3 Days in Atlanta

Good point Jaymes. I was there last month for several meals. The housemade pastrami was the best I ever had (from NYC to Miami and points in between)...thick slices, lightly smoked and ever so tender. From the crisped slices they serve at breakfast to the ones they serve on their hamburger at dinner to the ones they pile high on their pastrami sandwich at lunch...I suggest this for all pastrami lovers.

When we were there for dinner they served a smoked duck breast..rare..it was excellent..

The bakery....the cheese Danish are very good...and the chocolate babka is excellent...YMMV..

Additional recommendations...The General Muir..serving breakfast, lunch and dinner..with an on site bakery...seriously good food...located in Decatur, basically on the Emory U. campus, not too far from Buckhead...definitely worth the trip..

Charleston Trip Report - R Kitchen, Husk, FIG, Artisan Meat Share, The Ordinary, Butcher & Bee, Xiao Bao Biscuit, Two Boroughs Larder, Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit, Brown’s Court

Yes..a most excellent report. The last time I was at Husk, for lunch, I skipped the fried chicken and went straight for the fried chicken skins..all the goodness while leaving room for other things. Highly recommended for small eaters.

Dishes to go with pasta (not a side!)

for the simplest and easiest solution i like LinnyN's suggestion...there are a couple ways to go...you can cook the sausages separately in a sauté pan..or bring your sauce to a simmer and then put the sausages in the sauce to cook until done..30 minutes..an hour..the timing of this method is not critical...and it gives the extra benefit of flavoring the sauce with the sausage..it's a very traditional Italian preperation..

Your "fav" Charleston area BarBQ?

Indeed it is V&P, not mustard..

I bought canned collard greens! Umm... Now what?

I prefer them to black eyed peas..they have a milder taste and smoother texture compared to black eyed peas..at least to me anyway.

Sweet potatoes with a pat of butter and a tiny sprinkling of salt (to bring out the sweetness) and some cornbread for sure. If you can find some pink eyed peas those would be good too.

Not sure about the liquid from the can..it might be very tasty. I would suggest you pour off the liquid into a pot, warm it just a bit and taste it. If it's good to you then use it.

I did offer a suggestion.

Question...What do you Think...

I'm not sssuming anything..the person has admitted to having never spent any time there.

And I did make a post suggesting Noah's for pizza which is close to the OP's route and open on Sunday.

Thank you..yes

Apparently i'm not up on the protocol...

Although i did not direct my comment to anyone in particular...was a general question directed at the group..

Question...What do you Think...

Can people that have never spent any time in a particular city have the knowledge to properly judge that city and offer a knowledgable opinion on the food scene in that locale..?

I ask only because I have been "moderated" into oblivion when I question someone's opinion regarding a city in which they admittedly have no first hand experience...

Would you trust such an opinion?

Interested to hear all opinions...

Two Charleston-area questions

fwiw..totally agree with you re Sweatman's..for me it's a total waste of time and effort..

as for Scott's..it's an "experience".. i suggest everyone go at least once..kinda like Cooper's store, which is on the other end of the spectrum..

Two Charleston-area questions

Hmm..Scott's or McCabe's..sorta depends.. McCabe's has a small buffet and dining room..Scott's is take-out only and about all they sell is meat and sliced bread..if your coming down I-95 my rec is to hit McCabe's and sample the buffet then drive over to Hemingway and pick up a pound (or 2) to snack on later..hint: the pork rinds at Scott's are very good so pick up a baggie (or 2) and get a loaf of bread.. If I recall both places are cash only (local checks accepted at McCabe's)...I know that didn't answer your question but that's the way I'd do it...

Dinner Time in The Low Country?

My guess is the urbanization of the population has largely put an end to the tradition.

Looking for Myrtle Beach dining with ocean view

Not that easy to find a restaurant with a decent sunset view in the Myrtle Beach area.

The Gulfstream Cafe in Garden City may be your best choice. Be sure to sit upstairs..

Terra..upscale..valet parking..if you go ask for Donna to serve you..laid back..smart..totally knowledgable regarding the menu.. http://www.terrasc.com

BBQ..J.D Hite's..in West Columbia..cash..fri. and sat. only...get the rib cut..it may be the only thing you find in Columbia that blows you away..make sure you specify "no loin" when you order..take out only..go early..or order ahead by phone... http://www.hitesbbq.com

Mai Thai..also in West Columbia..run by some very nice Thai folks.. very popular..i like the stuffed chicken wings..the tom yum soup..and the Mai Thai duck..but thats just me..it's all good.. http://maithais.com

Noah's Antica Pizzeria..on the other side of town from where you are..hard to find..set back off the road in a nondescript group of shops..could be worth the trouble though..i like his Pizza Noah, pancetta and blueberries..woaa, it's killer..

Ahh, you're in luck then. Oddly enough I've never tasted their hash. Hash is one of those things that can be hit or miss...too much liver will kill it for me for example. The old saying about hash is it's got everything in it but the squeal. The best hash I ever had was at D&H in Manning..but that was some time in the previous century. I only go to McCabe's now when I'm over that way. Maurice's, the original location on Charleston Highway fairly close to Hite's has some passable hash but many people shy away from doing business there due to his extremely reactionary politics..enter there at your own risk. And I only mention the place since the subject of hash came up...otherwise it's a total skip. Maybe you'll try some Hite's hash and let us know. :)

And seriously, if you plan to have some rib cut call early and reserve some.
