Soy chorizo at Trader Joe's
My favorite taco/burrito place in Los Angeles (Hugo's Tacos) makes a soy chorizo, potato and zucchini burrito that is just heavenly with a honey chipotle salsa. The salsa is key, providing a nice sweetness to balance out the spice. But they also use small white beans (look like Cannelinis) cooked with sage and epazote.
I might be moving out of town and will need to try to replicate the burritos on my own. Thanks for the source on the chorizo!
Passage to India, Sherman Oaks -- disgusting!
Ordered some delivery from this restaurant tonight and ended up ordering a pizza after the food arrived because it was inedible. The vegetable samosas were soft and gooey. The Motor Shuti (spinach & garbanzo beans) was bitter and flavorless. The garlic naan was completely stale and was no doubt a leftover from the lunch buffet.
Stay away from this restaurant at all costs!
L.A.'s Worst Wine List...go!
Red, White + Bluezz Wine Bar in Pasadena -- they don't even list the vintages of the wine, at a winebar nonetheless... totally inexcusable, plus the selection and the food is horrible.

I believe that Erewhon's juices come from the Beverly Hills Juice Club (www.beverlyhillsjuice.com) which has a location on Beverly Blvd.

Wow! I had a completely different experience about 3 weeks ago when I was there. We ended up going for the 12-course vegetarian tasting menu and it was incredible -- easily the best meal I've ever had in LA. The service was outstanding. The sommelier, Bryan, was extremely helpful and he is definitely not a shy guy. It doesn't sound like Bryan was the one pouring your wines. My boyfriend goes there a lot and says that he's always had the same kind of experience. So I wouldn't give up on the restaurant... perhaps they were just having a bad night.

I'm open to all Sherman Oaks, Encino, Van Nuys, Valley Village, Studio City and environs.
Also I'm vegetarian, so sushi and steak houses are not of interest.

Vegas -- where to go for high-end vegetarian tasting menu with great wines?

My boyfriend and I are hitting Las Vegas in a couple of weeks. We are both vegetarian and we are looking for a very nice, romantic place to celebrate our birthdays. We would love to have a vegetarian tasting menu at a place with a great wine list.
Michael Mina is intriguing, but we're wondering if anyone has any other suggestions. I suppose most places would be willing to do a vegetarian tasting menu with advance notice... has anyone had experience with this at any top Vegas restaurants?
