Trying to get a handle on the Big Island

For sushi go to Monsterra which is in the shops at Mauna Lani - best sushi on the island and very close to the Fairmont. The owner/ sushi chef is Norio, whom is the namesake of the sushi restaurant at the Fairmont. Norios at the Fairmont now has a new chef and I have not tried it since the real Norio left, though reviews and pictures have looked promising.

Look into the Canoe House at Mauna Lani. Allen Hess is the chef there and he is getting great reviews. Many say he is the best on the island right now. I would go there over Browns. Also at mauna lani is a restaurant right on the beach by the homeowners area. The name escapes me but again very good and great atmosphere.
Four Seasons Hualalai is a magnificent property with some great options and the prices to match. I recommend the Beach Tree restaurant there.

In Kona, Rapanui is good - not fancy and no atmosphere, but good.
I would recommend Lemongrass in Kona for excellent asian inspired cuisine.
Have a great trip !

Honeymooning on Big Island, Where to Eat?

Skip Norio's (as Norio himself is no longer associated with the restaurant), and instead go to his new place - Monstera at the shops at Mauna Lani. It is the best sushi on the island - as well as great noodles and other dishes.

Hawaii with a fish allergy

You probably will not understand anything that is spoken here. Everyone only speaks Hawaiian and EVERY dish has fish in it. You should probably hide in your hotel and only eat room service chicken fingers. HAHA I kid - you will be fine just stick with loco moco and chicken dishes - as an aside I am so sorry that you have a fish allergy - if I could not eat sushi and fish I would consider Seppuku...

Need some Fine Dining in Kona (Big Island)

There are not many fine dining choices in Kailua Kona proper. If you must be in town, I would try La Bourgogne, or Huggo's. If you can venture a bit out of town, I would recommend Pahu'ia or the Beach Tree at the Four Seasons ( about 20 minutes north of Kona). Twenty more minutes north brings you to the Mauna Lani/Fairmont area - I would recommend both resorts main restaurants - Brown's Beach House and the Canoe House. The best sushi on the island can be found at the shops at Mauna Lani's new restaurant Monsterra. Further up the coast brings more good choices, but this is probably further than you want to be from Kona already. In south Kona about twenty minutes from town is Mi's italian restaurant - excellent "islandy" italian with locally sourced ingredients. Hope this helps - let us know where you end up

Where to eat after landing in Kona before heading to Pahoa

Pat is a great guy but his pizza - meh. Best pizza is Pizza Zacchini (sp?) by costco, second Kona Brew Pub if you know how to order it, and a distant third is Patz - I truly wish his was better as I live about 1.5 miles away.

Six Nights in Maui

I would recommend Lahaina Grill, HGS, Merriman's, and I'O.
I was never that impressed by Mama's - way too touristy, and not that great IMHO.
Sansei is good, but for the best sushi - hit up Koiso in Kihei - the BEST uni I have ever had
Also some other good spots in Paia - others can probably elaborate.
Have fun !

North Shore restaurants, have you tried any of these? Love/Hate/add others nearby?

Nothing better than Storto's after a good surf sess - get it with the papaya dressing

Best Poke on Oahu? (Need nearby Waikiki and North Shore suggestions, will have car)

Poke Stop and Tamura's are the best, do not know about Costco - but wouldn't you rather support local business rather than the megalomart that is Costco ?

Lunch between Keahole Airport and Kamuela?

The beach tree restaurant at the Four Seasons is great and has a kids menu, otherwise there is little else on that stretch of the highway to Kohala.
