Soy Sauce in Montreal

I agree and so did the chef at Miyamoto's cooking classes . He said Kikkoman is made in the states and batch is uneven ( quality control) and the low sodium stuff is actually saltier in taste!
I have their ( Yamasa) Mirin.

Your fave ice cream flavors from the Mtl ice cream shops

Choco orange at Bilboquet.I tried to stray but it's my favourite and i am boring. It's grand Marnier in a choco ball.
The mango/raspberry sorbets

Ripples: kulfi : the cardanum Indian sweet derivative. The chai one too.

I tried gelato at the boutique pizzeria Bottega - Hazelnut even better than Da Roberto's because it's artisanal ice cream rather than syrups.

Meu Meu the candied citron/lemon one. I didn't like the Lavender one.
Gelateria da Roberto: Back in 1983/85, they had this layered ice cream cake called Ile de france (they still do but its name has changed) - hazelnut , zuppa inglese and chocolate or caffe.
Bacio,Gianduja, zuppa inglese are still the best. Cantaloupe and strawberries go nicely together. They switched syrups from Fabbri to Pernigotti.

Haven't tried the ice creams at Marius and Fanny .No idea if Patisserie de Nancy on monkland ice cream as great as well.

Never had ice cream at Point G on Mont Royal either (G stands for gaufres and gelato -macarons now).G spot you know.
Havres aux glaces only had green tea.It was Meh.

Zeppole Time

I just saw an ad from Alati Caserta - a tad late for Zeppole-seems they carry many flavours of Zeppole. They were also advertising Easter stuff La Pastiera (Neapolitan wheat and ricotta pie with orange blossom essence/candied cedar/lemon) and how could I forget....easily forgettable.
They also sell white Marzipan Lambs for Easter - These are sicilian and I recall very HARD.I love Marzipan, this not so much since it's not edible.
I've had a Marzipan Lamb once at San Pietro bakery on Jean Talon East past Papineau. You can check San Marco (before Papineau) if they sell it but I doubt it. These lambs are way old school. Mostly, people didn't eat them and let them harden as a tchotcke. Plus you'd feel guilty eating the lamb of God during Easter.
Those are the only Easter pastries you could buy I could think of during Easter besides the packaged Colomba which is bland.
The rest are traditional homemade baked stuff like "dolls" with dyed eggs, mini wreaths with dyed eggs and breads and cheesy pocket pies either sweet with ricotta or savory with stinky cheeses. There's a whole different menu for la Pasquetta - Easter monday that depends from region to region.

Best Coffee in Montreal?

I second the best Espresso coffebeans to buy is at Caffe Lino in Little Italy. The place looks dumpy and the service is best kept to a minimum for your sake (no conversations). My friend from Brazil has put this in her GPS and has coffees at Epoca (daytime only /avoid weeknights).

Best pizza in MTL

Why would you eat a pizza at a place called Pendelis?Greek? They put same pizza sauce and pepperoni slices into lasagna!

Bottega is closest to come to real Italian pizza - they should know- they're neapolitan and have an oven from Naples to boot.
I concur their service is abismal /reservations a mere suggestion but they improved since my last visit. They even started making real gelato from scratch (not the Fabbri syrups like Roberto's and I think even surpassed it)

I saw a new one in St-Henri Pizzeria Geppetto. To the untrained eye, it sounds italian until you read the menu (spanish names Marguerita, dulce etc). It's owned by the same nearby Mexican Limon owners.

Even better than Bottega is Il Libretto in Toronto - they even got stamp of approval from the slow food Neapolitan Pizza Verace because they use the right tipo 00 flour - they use Canadian made mozzarella di Bufala.

Pizzeria Etc (514 494 0000) is very good. They even deliver in a funky box with a history of the pizza. Problem they don't deliver outside the eastend.Martin Brasseur is co-owner.They used to be more generous with their mascarpone and rucola pizza and put real wild mushrooms porcini, now just oyster mushrooms. Now even the basil is trimmed rather than full basil leaves in their Margherita Pizza.

Il focolaio is good for a pizza downtown.
Prato used be excellent at first but everytime I went there ona St-Laurent Street fair weekend and ate on the makeshift "terrasse" her husband said: sorry bathroom reserved for clients while I have been sitting out there waiting for my food. They're not from Marseilles.
Amelio, don't even mention it. McGill Ghetto.Gagilicious.

But if you prefer pepperoni, there's nothing to convince you otherwise.
In Italy, if you ask for pepperoni, you get green bell peppers. Once you go to Italy, you can't ever eat that crap again.

Zeppole Time

You were asking for Easter pastries. Very few bakeries only serve a delicate neapolitan wheat kernal ricotta pie called la Pastiera - orange blossom essence. Alati on Jean Talon St , St-Leonard.
Most Italian easter breads (like brioches) are homemade. I find Seraphim on St-Laurent- has portuguese breads similar to Italian homemade breads. No one makes a Milanese bread with almondy crust La Colomba in Italian bakeries when you can buy it storebought. Not my favourite. Makes Pandoro and Panettone taste moist by comparison.

For a baked ricotta zeppole, last year I tried Firenze on Belanger/Lacordaire.Surprisingly good for a dumpy place in a strip mall.
ixnay on caramel and blue jelly donut fillings from Amaretti/Baci.
I bought some today at Alati on Jean talon east for 2,50$
