tamales for fishing trip?
Was thinking about heading over to sunset park to buy a bunch of tamales for a fishing trip on Friday. Maybe 20-30 to share with a bunch of people on the boat. A question or two for the hounds:
1) is that even a good idea? I won't be able to warm them...but day old tamales taste pretty good right?
2) any suggestions on a grocery store/restaurant I could get 20 good ones at a resonable price?
Thanks chow pals....
Sorrel: Any recent visitors?
yeah...I'd like to chime in to say, we go regularly and really love it there. One plus (for us, but may be an issue for others) is that the portions aren't overwhelming which would relegate it to "special occasion" once every six months status. We go regularly and leave satified not stuffed.
Alexander is always helpful and attentive.
It doesn't have the slick feel of the bigger places in brooklyn, but I like the fact that there still can be neighborhood places that are a labor of love for a single person as opposed to a conglomerate managing multiple themed places (think Patois/Trout/Pacifica/Schnak).
I hope they can hang in there and make it work...
Sorrel - still a great inexpensive choice in the neighborhood.
There hasn't been much written on the board about this restaurant recently. I've been addicted to this place over the last few weeks and wanted to send an update. While it's not a *chowhound find* per se, it is a really solid neighborhood restaurant. Small, not too noisy, great food at a very reasonable price (for those who haven't been Sorrel borrows the 360 model of $25 dollar prix fixe all the time). Always interesting mix of German/Eastern European entress...
Had a family dinner there on sunday and everything was great. I started with the escargot appetizer - escargot studded with crispy garlic on a white bean puree. Had Schnitzel for the entree...which usually is a pretty heavy, but was surprisingly light with a mushroom sauce. Fantastic blinzes and fresh fruit for dessert.
Only con I can find with the place is the somewhat *eccentric* service.
Hope it doesn't fall victim to it's out of the way location and lack of foot traffic...would be a shame to lose another neighborhood place.
