Blue Dog Cafe

My wife and I have been a couple of times. Food was above average and service was attentive. Would recommend it.

Cochrane AB.... Where to eat?

My wife and I ate at the Blue Dog Cafe on Saturday. It was decent for sure. We had calamari to start which was pretty good but the sauce that accompanied it was really good. Fresh tomatoes and herbs, very tasty. She had the flat bread and enjoyed it. I had ribs and thought they were above average. Have seen varying reviews of the Blue Dog on CH but our experience was good. We would go back for sure.

Are you thinking of Emerald Lake Lodge by any chance? http://www.crmr.com/emerald-lake-lodge.php

Thai Food in Calgary?

Would agree with John that Ruan Thai is really good. Thai Sa On is also one of my favorites. Hard to choose between the two.

Visiting Calgary from Toronto

It's been closed for a while (> 2 months). AFAIK, there are no Krispy Kreme's in Calgary any more.

Good takeout in North Calgary?

On of our favorites is Saigon Pearl Restaurant which is at 901-9650 Harvest Hills Boulevard NE Calgary, AB T3K 0B3 (403) 532-3999‎ (Same strip mall as the T&T supermarket). Vietnamese style dishes. Everything is super fresh and flavors are awesome.

My Favorite Paris Guide

Thanks very much for the resource. It looks awesome!

Sobeys Urban Fresh, Edmonton (and other stuff)...

Yes Harvest Hills in N.E. Calgary.

Here is a link to the T&T website if you're looking for specific addresses.

What's up with Alcatra?

Thanks John. That's really too bad. Everytime I popped in for lunch it was always packed.

There is a dearth of good restaurants in this part of downtown and seeing Alcatra go is a darn shame.

What's up with Alcatra?

I've noticed that Alcatra (http://alcatra.ca/) at 1000 - 7th Avenue S.W., Calgary has had the doors closed for a couple of weeks now. There isn't any sign indicating they're closing and all the furniture is still there. Anyone know what might be happening?

I've had some really great meals there and it would be a shame to see it go.

hole in the wall - calgary

One of my favorites is Fresh Select Deli which is at 807 7 Street SW. It's very small, maybe seating 10-15. It serves your typical lunch fair but they have the best Spicy Chicken. I've been going here for about 15 years or so and while I've been tempted by other things on the menu, I don't think I've tried anything else besides the chicken.

Steak in Calgary

I had a very nice steak at Buchanan's last weekend (http://www.buchanans.ca/).

T.Spot Cafe... I could be lying

This isn't open yet. They do have boxes full of tables and chairs in the space now so hopefully soon.

I would recommend the Saigon Pearl in the same parking lot. (East side). My wife and I have eaten there a number of times and enjoy it a lot. Very tasty Vietnamese style soups and such.

Need some help in Calgary.

I would second Palace of Eats for sure.

The place on 8th is called (the?) Blue Olive.

Cochrane... anything to check out?

My wife and I had dinner at Saigon Garden. It's ostensibly a Vietnamese restaurant but the menu covers a bit more territory than a traditional Vietnamese restaurant.

We started with the spring rolls. They were so-so.

My wife had a Prawn Curry. It came beautifully presented with the curry in a bowl and the coconut rice wrapped in a banana leaf. She enjoyed it a lot.

I had the Pad Thai with chicken. It was a large portion full of nicely flavored chicken. The noodles were very tasty and the sauce was nicely balanced. Good flavors and an ok spice level. There were a few vegetables in the Pad Thai, it could have used a few more but that's a small complaint.

We really enjoyed our meal and would go back again.
