Indonesia Grand Bazaar

Thanks, Dave.

Do you know if the Indonesian food fairs have a set schedule - perhaps it is posted somewhere? Any contact info to determine if the fair is running a particular weekend?

In search of the best wings

The other day I had the opportunity to finally have chicken wings at a place regarded as having the best in NY- Croxley Ales. I have to agree- definitely the best wings after one drinks 10 glasses of their beer! The wings were dry, tasteless and without flavor. A true disappointment.

Now I am on a quest to find the best wings in the NY area. I don't have a sweet tooth so not looking for honey glaze/teriyaki/etc. Just looking for juicy wings that are hot/spicy and flavorful. Any suggestions?

Halal fine dining NYC

Unfortunately there are not very many halal establishments that qualify as "fine dining" in the NYC area.

I agree that Cairo steak house in Astoria is your best bet for halal steak. Other places to consider:

1. Mamak: a relatively new Malayisan restaurant that serves up fresh, authentic Malay cuisine.

2. Taci's Beyti: a Turkish restaurant in Coney Island, Brooklyn

3. Tre Piani: this is actually a restaurant in NJ, not NY; Italian restaurant which has a halal menu. I personally have not been there so cannot comment on the quality of the food but may offer what you are seeking.

Hope this helps!

Peter Luger: Williamsburg vs Long Island

Wanting to have the ultimate steak experience and know that Peter Luger is one (if not THE) best place to have it.

1. What is the difference between the Brooklyn and Long Island locations in terms of experience? Correct to assume to quality of service and substance the same?

2. How long (approx) in advance does one need to make a Sat night reservation for 3-4 ppl? Some idea would be helpful.

Thanks

Indo-Chinese in Queens?

I visited Tangra Masala many years ago and the food was great. Unfortunately, the place is small and often a wait - but well worth it. Since then, a lot of Indo Chinese places have sprung up, most of them so-so.

Recently tried a place called Sagar - food is very, very good. Well worth a try.

Best (Indian/Pakistani/South Asian/Mughlai) kebab in NYC or NY metro region?

Have tried the kabobs at Choopan Grill in Hickville - very good. I agree with you in that it is hard to find good kabobs in NYC.

Burgers on the North Shore?

I have tried some of the offerings here on the North Shore and can definitely state that Abigail's Bistro in Highland Park is definitely worth it. It was ranked by Chicago magazine in the top five for Chicagoland.

Have also tried the burger at Prairie Grass- also worth the trip.

If you are seeking more of a fast food environment, then you cannot go wrong with Five Guys (its a chain, but a good burger nevertheless). I know they have a restaurant in Vernon Hills.

Info Needed to Make It An All-Round Great Trip

My wife and I enjoy and endeavour all types of food- whether it be Chateaubriand or Cous Cous...however, as I eluded to...kids will be kids (they, of course, having a preference for finger foods like burgers or pizza). Will be staying at Loews Coronado.

I suppose a week full of a taste of all that San Diego has to offer...no restrictions with regards to ethnic, $ (but then again, try to refrain from recommending places on par with Alinea), or neighbourhood.

Would love to see San Diego's response to Peter Luger's and Spiaggia -- but open to suggestions of more casual scenes.

Info Needed to Make It An All-Round Great Trip

Salutations to my fellow West Coast Chowhounders,

Will be coming to San Diego the end of this month for a family vacation (for 1 week) - will do what, I suppose, the usual tourists do in San Diego i..e Zoo, Seaworld, Animal Park.

Would like some good recommendations of definite places to dine while visiting. Should take into account will be travelling with children (less than 5 yrs of age).

Much obliged!

Seeking Great Brunch in North Suburbs

I have been residing in the North Burbs of Chicago for nearly two years now -- am getting bored with limiting my weekend brunch escapes to Walker Bros. Does anyone have any recommendations for very good weekend brunch/buffets in the North Suburbs (Evanston, Glenview, etc.)? Would love to indulge in great quality smoked salmon and bagels.
