Best Seasonal/Holiday Trader Joe's Items.... for 2014

YAY-Cranberry Goat Cheese log. I don't even like cheese.. and yet, this is incredible.

YAY-Pumpkin Croutons. My beau ate the box in a day... I think that means approval.

No, I don't. Although I have thought about getting a FITBIT or other device because then I would have to face the facts, I am worried about the security risk (studies have shown people can hack into them and take info about your identity). Does anyone recommend a Fitbit or tracker?

Weight Watcher's Foodies -- The Falling Leaves Edition, October 2014

I am not hosting, but I will be responsible for several dishes. And in general I need to hold myself more accountable for what I eat on the weekends. For some reason, there is always food in the office on Fridays.. and if/when I have a treat, then I tend to excuse other treats on the weekend. And the weekends turn into a free-for-all. However, once the week starts then I am back to selecting good options... I am guessing that it has to do with work-stress.

I basically just blew the whole month (due to injury I couldn't workout.. and being in a relationship means eating-out/trying new foods more often)... discouraging. With the holidays coming next month, I am not sure how to have a sensible/realistic plan.

Trader Joe's YAY/MEH/NAY - October 2014 [old]

Yes, since they are not formed, then one must use a spoon... which becomes dangerous. French's are easier to use and eat... I just don't understand why people like TJoes's version so much when it is so greasy.

PS. I think I will change my MEH on the squash-gratin.. to a NAY. I was hoping I could take it to Thanksgiving as (my) vegetarian option.. but I'd rather bring tofu and get nasty looks than eat the nasty gratin.

(Also I saw a HONEY TRIO.. I am not sure if this is seasonal or new, but it looked pretty. I think it was $10 though, which seemed indulgent to try-out when it is probably a gift-set.)

YAY-Julienned Cut Root vegetables--I didn't get to bake them in the oven yet.. and I wish they were longer like fries, but I warmed some up, and if they stay around, I will definitely be buying them each week. (Bias: I LOVE root veggies.)

YAY-Cranberry goat cheese log--I don't like cheese, but I love everything cranberry.. so this is great. Too great.

MEH-Squash and Spinach Au Gratin--Watery. You are better off just buying a squash.

YAY-Pumpkin croutons--I don't like pumpkin, but beau loved them. I tried a few.. taste very sweet to me. Is this a crouton or a mini dessert?

NAY-Fried onions... sorry to be basic, but I prefer French's because TJ's are greasy and not formed (into rings): too messy.

Best/worst Thanksgiving ever...

Short-story:
Power went out.. and part of house was under-water (plus sewer-junk backed-up in our showers and tubs)..

..so our parents made us pancakes. We were grateful.

Yes, the sweet & spicy ones are in a smaller container which helps (if you tend to eat too many). Also if you just want a lighter edition, then you can buy the bagged spinach salad that comes with sugared pecans, cranberries, blue cheese, and a dressing of some sort. Then you get your sweet-pecan fix and have some healthy salad on the side.

Weight Watcher's Foodies -- The Falling Leaves Edition, October 2014

I have been having a lot of root vegetables and big salads with dinner. I think I've been eating too much protein (if that is possible as a vegetarian).. so I have cut back on that. And I have been having one treat per week (on the weekend).

The cold makes me want to get-moving, aka. workout. So this week I have been back full-time to everyday workouts. And this is probably dumb to mention, but I think stretching before breakfast not only makes me feel more awake but leads me to make better food-choices.

But keep an eye out for the other circular star "Drizzle star cookies" are good. They are bigger in a package with a clear cover and stacked upright in a box.

The good ones....!

I have never had panettone--perhaps it would be good and easy to take to a party. My family usually also says..
-- YAY to the chocolate drizzle star cookies (not to be confused with the dripped shortbread stars.. which are eh).
--YAY to the Edel-Marzipanstollen from years past. (Although the ones at World Market are even better! But if you don't like driving around, go for this.)

Not that they are out yet, but I appreciate the heads-up on the Panettone.

That's too bad that you find it complicated. I am sorry; I don't really care for the taste of pumpkin--thus, I find it helpful to have a thread devoted to all holiday items (especially because many are available in limited-supply so it is helpful to get updates/recommendations quickly before possible gift-items sell out).

However, you are under no obligation to read it.

