Chow recs needed for trip to Charleston, Savannah, and Hilton Head

I was in Charleston and HHI last year. Favorite restaurants were SNOB and Dye's (HHI).

You can see my reviews of the area here (pages 2-4):

Eating in Irving

I like The Ranch which is off Macarthur & 114. They use local ingredients and they have a bit of everything on the menu. I haven't had anything bad there. The Kobe tacos are good, as is the CFS, the chicken and waffles, the steak salad, the meatloaf and the burgers. The only thing that was just average was the fried catfish. Several of my coworkers liked the venison chili. I don't think they're open all weekend, so you might check that before heading over there.

I also like Bangkok Orchid Thai restaurant in the Target center at Beltline and 183. Good tom yum and tom kha. The beef with garlic was tasty, as was the panang. Tasty green (?) sticky rice with outstanding coconut ice cream.

Eating in Irving

I've had the bulgogi hogie at LA burger. A little sweet, a little spicy and a fresh bun- what more can you want? I'll be back to check out the burger with fried kimchee.

Mansfield recs?

You might try Simply Burgers (1219 E Debbie Ln Ste 117).
I haven't eaten at the Mansfield location, but I have eaten at a few other locations and the burgers and fries (regular & sweet potato) are better than average. My favorite is the Mushroom Swiss Burger.

I can't eat much Italian, but my family thinks highly of Bella Vita - 2000 Highway 157 N

You might check yelp.com to see what the masses think.

Charleston - Savannah- Recs for Restaurants on the Water

We'll be in Charleston and Hilton Head for a week in May and would like recommendations for good restaurants on the water. I'm willing to drive 50 miles north of Charleston to 50 miles south of Savannah.

Where's your favorite fried seafood served in the Dallas area.

My favorite fried catfish is at Mama's Daughter's Diner. It's cornmeal breaded. It's best if you eat it fresh out of the fryer, so don't get it to go. They used to have catfish as lunch special on Friday's, but you don't want to get it then because it's pre-fried.

Favorite fried shrimp is at Pappadeaux's, though it seems they've been greasy the last several times ordered. I also like their tartar & cocktail sauces, but I don't think the shrimp needs them to taste good.

I haven't eaten at any of the places mentioned in this thread except Pappadeaux's.

Who serves PIE in the metro..... real pie, good pie??

I'm not a huge pie fan and don't get them often, but I do like the pies at Luby's cafeteria. I also like the apple pie filling at Whole Foods - I'm a fan of cinnamon- the crust isn't flaky though.

I miss Tippin's too. Too bad there isn't a Marie Callendar's in the area- I thought they had great berry pies.
