Specifically referring to lunch(es) @ Caesar's . . . (11-12 Sept. 2014)

It's been 3 years since my last visit but I really enjoyed payard. fantastic macarons too!

Which Churrascaria?

sorry, I'm still bitter from being dragged there by a friend for dinner a few months ago. for that amount of $$ we could have had a fabulous meal at any number of restaurants. I seriously would have rather gone to cici's then Fogo.

I completely agree with your description of the meats. I would rather go to texas roadhouse get a decent steak and have all you can eat peanuts at half the price.

Which Churrascaria?

If you're into medicore/bad food at a good value you should check out cici's pizza. $5 for all you can eat, if you have a big appetite that could make it $1/lb ;)

lunch for $40 should get you something pretty great...

Alize - review is coming, but first a question to the CH community

Looks like someone from the restaurant checks this board. glad they got it fixed. however, $4 duck breast is still available, get it while it lasts!

I would guess you could substitute this group for the group underneath for $20...

the website is not edited well. on the a la carte menu the duck breast is a bargain at only $4!

Birthday coming up, Best French in town?

I usually get the 3 course. the fish dishes have always been nicely prepared (especially the trout). crepes for desert, or the iles flottantes for something a bit lighter.

Texas Monthly BBQ Festival 2014

never been, but why is it a scam? seems pretty pricey for AYCE Q but its nice having several great places in the same location.

Noteworthy HEB/Central Market Products

I tried some crabcakes (next to the seafood case) that were better then what I get at most restaurants

Sunday Brunch, downtown Austin, please!

I haven't been in a while but enjoyed Lambert's brunch. just be sure to stay away from the "bbq"

Sunday Brunch, downtown Austin, please!

i can't argue with the service or the setting, its the food quality that I don't think lives up to the price. again, if I were a big eater it would be worthwhile but gorging myself on solid yet unspectacular food at that price point doesn't make sense for me. i'm glad it works for you!

Sunday Brunch, downtown Austin, please!

I guess I'm not a huge eater and the price tag doesn't make sense to me when I can get excellent a la carte items for less $

Special Meal - Austin (Help)

thanks for the link. I went to mettle last night and really enjoyed my meal. I'd actually never heard of the restaurant before, doesn't seem to get much buzz at all. we got there at 6:30 which was early enough to enjoy the happy hour menu. the fried cotija cheese, scallop crudo, pork belly pasta, duck confit, and shrimp gratin were all very good. I'll have to add this place to my rotation.

we left at 7:30 and it was starting to get pretty busy and very noisy. the tables are very close together.

ps: you should add restaurant jezebel to your list

Gordon ruined El Greco. Can it be saved from the RIP thread?

this refers to restaurants that are actually owned by GR, not ones he helps

Special Diets: Restaurants, Shops & Local Products

thanks for the heads up about the beanitos. I'll have to give them a shot. which flavors have you tried?

As a type 2 diabetic who is required to do low carb I love this thread!

If you have any other good grocery items please let us know.

WTF, People! Wink - NOT Hungry by a Looooong Shot

its been a few years since my last trip to wink. I wasn't stuffed by any means (tasting menu) but didn't stop off at 5 guys after dinner.

Now, if you want to leave hungry you should check out restaurant jezebel. the food was pretty good but yikes, those are 5 small courses. luckily huts is right across the street so you can pick up a burger before the valet gets your car.

Dinner @ LaV.

stopped by earlier this week. the food was well executed and I enjoyed my meal. had the risotto and lamb. my better half had the corn soup (I didn't care for the popcorn) and the hanger steak. the lamb dish was much better then the steak (which was just fine). also got a side of fries which were very nice as well. opera cake for desert was a bit too chocolatey for me but she liked it. I'll be back.

visiting Austin next week where should I eat ,Barbecue other good food

the ribs at franklin bbq are the best i've ever had by a decent margin. only had it 3 times though because the line is intolerable.

Dinner @ LaV.

if you're asked "sparkling or still" the right answer is tap ;)

I went to Joel Rubochon in las vegas and ordered an iced tea. $7. I had two refills at $7/each. talk about a ripoff...

I guess compared to the 20k bottle 195 is reasonable... good thing i'm not an oenophile or I'd be broke.

Thanks for the nice review Mike, I'll have to try the place sometime soon.

Is Qui better than ESK?

I think we've had this conversation before :) http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/9706...

I also enjoyed some of the rabbit preparations (3 out of 7), the cheddar ice cream was good. the squid ink pasta was way too salty. its been a while since I've been and it looks like the menu has changed a bit.

not horrible at all, but not what I hoped for at that price point. there are just better options in town

haven't been to ESK but I wasn't a fan of qui. I'd go to barley swine, lenoir, or carillon instead

Anniversary Meal - This Weekend - 05/24 - 05/25

I think lenoir has great food. i wasn't a fan of the community tables though. can be really annoying if you're sitting next to someone obnoxious

Anniversary Meal - This Weekend - 05/24 - 05/25

restaurant week in austin doesn't seem to be a very big deal. you can see some recent posts about it... also, its from sun-wed so it ends tonight 5/21.

barley swine might work for you.
qui has been getting a lot of hype but I wasn't a fan
uchi (sister restaurant to uchiko) is always good

Austin Restaurant Week

i wouldn't mind if they cut portions but they should really put out some great food. Its a way for me to try places that aren't on my normal restaurant rotation and hopefully find some new places to add to that rotation...

The dreaded steakhouse question....

I really loved carnevino but ramsay steak was great as well. My better half is ruined for steak after enjoying carnevino's awesome dry aged bone in ribeye.
