August Honeymoon in Provence - Avignon, Lourmarin, Bonnieux, Lex Baux de Provence

Been to Arles several times and stayed at Hotel l"Particulier. The setting is as romantic as it comes. Out of the bustle of the crowds. Breakfast in the morning under the plane trees and overlooking the charming courtyard and pool. Great place to return in the afternoon after a day of touring to sit by the pool or have a massage. It is conveniently located yet you enter the door into the complex and the world goes away. I'd go there on my honeymoon!

nicoise dining recommendations

My husband and I will be in Nice for 3 nights in May on our way from Avignon to Florence, Italy. We have only day-tripped to Nice in the past, so look forward to having time to discover more of the city and its food. We plan to eat at Keisuke Matsushima the first night, but we would really like to taste more representative regional food the other 2 nights or lunches. Of course we will spend time at the market to taste and see the local and typical food products. I now need some recommendations for 2 dinners and lunches. We were considering taking the train to Villefranche to eat on the harbor at Le Mere Germain. Is there someplace on the water to eat in Nice where we can have bourride or bouillabaisse and the ambience we enjoy at Mere Germain? Where and what else would be representative regional dining ?

Cowichan Valley in August

We love the Cowichan Valley with all its farms, wineries and artisan products. Can't beat Hillary's for cheese or a light lunch, True Grain Bakery of coffee and breads and pastries, The Masthead for dinner, Amuse Bistro near Shawnigan Lake, or Merridale Cidery's bistro for lunch or cider tasting. Also check out Stone Soup Inn near Cowichan Lake. The ultimate dining experience on Vancouver Island is Sooke Harbour House but it is almost an hour's drive from Cowichan Bay. We stay there 3 times a year and love their creative food and presentation. Much easier to relax and enjoy if you actually stay at the inn. There are also some casual seafood restaurants on the water on Cowichan Bay and bistros in downtown Duncan. There is lots of good food because the products are so fresh and local. Several good wineries where you can taste the locally grown wines in the Valley if that is of any interest. Don't miss the homemade ice cream at Udder Guy's on Cowichan Bay.

Aussie Chowhound visiting Vancouver

For a smaller, more "boutiquey" hotel near Coal Harbour, check out The Loden. We have stayed there many times and have always been pleased with service and comfort. We love the Fairmont Pacific Rim, but it is larger and more expensive than the Loden. Both are very modern yet warm and inviting. We have enjoyed Oru Restaurant at the Fairmont for Pacific Rim food and breakfasts. The Loden has just overhauled its restaurant style and menu to a bistro. Haven't gotten to try it yet.

Mothers Day meal: French Riviera, Vence?

Last May my husband and I were in St Paul de Vence and Menton. We took the train to Villefranche( just east of Nice on the train line) on Mother's Day and had a delightful meal at La Mere Germaine overlooking the Mediterranean. If you are in the mood for fresh seafood or bouillabaisse while sitting at white linen tablecloths 10 feet from the turquoise water, then you might enjoy this restaurant in this cute little seaside town.

Need recommendation for 2 nights in St. Emilion in May

My apologies for my failure to mention the train. I had mentioned it in another post on a different site, so it was an oversight with Chowhound. We live in the land of the car so enjoy the opportunity to travel by train in Spain and France. Sometimes it is more limiting in our accommodation options, but the chance to travel the country where my husband has the chance to see the sights is worth the compromise. I will be more specific next time.

Need recommendation for 2 nights in St. Emilion in May

Sounds perfect except we will not have a car. We had planned on taking the train to Libourne, taxi to St. Emilion town center. Hoped we could access decent dining in the old town area by walking to and from dinner and spend some time tasting the Bordeaux wines. Would it be better to do so in the city of Bordeaux?

Need recommendation for 2 nights in St. Emilion in May

My husband and I will be traveling from a week on the coast in San Sebastian in mid-May on our way to Paris.. We are considering a 2 night stopover in St. Emilion. We are not looking for haute cuisine but prefer bistrot type food, typical to the area, to pair with their lovely wines. We have never visited the Bordeaux area, but we were advised to stay over in St. Emilion. Any suggestions?

best Italian restaurant in Vancouver?

We will be visiting Vancouver in November. Always have our favorite restaurants to enjoy dining, but would love to add a night of Italian or Mediterranean. Has anyone tried Lupo since it reopened? Any other recommendations?

Avignon Dinners

We are returning to Avignon for 4 days in May. We were there last May and enjoyed dinners at La Fourchette and Numero 75. This year we will be there 4 nights. We are considering a day trip over to Arles Wednesday for the market, then maybe lunch. We do not have a car so are pretty committed to dinners in Avignon. Any recommendations?
