Where to eat with clients and vendors...

I'm having problems finding a place for Monday...are most restaurants closed on Monday there? Or is it a really busy night? Any suggestions?

Thx.

Where to eat with clients and vendors...

Expense account would be correct...Location shouldn't be an issue, though are there cabs available? I don't think they'll have a car. They're staying at the Fairmont I believe.

Thanks!

Where to eat with clients and vendors...

Hello all~

My husband will be in Montreal from Friday until Tuesday night. It's a last minute trip, but he needs a place for dinner each night. Price is not an issue, looking for upscale/ fine dining type places. When they travel in the states, they do a lot of steakhouses, modern American type places, but are open to anything really. Not stuffy would be good. A good wine list is important. It will be between 4-6 men each night. Any ideas for us??

Thanks in advance! I'm so jealous I'm not along for the trip!

How much shrimp for a shrimp boil and what to serve with it for a 40th Birthday Party?

I'm from AL, we eat lots of seafood as well! I'm still thinking I need to do something more though...I know there are a couple of people who don't eat seafood, so I need the muffs and veggies. It's not like that's hard to do though, I can do those the morning of or day before for the veggies and dip. As far as the oysters go, I'm not doing any of that, the shucker will. Yay for me!

How much shrimp for a shrimp boil and what to serve with it for a 40th Birthday Party?

I am doing the boil myself with the help of some friends...I was a cook in my past life before marriage and kids, so I'm not worried about that part. I am considering hiring a bartender and some serving/cleaning help, but haven't decided for sure yet. We're doing it at our house, in the yard, very casual. Knowing our friends people will jump in and help when need be. There won't be any plating and serving...it's a shrimp boil. You throw it out on a table and people serve themselves? Maybe I'm wrong, but every boil I've ever been to has been similar.

I'm not sure what I would need chasing dishes for either, but I do have a number of them actually. What would you suggest I serve in them?

As far as the oysters go, it will be set up as a starter. The guy will have a table and start shucking as soon as the first guests arrive and continue until we run out of oysters or throw out the last pot of shrimp. I'm assuming we're going to do a couple of batches, so I'm going to have him shuck until everybody is eating.

I'm going to call a local cajun place and see if they do meat pies.

Oh and LeslieinGa, there will be onions of course, but do people really eat them? What kind of onions do you use? I just use them to flavor the boil and then toss them. I've never though about serving them.

What didn't you like about them? I can't decide if I'll like the boil spice with the artichoke flavor.

Favorite Pioneer Woman Recipes

I love her Frito Pie recipe...it's a really good and easy chili recipe for a weeknight. I also love her creamy herbed potatoes. So not a diet food, but delicious all the same.

How much shrimp for a shrimp boil and what to serve with it for a 40th Birthday Party?

Planning a 40th birthday for my husband in late March and we're going with a shrimp boil/mildly New Orleans theme. We're inviting 80ppl, though I'm figuring we'll have about 50. How many pounds of shrimp per person should I be thinking? I'm doing the normal corn, potatoes and will be adding sausage as well this boil. I'm also having somebody there shucking oysters.

Besides quantity, what should I serve to start? I was thinking about making mini muffulettas, and the usual veggie and blue chz dip, since my husband loves that and anybody who doesn't eat seafood {I'm not sure there are any} can eat the muffs and veggies. I would love to do meat pies, but I'm not sure the feasibility of frying dozens of meat pies and baking them doesn't sound like a great idea. I need ideas!

Shrimp boil

I know this is an OLD thread, but I am planning a shrimp boil for my husband's 40th and ran across it. Anyway, I've never added artichokes before, but am interested in doing it this time. What do you do to prepare them before you add them to the boil? Also, how long should I cook them?
Thx!

Patois??

We had brunch at Patois this past Sunday and it was fantastic. Everything everybody tried was great...and I really want another cup of the rabbit gumbo right now. My husband was there for a dinner in October and loved it then as well. The brothers that own it are super nice as well. Not that easy to find if your driver doesn't have a clue where he is going as ours didn't. Thank goodness for iPhones.

Sunday night dinner...

We ended up tagging along with some friends to August, so we shall see how it is this time around. We went a couple of years ago and it was great, but I've read some things lately that lead me to believe it's fallen off. Oh well, the good company will make up for little mistakes...hoping for nothing big!

Galatoire's Friday Lunch - what'd I do wring?

So what time should we get there? In all the times we've been there, we've never managed to get in the 1st seating except once...which was pure luck because somebody didn't show up and I was the next person to ask! Anyway, we're going on the 6th, arriving Thursday afternoon, just so we're in time for Friday lunch {the Friday flight gets in at 11am}.

