy these again--too good--and not to mention, I don't believe the nutrition-stats.. 140 calories for 4.. 35 calories per pretzel.. I doubt that.

YAY & NAY-Almond Kringle. Others liked this in my group, but I just couldn't take how greasy it was

Finally, there were tons of new/returning seasonal sweets above the frozen cases.. peppermint cremes, the flight of chocolate bars, the European cookie tin, etc.
--I have used the European cookie tin as a hostess gift or white-elephant prize/gift, and it is always appreciated.

YAY-Assorted Cupcake Chocolates.. These are tiny little chocolates in the shape of cupcakes. (In the picture, the real chocolates are at the top of the image.. yes, they are precious.) For some, they might be too pretty to eat. I thought they were a little too rich for me... but my book-group emptied the box of 9 in 2 minutes.

YAY-Dark chocolate Caramellos. I think that is what they were called. The book group also took these down. I had one--and I don't think I could have another.. also too rich for me.

YAY-the new Popcorn chips. These are much better than rice cakes and much better than pop-chips. And pretty light on calories. I would really like another bag because I ate 1/2 for dinner in the car.

NAY-Iced Cranberry scone cookies. Dry.

YAY-Fresh cranberries. These are always bigger and better tasting than other brands.

Finally, there were tons of new/returning seasonal sweets above the frozen cases.. peppermint cremes, the flight of chocolate bars, the European cookie tin, etc.
Plus, it appeared that there are new prep salads.. including one with 3 shrimps (which was tempting, but then I realized it only included 3 shrimps).

I have been sticking to clean, healthy, mostly raw foods through out the day--despite the arrival of seasonal food at TJ's and candy/food everywhere at work. If need be, I will have one bite of the tempting item--decide it's really not that good and leave it at one bite.

For dinner I have been having only one bowl of soup. And now I am hardly hungry at all in the evening.

Trader Joes for Thanksgiving

Yes, you might want to look at the November TJ's thread from last year to see the YAYs and NAYs. But regardless, they do not do 'pre-ordering' or reservations like WHF or another store. In fact, if you want something Thanksgiving/seasonal-oriented, you might be best buying it now and sticking it in the freezer.

Over the years I have tried some of the Thanksgiving side-dishes in the prep-foods section (including the squash au gratin recently), and I was NOT impressed. I don't eat meat, so I cannot comment on the turkey, but I would probably shell out about $10 more than what TJ's would cost and just order from a local family-style restaurant that is offering a Thanksgiving-mini-feast.

Yes, I unfortunately bought the pumpkin instead... good thing I found other people to eat it. And it was very greasy--so if anyone has had the almond one, let me know if it is greasy.
