one cent on rush street
I really do not like rush street. I don't like the vibe, the food and drinks were 'eh', and I hate the smell of truffle oil. I wanted to barf. I prefer to grab a drink at The Culver Hotel or Gyenari
Where is the best turkey burger in LA?
Co-sign! I am in LOVE with the turkey burger at Akasha. I usually get the salad instead of fries. The bun is delicious. The red pepper and olives in the patty are so good.
Need a Sommelier for a Private Function
I think 1st level will be fine. The event will be held at a restaurant, but they do not have a sommelier. A simple wine and cheese for about 100. Just someone to explain the wines and discuss pairings. I am purchasing the wines from the restaurant, but I want to secure a sommelier ASAP to help with selection.
Need a Sommelier for a Private Function
I need recommendations for a certified sommlier for an event this Fall. Preferably, one not tied to a restaurant.
Father's Office ~ Culver City, CA
WOW! I went last night and ordered take out. I got there around 9:30, so luckily no line. I love the bread. The burger was really good. I would probably go lighter on the onions. The servers were great and attentive. The sweet potato fries were outstanding. Well worth a trip on their own.
Father's Office ~ Culver City, CA
I'm going tonight. Can you order the burger to go? I don't feel like fighting for a table.
Do any stores carry tomato paste in a tube?
Whole Foods. I bought a tube about a month ago. It's pretty great.
Puerto Allegre, Pasadena Paseo
I went this past summer for dinner one Sunday night. . It was a group of 7. There was an onslaught of meat coming at us. We did have to request the lamb, duck, and other non-steak and chicken items. I would go back.
Ford's Filling Station - to go or not to go?
I've only been once in late 2006 or early 2007...can't remember. But, I really enjoyed it. The food was pretty solid. Our server was extremely helpful. I say give it a try.
I had Tender Green a few days ago. The online ordering is FANTASTIC! The food is simple, but good. I think the portions are a good size... well the salads and hot plates. Now, the veggie side, not so much. I liked the food at Fraice. I didn't have a problem with the hostess or wait staff when I went. I had to wait an hour. But, I walked in without a reservation during a summer weekend night. So, I didn't mind. However, I don't understand seating people outside when the dining room is empty.
Best Bar Food in LA
My friends and I made reservations about a month ago for the 15th. Of course, I had no idea that they would replay that Oprah episode that day. The people seated next to us came because of Oprah. *sigh* My friends and I feel that Oprah is out to destroy us.
Tea Houses and Loose Tea
Chado is lovely. I prefer the Pasadena location, but the Beverly Hills one is closer. Their tea service is so yummy. The Rose Sencha and the Cherry Sencha are my favs!
Parkway Grill in Pasadena?
I've dined there once, but it was fantastic. We had the flatbread to start. It was delicious. We all had steak, and it was really tasty. However, the service was wonderful. The manager came over and spoke to us often. We were celebrating a birthday, so the manager brought our friend a small bunch of orchids. Later, we received a little thank you note in the mail. It's that type of attention that I love. I just wish I lived closer to Pasadena. :(
Really Enjoyed Grace, but... (and photos)
I went for the first time this week. I was surprised at how large the portions were. Seriously, shocked.
Restaurants you will defend no matter what anybody says...
It's a little restaurant in Westchester. It's always packed. They serve lunch and dinner, but it's known for it's breakfast. The waffles are light and delicious. The french toast is heavenly...made with Hawaiian bread. The biscuits light and fluffy. But, EVERYTHING is delish. They also have very good coffee. They have a Hawaiian Hazelnut and a few other choices that are very satisfying. If you have a chance, please visit.
Here's the address and phone number:
The Coffee Company
8571 La Tijera Westchester (310) 645-7315
What is your favorite flavor at SCOOPS?
I went yesterday for the first time. I had the Chai and Avocado Banana. Both yummy. I will have to hit them up again next week.
Santa Barbara
I do like duck. But, it's something I rarely cook or eat. So, I decided I was going to have a nice vacation and live a bit. The Wine Cask duck was better. The Epiphany duck still had a bit too much fat for my taste. The duck at Wine Cask was juicy and very flavorful. The jus was delicious. But, I still liked Epiphany. I think I would go again the next time I go to SB. I'll try something different.
Best breakfast in L.A.
I love breakfast/brunch
My favs are:
The Coffee Company (Westchester)
Doughboys
Jer-ne
Uncle Bills (traditional, good breakfast)
The Kettle (not as much anymore, but worth a mention)
Restaurants you will defend no matter what anybody says...
Pinkberry-although I was surprised by how offended I was
Sweet Lady Jane
The Coffee Company (Westchester)-my favorite breakfast/brunch spot

I could not agree more. I'm a pretty easy-going diner. I also just love food. I ate about a 1/4 of my meal at The Stinking Rose. I love garlic and I rarely cook without it. But, the smell of the restaurant was overwhelming and made me sick. I cannot bring myself to make a return visit.
Bella Vita in Palm Desert
Can anyone provide me with a review of this restaurant? I spoke to the owner about hosting one of my client's events there. However, I have not had the chance to try the food yet. Thoughts?
Santa Barbara
I dined at Opal (lunch), Epiphany, and Wine Cask this past weekend. Opal was nice. Epiphany was really good. I ordered the crispy duck and it came with a foie gras risotto. I felt the fat from the duck was not rendered enough for my taste. However, the risotto was tasty. At Wine Cask, I ordered the vodka-infused potato soup. It was delicious. For my entree, I ordered the duck. The duck was delicious. Perfect. It was accompanied by a foie gras and cherry stuffing. Perfect sweet and sour.
I would recommend Wine Cask.
FRAICHE - culver city
I had the corn soup and the Lamb Spezzatino with Ricotta Gnocchi, & Gremolata. It was excellent. The lamb was so flavorful and well seasoned. I was very pleased. I would highly recommend reservations. I went on a Sunday without them. I sat and enjoyed some wine and was able to be seated in an hour. I wasn't in a hurry, so it was fine.
Persian food-- downtown LA/Boyle Heights
I work a few blocks away from Shekarchi. I love it. Especially, the rice with the cherries. Yum
Tiara Cafe
I work nearby and have eaten there a few times. It's really yummy and the food has a very healthy quick. One of my co-workers had to work hard to find the unhealthiest thing on the menu...but alas they have a burger and fries.
sweet lady jane- incredibly rude!
That's interesting. I've been going about 4-5 years now, and I love it! My friends and I usually have a good time talking and fooling around with the waiters/waitresses. I've only had one bad experience...a rude waitress. That was it. Otherwise, I love it there.
The dulce de leche is my favorite. I've ordered cakes for events several times. I'm there maybe 3-4 times a month. I find that there cakes are best when they have the chance to get to room temperature.