In case you have comments on the seasonal/holiday foods too... I have started a separate thread (with two links to past seasonal/holiday foods at TJ) here:

Thanks!

Agreed YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYA... now I am never buying it again though. Too good to buy again. And if you mix some with coffee, it's just absolute.

Can someone clarify... is it just straight-up gelato? Or is there a swirl.. or mix-ins or anything?

NAY--Mini bags of popped kettle-corn--I thought this would be good because I have no control around popcorn. Unfortunately it is tasteless.

(I will return to buying the herb & dill popcorn on-occasion.. which is a YAY for me or the french-butter popcorn on-occasion, which is also a YAY for me, even though I know others hate it.)

Weight Watcher's Foodies -- The Falling Leaves Edition, October 2014

Last month and August, I was solid: every day working-out.. only protein and veggies. I was very motivated because I had an event to dress-up for; I think because now the event has passed (and my efforts didn't show in photos or appear at all), I am having trouble getting back on-board.

Well, I have had almost a week off from physical activity--which usually gets me down, and then I start eating non-food (meaning: processed food and impulsive-buys at TJoe's).

Therefore, my only October goal is to return to working-out everyday. Usually when I return to that, then all I want all of the time is protein and whole foods.

I returned some of the nays/mehs (along with the egg whites in a carton that I always buy.. but the seal seemed somewhat unsealed)--even though I hate returning stuff... got $21 back. YAY.

Oops, maybe wishful thinking.. or the fact that many of them seemed kettle-style toward the top of the bag.

NAY--Cocoa and creme Cookie Butter... I haven't seen this announced anywhere.. but it is oreo-type cookie butter. I took the tiniest sample out (220 calories per serving.. yikes) and then dropped it off in my office-kitchen at work. To me it just tastes like oil. Other people liked it... but--it is not worth buying in my opinion.

YAY--Coffee blast ice cream-I can't have too much, but this is good from what I tried. My beau ate the rest in about 10 minutes.

Nay--Cookie butter ice cream-Eh. There was a slight swirl that we found, but otherwise it seems like someone stepped on a packet of cookies and then they dumped the cookies in.. which is just boring compared to the depth of the coffee blast ice cream.

MEH-Pumpkin kringle thing--I HATE pumpkin.. but beau loves it. So I ate some of the outside+frosting, that was good. I think $6.99 is great for a big giant thing that would probably make one's co-workers happy.
(By the way: it gets greasy when you warm it up. FYI)

YAY--South African Chips-I thought the favor was great. I think they kind of failed on the kettle-aspect.. but I like that the spices are a bit different than generic chips.

NAY NAY NAY-GROSS-Cowgirl Bark--Messy execution. I have a high tolerance for sweet things--yet I spit out what little I put in my mouth. If I lived closer and cared more, then I would take this (And the cocoa+creme-cookie butter) back for a refund.

MEH-Pecan Pralines-I think these are also overly sweet, but I am saving them to replace Halloween candy because 1 praline is enough to crush your sweet craving and leave you not wanting any more.

MEH-More Than a Mouthful Trek Mix--Same as pralines, the stuff in this mix is overly sweet and 1 piece goes a long way.

YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY--Fig and Olive Crisps-I love figs. And I am coming around to olives.. but these make me love olives even more.

NAY-Pumpkin Walk into Bar-Beau tried these; he said they were dry as hell.

NAY-Gummy Tummy Halloween--I know people have loved the gummies.. and gummies are one of my favorite foods, but I thought these were very very greasy.

YAY AGAIN-Greeting Cards. I always stock up to put a bundle of cards in my desk-drawer at work.. and this month they have even better messages and images. I am a bit worried because the card-section seems to be half as big as it was last year... BUY CARDS so they keep making them. They are always 99 cents and always seasonal.

Frozen Chinese food?

I am curious to see if anyone has found something good. I grew up around a lot of authentic Chinese food... so I have never AT ALL liked any of these frozen-boxed editions.. except Trader Joe's has okay options of frozen "Americanized Chinese"-flavor based foods (pretty far from authentic).

Guiltiest Guilty Pleasures

WoW--that might be a cheaper, faster version of my high school treat.. which amounted to buying a pint of Ben & Jerry's and warming it up in the microwave for about 15-20 seconds.. and mostly just excavating the mix-in's, candies, brownies, cookie dough bites, etc.
