Kingston chowhounders thoughts...

Hey all,

I'm a starving Grad student leaving town soon and am going out for one final, nice meal in Kingston. I'm leaning towards Casa, but am wondering if anyone has any opinions on it. My other choices would be Atomica, Chien Noir or Aquaterra. I want to choose wisely, as it will be one of my last meals here.

Can you get a decent martini anywhere in Canada?

it has nothing to do with the cost of the drink, bartenders are not allowed to serve a customer more than a double shot at any time. I have tried to order triples (back in university) and was firmly told no, due to the laws, at many different bars throughout the east coast. Doubles are the max, as bartenders have become more and more responsible in the intoxication level of the patrons. They just don't want any liability issues.

Lot 30-Charlottetown, PEI.

I have not eaten there, however some friends brought back some leftover duck with fig gnocchi and it was goooood.

All reviews have been overwhelmingly positive.

Bacalao St. John's

I recently at at Bacalao as well and it was wonderful. Had the caribou salad as an app. and it was cooked to perfection (very rare, so it wasn't too tough or gamey). My dining partner had cod tongues to start, and they were very good as well. I love how they bring the traditional dishes to a whole new level.

I had the special of the day, which was lobster with a sauce made from a local ice wine, and it was fabulous. Too often in the maritimes lobster is not prepared well and served with cold potato salad. This was a great meal, and I will definitely go back next time I am in St. John's.

Fine and local dining in and around St. John's, Newfoundland

Recently ate at Bacalao's in St. Johns and it was fantastic. Service wasn't exactly top notch, but everything from apps to dessert and the lobster main course was perfect. Decent wine selection as well.