Sunday night dinner...

I need a great dinner on Sunday night of a 5 day eating, drinking, footballing trip in January. Probably for 2ppl, but maybe for 4 or even 6 if possible. We'll be doing Clancy's Thursday night, Galatoire's Friday lunch, Commanders {with a big group} on Saturday night and Patois for Sunday Brunch.

Thanks!

Last Minute Decisions - Help Appreciated!

I think Minetta for brunch and Keens for dinner would be a lot...That's a lot of meat in one day!

Best vegetarain meal at a "top" restaurant?

Is the polenta vegetarian? I would have thought it had chicken stock in it. A friend is going in a couple of weeks, I'll let her know!

An early morning breakfast joint in Gramercy?

I think they open at 7:30? Maybe 8?

Foodies dining with 7 year old plus need some recs

My husband loved the burger when we were there for brunch! Have fun!

Foodies! Looking for lunch place near the Met

I have my moments...I also took her to eat at the American Girl cafe...so bad!

Artisanal was not a hit with our daughter, she just didn't enjoy it as much as she did. She did enjoy Balthazar though. We were there on Wednesday and saw a number of kids there.

Foodies dining with 7 year old plus need some recs

When we were in town in March, we took our then 6 year old to Marea, Artisanal, Keens and Maialino. Her favorite was Marea, thanks to the amazing branzino we had and the pasta "that made her heart sing" She's got a flare for the dramatic, but the pasta was delicious. Her 2nd favorite was Keens. She loves Maialino as well. We did the Maialino dinner and she ate all the skin...the things you do for your children. :)

Luke's, UES

Had a late lunch there yesterday. Delicious! My husband did the Taste of Maine and he said the crab was better then the lobster, but not by much. I had just the lobster and so wish I had ordered two! So good...very hot inside, but totally worth it.

Breakfast on Thursday close to The Met

Well, after getting 4 hours of sleep in 48 hours before and not getting back to the hotel until 2am Thursday morning, we slept in. Oh well, I can now say that The Chambers has a very good room service breakfast, it comes from Ma Peche apparently. I had a ham and cheese sandwich with an egg on top at 10:45...so much for getting to the Met before it opened. But, we ended up joining the museum {we have a number of trips planned for the next year or so} and we got to go to the front of the line...so it all worked out! Now, if only my feet would stop hurting...found 50+ stairs to walk up out of the subway due to a broken escalator at 2am.

Foodies! Looking for lunch place near the Met

We saw the exhibit yesterday and then walked over to Luke's Lobster. Delicious! My mouth is watering just thinking about the claw meat right on top. My husband has the Taste of Maine {that's the name right?} and puts the crab ahead of the lobster, but the lobster ahead of the shrimp...but it was all great!

Breakfast on Thursday close to The Met

We were hoping to try Luke's for lunch, but maybe we'll wait for the next trip.

I've heard the exhibit is amazing. I'm as excited to see it as U2.

Breakfast on Thursday close to The Met

Thanks everybody! Saving all of these for future trips.

If we're not moving super fast, we'll try Cafe Sabarsky, but if I'm chomping at the bit to get there like I hope to be, Cafe Boulud it is.

Breakfast on Thursday close to The Met

In town for the U2 concert tomorrow night, but am also trying to catch the McQueen exhibit on Thursday morning. I've been told to get there as they open, so does anybody have a rec for breakfast close to The Met or our hotel{The Chambers}

I searched some threads and saw Cafe Boulud as an option...still a good choice?
Thx

Delivery cupcakes or cake for a birthday?

Thank y'all! I think I'm going to go with Piece of Cake, since they do deliver and the hotel also recommended them.

Delivery cupcakes or cake for a birthday?

My husband and I are picking up our daughter at camp in NC this coming weekend. On our way back home, we're stopping in ATL and staying at the St. Regis for the weekend. Our daughter's birthday is on Friday, so I would like to have some cupcakes or a small cake at the hotel for her. I would prefer to have it delivered if possible...any ideas? If not delivery, something close to the hotel or easy to get to from the hotel would be great.

Thanks!!

Ice cream place...

OK, this is going to be the worst thing I've ever posted on Chowhound. I know next to nothing about the place I'm asking about, but I'm hoping with my few clues y'all might be able to help. I'm so ashamed.

It's an ice cream place
Close or in Hendersonville? Or at least close to Tuxedo, where my daughter's camp is.
The person who told me about it says that they serve ice cream that is themed to the camps that are close to it?

I can't remember for the life of me who I talked to about this, so I can't ask again. They never told me a name.

Thanks for any help!!!
