Playa Cabana, Mexican -111 Dupont, a quick review

Tried this location. The space was really cold - don't go on a cold winter day. Food was a bit expensive and greasy. Overall, an ok experience, but nothing worth repeating IMHO.

Hog town Smoke Restaurant (queen/woodbine area)

Went here recently. It was underwhelming. Not bad, but not amazing. I would say the sandwiches need more meat on them (for the price). Sides were generously portioned. Good variety of BBQ sauces.

South China Restaurant on Mt. Pleasant Ave. in Toronto. Have you tried their take-out?

Hah, I was probably one of the little girls you were smirking at. I do have a soft spot for that restaurant :D Thanks for sharing.

South China Restaurant on Mt. Pleasant Ave. in Toronto. Have you tried their take-out?

You know where I would surprisingly recommend in North Toronto is C'est Bon for delivery (or take-out). It is not amazing but it is pretty good for NT. I used to go to South China as a child and liked it, but I don't think it holds up anymore.

Chinese Traditional buns

I went there over holiday and had a few amazing dishes. The Mao Po Tofu was great, the dan dan noodles are yummy. Also the dill and prok dumplings are good.

However I heard there was some sort of altercation there recently and it has been closed. Does anyone know what happened and if the staff is all ok? The articles are vague and I can't tell if it was someone who worked there that was killed.

Chowhounds best 10 Resturants in GTA - 2012 version

Some Repeats from above (no order):
Khao San Road
Cava
Foxleys
Zen
Hanoi 3 Seasons (food not atmosphere)
Corner House
Hogtown Vegan
Starfish

Sorry, can't come up with 10.

P.F. Chang's ?? [moved from Ontario]

I think anything I have to say would be redundant. However, I want to reinforce the point that P.F. Chang's is really not good. If I want a chain for Chinese food I will stick with Asian Legend:)

Bad Experience at Sotto in the Village

I just went to lunch at Sotto in the Village. I mentioned right away I was on my lunch break and pressed for time. This did not effect our very slow service.

First the single very small cup of coffee my step dad ordered was never refilled and cost $4 and the cream had black specks in it. Second we ordered sandwiches and they took about 45 minutes + to make. Third none of this was followed by any sort of regard for my request for a speedy lunch.

I understand that maybe this restaurant might not cater to the business lunch crowd, but feel that it is good service to let someone know it might take longer then requested. I am not big on writing negative reviews but am quite frustrated with this experience.

Curious to see any one else's thoughts on this restaurant. The food was good, but service was abysmal.

Xoco Cava Croissant. So good.

Where to go for GOOD SOUP

I really like the Grouper Soup at Hanoi 3 Seasons (Cha-Cha). Not sure on their Pho, but I bet it would be less salty.

Kaji is full, I've been to George- Any other plces of this calibre in Toronto for my birthday?

Zen is one of my favorites. Can you request to sit at the bar? I feel like that helps make the experience.

George or Cava

I think hands down Cava is the better option. They have amazing customer service and the food and wines are great (wine by the glass is a good option for a bigger group if people can't settle on a type of wine).

I immensly disliked George, not for the food quality, but for the service. I had to flag down service after sitting for a good 20 minutes and then was met with no apology when I was finally served. I should probably give it another chance, but there are so many places I would prefer to go.

Khao San Road vs Sukho Thai

I really like both. I find the Pad Kee Mao is more flavourful and spicy at KSR (Thai spicy is hot enough for me) where as ST Thai Spicy could be a bit hotter.

I have never actually had Sukho in house, only ever take out.

I love the staff at KSR. Is it wrong that I ate at KSR 3 times since last Friday and had take out from ST once this week... I think I have a problem.

Best Thing You Ever Ate - Toronto

I have a new one. Tried the Khao Soi at Khao San Road last night. So very very good.

SUKHO THAI - what's going on?

Yup, I ordered it again today! Eating it right now and it is totally right. One thing I will say is the quality varies, this time it is as good as Khao San Road, last time not nearly as good.

SUKHO THAI - what's going on?

Really? That is bizarre, we have literally ordered it every week since around March (addicts maybe?) and never had a single order messed up. Maybe I have very good luck. Sorry to hear my method does not work for everyone :(

SUKHO THAI - what's going on?

Early afternoon (first opening) delivery is still good. You may have to call a few times to get through, but it is prompt and order is always exactly right.

No where near as tasty as Khao San Road, but still better than most thai.

Oh I remember one now: as mentioned above: entire tasting menu at Zen!

Best Thing You Ever Ate - Toronto

Pad Kee Mao @ both Sukho Thai and Khao San Road (Thai Spicy)
Pho Tai @ Pho Dau Bo (in Streetsville)
Grouper Soup (Cha Ca) @ Hanoi 3 Seasons
Doubles at Carribean Bistro
Burger at Queen and Beaver (I know I am alone on this one)

I swear I like some high end dishes too, I just can't think of them now.

Day trip to Kingston

I am not a fan of Chez Piggy. I think the only thing that makes it worthwhile is the Patio (which is very charming). I mean it is not bad, it is just not that good.

2011 Food and Resto CLOSINGS

What is happening with all these descent uptown joints closing.

Super sad about Chi Liu. I went to take a friend there last Monday to find the "for lease" sign in window.

I hope they do find a new location (maybe uptown as well).

Also on a nostaligic note sad about China House and holy crap LTW is going too, no more uptown dim sum for me. Sigh.

Bannock (An O&B restaurant)

I went last night. The food was good (not great) the ambience great, service excellent.

Food:
Chicken Pot Pie: to rich for me, and I think I tasted truffle oil, which did not suit it (or at least should be mentioned in description).
Steak: My friend head steak, he seemed to like it, but not love it
Split Pea Fritters: saw them, wish I ordered them, they look like yummier falafel

Menu Changes: I asked why they changed the menu, particularily why the Pho was yanked. Apparently it was not up to the level they wanted it, but they are working on perfecting it and will add it back on as soon as they feel it worthy.

I would go back, but am not dying to go back. Will watch menu for the return of the Pho.

Bannock (An O&B restaurant)

I have been passing by this place for weeks now, and curiosity has been peaked. Will have to go in and try the High River Pho.

Food and Drink near PUR Hotel in Quebec City

I just posted about Montreal too, but also am looking for some recommendations in Quebec City.

I am looking for a few quality recommendations near PUR Hotel in Quebec City. I think maybe something not to pricey, nothing terribly high end. Maybe even some sort of hole in the wall will do.

Also, a good bar recommendation would be appreciated, something like a microbrewery, with lots of great variety of Quebec Drafts. Maybe even eating there would be ideal.

I appreciate any recommendations.

Looking for a restaurant & bar/lounge near the W Montreal for late night food and drink

I am coming to Montreal this weekend. Looking for something sort of near the W Montreal. I was thinking of eating at Brasseire T, but am open to suggestions. I was thinking either something along that line, or maybe something closer to a Gastro Lounge type place. Seafood is good, spicy is even better, a bit dive-ish is appealing too. I know I am all across the board.

I recently was in Montreal and enjoyed Koko Bar, but might want to mix it up this time for some variety.

Thanks!

Yah, it is pretty good! I like the sushi chef, he is a real character. He will bring out some interesting fish if you ask. The sake flight is fun :)
